1-They just get pissed at eachother and drop the gloves

2- Young guy trying to show his value to the team

3- Possibly to put a player who is out of line back in his place

4 there is other reasons as well, but the thing to remember is that, in hockey you can fight a guy, and then go grab a drink with him after the game, most of the time no grudge is held, and things are left on the ice.
