  • Very nice brotha

  • Very nice interpretation! I love the originality while remaining true to the original.

  • yeah what I like everyone plays his own way...this version with feeling..some versions on the net very well but focus on technique. Original is very fragile..I play it on my Dobro..beautiful song..

  • thanks Bro.

  • original is open G?

  • @mebloke69 No, open E.

  • Good job dude...Very well done.

  • ...you played with respect to the idea...NICE JOB!!!

Duane & Dickey never played it the same twice!!!!!

  • You´re a nice guitarist , but I humbley think it does not sound quite the same as the original. You will get it in a couple of hours or weeks . I think you know , just try it again....good luck.....

  • you´re a nice player but , I humbly it does not sound quite the same as the original one . it will take a couple of hours or weeks reach the right one, I m sure as you are an excellent player

  • amazing !! !!

  • Bravo!

  • you play it well.........~,~

  • Sooo sweet to my ears......thank you.

  • This was nice, Real nice.

  • The song was written in open E tuning which is E B E G# B E(low to high) but it is bad for the neck and strings to tune a string higher than standard so it is better to play it in Sebastopol (D A D F# A D low to high). If you want to sound just like the recording without damaging your strings tune to Sebastopol and capo the 3rd fret.

  • Thanks! I was wondering - there are some weird versions online - this is one where I finally learned why some players were way open and didn't even sound as good as others who seemed to be playing in standard tuning. I respectfully agree that there is an inverse proportion to Open Tunings and quality of performance, with all due respect to the attempted way out of time and even out of tune yet sentimental performance above.

  • Beautifully played; I'm sure Duane is looking down on you and smiling...

  • Very well done! Nice playing keep it up.:)

I play this one too. It's always been one of my favorites.

  • D (Sebastopol or Sevastopol) tuning... John Fahey used it wonderfully. 4 strings end up tuned down so tension would not be a factor. Going down further to open C, a Fahey and Kottke staple, drops 3 strings and raises one (b to c).

It is indeed a great tune, and many of these versions are so impressive.

  • I wouldn't attempt this song if you're that much of a "noob". But for educational purposes, wind the tuner that is on the head of your guitar up so that it makes the note that would ring if you fretted the first fret. I don't suggest playing in open E if you don't have your guitar set up for it because you could break your guitar from the amount of tension, tuning your guitar to D Standard, then playing open D

  • yeah, but thanks for the help dude, I think I've gotten the hang of it now.

  • best advice I've seen. The G string is the one that always breaks - and I'm a drummer and a pianist who knows better than to push the G higher. So said, to me, the guitar is 400x more difficult to play than either of my percussive instrs, so on my guitars I have used pitifully embarrassing tunings - hltd by the Low C GGDGAD. Even Kenny G winces at some of the over-lush-itude coning from that (low ornkey or something?). You can play 3 chords that are amazing. That one's too Irish for Ireland.

  • can you tell me how to tune the G string to G#, I'm having trouble with that...

  • LtWilliams, two ways to do this. Tune whole guitar to D-A-D-F#-A-D then clip a capo on fret#2. Or take a standard guitar tuning with very light strings and tune string 3 up 1/2 step, and string 4 and 5 one whole step. Then as you strum the guitar with no frethand you make an E chord.

  • thats what i mean though, i don't know how tune the 3rd string a half step up. I know, i'm a noob, but what exactly do you do to tune the 3rd string up a half step?

  • Very nice, relaxed and musically played version. You did really nice!! Most excellent. There's no such thing as a wrong KEY. Or a wrong version. Nice pace!

  • nice job man very good

  • wrong key but still rad

  • Oh, you mean there's a wrong key? I think this is one of the most naturally played and relaxed versions yet. Nice JOB!!!

  • But it's been covered by different people, genius.

  • outstanding

  • There're so many cool YouTube Little Martha videos; I just come and listen to them all; it's such a beautiful composition and to listen to each musician's version is just ... well... really nice.

  • Who could possibly argue with this "version"?

  • nice job, dude!

  • OMG....Most excellent!!

  • Very nice! What tuning are you in?

  • Thx, the tuning is Open D DADF#AD...

  • ah - is the capo making the strings too tight to use or is the whole "look" of a capo wrong to you?
