I can confirm the comments about the character and humanity of Capt Langsdorff.

My Uncle, Capt Paddy Dove was one of the captured British merchant navy officers who attended his funeral. There was a raporte and mutual respect which is depicted in the film " Battle of the River Plate" by the gift of the cap band from a fallen German sailor to my uncle.

Capt Langsdorff was most certainly NOT a Nazi

Above everything. Captain Langsdorf was a seaman, never a nazi. He was admired and respected by the Royal Navy. It is worth noting that several of the British merchant captains who were captured by the Graf Spee, chose to attend his funeral. It is also worth noying the lack of nazi salutes among all the navy personel at the funeral

Hans Langsdorff commited suicide. He lay upon the Graf Spee`s Battle Flag and shot himself. In dong so, symbolically going down with his ship. The Graf Spee was "found" about 5 years ago. Her huge bronze swastika and eagle emblem was salvaged in tact.

Sin embargo me gustaria saber donde fue este entierro. Yo asumo que haya sido en la Argentina, pues para el acorazado Graf Spee, y sus militares, la guerra terminó en el mar del Plata.

@karatecba Algunos de los tripulantes, estuvieron en mi pueblo Sierra de la Ventana, Club Hotel y unos pocos se quedaron en la "comarca". Se destacaban mucho en sus oficios, cualquiera fuere aunque por ser jóvenes se les "notaba la guerra" en sus rostros.Dónde estuvo tu abuelo? Si me lo quieres decir!

hi skoblinl, thanks for this! it's amazing i never saw the funeral, i know that the captain die in my city, this funeral was in buenos aires too? in that age argentina had simpaty for nationalsocialism (everybody know it).langsdorff was exiled in the argentinian navy building before he die, but does this funeral made with an argentinian naval parade and ceremony include? great! this is new for me, i think you must come here to give a tribute in the cementery in buenos aires.
