Mariah was AMAZING! I love her, but it's crazy how her performances are so much more powerful and comfortable THEN than now after 20 years in the game. Now she seems so awkward and uncomfortable when she sings...and her voice is no where near that level anymore. I do understand the quality of the voice does deteriorate as the years go though. Point blank, she did amazing things in her career &she will always have my respect for that. She still has more in her, not as good, but better than most!

this is the best peformance of this song. no wait, apollo was good too. 1990. a time when people used to sing. there were a handful of acts that couldnt sing but for the most part, you heard vocals. i wish i could go back to this year. it was good musically. new jack swing was at its peak. The fact is Mariah much like all if not MOST artist have gotten themselves caught in the snare of comforming to whatever seems to be Hollywoods next best idea or "trend." It's unfortunate for her because she was so talented and had great material. But who you associate with is who you will be shaped and molded by, she did NOT have the best choices. Everyone goes on & on about MC changing (whether its her voice, age, style, genre, etc).But the fact is that musicians do better when they EVOLVE with time. I dont care for hip hop/rap. R&B I do like. Artists that stay the same, may get boring. There are many talented singers out there. ANd new ones givin it a shot. COmpetition is fierce. SO I think its smart for her to stay modern and do new styles. Maybe a blend of both so that she can appeal to diff kinds of listeners. SO far its working.

I'm pretty sure America the Beautiful was her debut, the she sang Vision of Love on Arsenio. She did it twice on his show though, this is the second appearance I think. The first she wore a black dress then she was brought back when the song became a hit. I think anyway :)
