so how much work is the 3400 engine swap im debating between building the 3.1 and adding a turbo or a 3.8 super charged swap will the 3.1 tranny bolt up to the 3.4

The trans bolts up just fine. the 3400 swap is much easier than the 3.8

Just the front mount and a whole bunch of tuning were the hard parts. There are a lot of little things too, but this swap has been done a few hundred times now, so it isnt that hard of a swap anymore.

That's not all that fast. My Dad had a 89 Z24 with a 2.8 with a full ECU upgrade and a turbo muffler. it ran about a 13 1/4 mile.

You must be mistaken, there is no way it ran that fast. The 1989's would run high 15's or low 16's with a 5-speed and mid 16's with an automatic transmissions. These cars take extensive work to go that quick without nitrous or forced induction. There are only a handful of NA 60 degree V6's that are in the 13's and still naturally aspirated. So a 13 with a muffler and a chip is impossible unless you cut about 1500 pounds off of the curb weight of the car.

Hell, a 2.8 strapped to a go-cart would have a hard time breaking into the 13's. I'm sure your dad never ran the car, never got a "full ECU upgrade" and oh yah.. the stock Z24 muffler is a "turbo muffler".

It takes about 220WHP to break into the 13's in a 2nd gen Jbody, 2.8's are around 95-100 WHP..

My friend has a black one thats 5 speed with the 3.1 He got sick of working on it and bought a 93 4 door pos cavy. Atleast his Z runs lol. Can probly buy it for 200. But the body work, and part replacement would be costly.
