giovani.....che pomiciate sincere che mon do d'amore per noi allora che NON SIAMO STATI CAPACI DI DARVI 2LEVANNO QUELLA MONNEZZA DA LA MENTE....CHE STRONZI"
@MrCorndogEater i didn't mean to be rude as you can see by what i said at the end of my comment. I am only implying that i liked the original version, if you did not notice they changed the song a bit:P oh and everyone has a opinion and that was mine and you clearly have your own opinion, good for you. ;)
MONROE POWELL.... BRILLIANT... AND EXQUISITELY TALENTED BY GOD.... I was blessed to have Monroe, or Roe, as we called him, in our Men's Bible Class for 3 years... He loves the Lord and can still sing as beautifully as ever... He has the kindest heart and gentlest soul.... and he was blessed with a most beautiful lady to become his wife in the recent years. God bless you, Roe!
this is a beautiful version of this song! i am 63 and got to hear all of the platter's songs when they first came out-and i agree that they were the best-just soso beautiful!!!! thanks so much for postjing this!!!!
monroer is a friend of mine from 1991 yto now he loved gunmmybears he calledme his gummybear friend i get him2 bags of gummybears wheni saw him that ismonroe singing
theres been 3 lead singers tony williams sonny turner and monroe powell i mwet monroe inmichigan in 1991 in frankenmuth he wasa nice guy ithen saw him invegas an dhe introudced measa friedn frioom michigan hes a good singer
hasta la fecha se tienen contemplados mas de 125 versiones diferentes de The Platters,a partir de sus integrantes originales...estos quien sabe cuales seran, pero pues bueno, traen la escuela romantica de the 50's
The Platters featuring Monroe Powell - type this in, watch the vid and tell me if you can tell the difference between him and how it would sound if Kermitt The Frog sang the Platters. He is bloody awful
No. He is not the "Great Pretender". He should be labelled the "Worst Pretender" of all the Platters franchises.
I think the Entertainment Company owning the trademark "the Platters" should learn something from "McDonanld's Restaurants" to ensure uniform quality across all the Platters groups.
TONY WILLIAMS IS SPINNING IN HIS GRAVE SAYING WHO THE HELL ARE THESE MORONS , TO TRY AND PASS THEMSELVES OFF AS THE PLATTERS IS BULLSHIT. THEY SHOULD BE CALLED THE FLATTERS, YOU GUYS TOTALLY FUCKED UP THIS SONG, AND FUCK YOU BUCK RAM THERE IS ONLY ONE TRUE LEAD SINGER AND THATS TONY WILLIAMS PERIOD.ITS TRYING TO REPLACE JOHN LENNON WITH YOKO ONO
By far, the WORST version I've ever heard. Each singer should be judged on his or her own merit, not compared to the original lead singer. As such, this was an awful rendition of a great song.
@DeffLeopard - you must not have heard some guy named Bazz Bankster or something like that. Man he is so awful every rooster in the universe must camp out at his door. He gives new meaning to AWFUL!!!
Considering that this guy, Monroe Powell, was chosen by Buck Ram in 1970 to be lead singer of the group and filled that position for 28 years, it kind of doesn't matter any more whether someone likes him or not. They were all employees of The Five Platters - including Tony.
This is not the Platters. It's just another "tribute" group. If they billed themselves like that instead of as the "Platters"-no harm,no foul. Doing it this way they are stealing from Herb Reed and Sonny Turner-the only two people with legitimate legal claims to use the name.
Tony was the voice Buck Ram chose to build the group around. It is Buck's music that people come to hear. Tony had an unforgettable voice, and it blended perfectly with Buck's style of song writing. Buck chose Powell because of his highly trained, powerful voice. Oiwell was lead singer for 25years and could deliver the lyrics in such a way as to remind the fans of the original version that Buck wrote, arranged and produced. But there was only one Tony. Jean Bennett, Publicist since 1954
Tony is spinning in his grave. The problem is not the performance because it is not terrible. The issue is that it is called The Platters. These are not The Platters. And the guy yawning at the end sums up the rest of what I want to say.
I wish I could, but I guess its like a baseball team. It is still the Yankees although the originals are long gone. In music though it seems different. You change the lead and sometimes it is acceptable. But when they are all different and are not even siinging the song as it was intended, then it is NOT The Platters. A whole year went by and I still get a response.
@AlainPY A little history of this group which was put together by Buck Ram who created The Original Platters and wrote many of their hits. I worked with Monroe back in the 70s and he had one of the best voices I have ever heard. Monroe also was the lead singer for the Platters longer then anyone else in the history of the Group. Buck Ram was there many nights as he owned the name "The Platters"
Yes..he has a nice tenor voice. But..he sure is no Tony Williams. They call him "legendary?" Why? He didn't sing on any of the original hits that opened the way for Black groups. He never had a hit of his own. He's good..yes..but..man..they should not be calling themselves "The Platters"...not one original Platter is there. Should I get five people and call my group "The Platters?" Absurd.
Oh my Gosh! Anyone that says anything negative about this man "MONROE POWELL" sure doesn't know much about the Platters. Buck Ram is surely rolling over in his grave, because he thought the world of Monroe. Monroe Powell is an outstanding entertainer that has never missed a day of work and he has been with them since 1970.If you haven't seen him perform live then you have NO clue about him. MONROE POWELL is the Platters!
@dinosally Listen to this guy sing the Platters songs and then compare it with Tony Williams. Oh sorry, you wont be able to because there is no comparison, this guy is awful!!! Tony Williams is the true lead of The Platters not this warbling idiot
@dinosally i agree sally hes also a sweet nman i met moonroe inmichigan in1991 and he andi arfriends we evenhada drinktogether ibvegas soi do agreesdally
