Oh Ida - you are such a gem! I LOVE Henry Miller....so we share that as well as our Nobby. At 19 I went to Paris, following in his footsteps and even living at Shakespeare and Company in order to snuggle a little closer to his spirit - not to mention Anais Nin's. Many many memories. I only wish we lived closer and could share a cup of coffee.
And btw, THANK YOU for the scans you sent. I definitely owe you a note sometime soon.
This is a treat, Ida. I like the selection of excerpts you chose, and how you personalize the presentation, with your introduction. Very nice editing. Another fav
I have written Henry Millar and "Tropic of Cancer" in my notebook and have underlined it for further research. I will learn something new and you are still changing the world...just through being.
Thanks for sharing your love of Henry with us. Big Sur is always worth a visit, yes, and The Henry Miller Memorial Library still awaits the book-hungry traveler. I love going there. Thanks again for the sub and I'm glad to have subscribed to you. Your videos are very interesting! Take care and best wishes from a fellow book lover.
Thank you Ida for this video. I had the chance to read some of H Miller's books, also I saw the movie "Henry & June" if I'm not wrong, with Anais there...BTW I'm a tropic here :-) summertime and pretty warm. Cheers from Chile, Pati
Thank you Pati. Good to hear from you. YT puts one in touch with people from all over the world----a precious, wonderful world. Enjoy your summer. We have rain in Oregon, not so cold here as in the east.
This was just brilliant. Old Henry was my hero growing up and I devoured any book of his I could find. I even went on a pilgrimage to Paris to find those places where he and Anais would hang out or lived. How wonderful that you almost had an opportunity.... but just passing by his mail box somehow puts you in his sphere. Thanks so much for making this and for reminding me of him. Loved this
Esealen was/is great. Generally I was there for Alan Watts. I think it has changed from what it was. Used to be there were bath tubs with hot spring water where one could soak and look out at the Pacific.
wonderful peter van dyke fish, our cackling, mustachioed, barrel chested eleventh grade english teacher, wearing an ice cream suit & fedora, stood on top of the big teacher's desk at the front of the classroom & gave impassioned readings of henry miller's works - from the air conditioned nightmare, remember to remember, tropic of capricorn and others.
he encouraged me, a withdrawn, obsessive journal-keeping teen to read the diary of anais nin. so good to know someone who loves great writers
