We hear all the time about how safe Volvos are but not so much Mercedes Benz, Mercedes Benz Invented the Airbag, passenger Airbag, ABS (Anti-lock brake System), seat belt pre-tensioners and a lot more safety inventions, not to mention the PRE-SAFE system that prepares the car for a potential accident. I don't think that Mercedes Benz gets the recognition of safety that volvo gets, but really they should. Other inventions; Lane Tracking Assist, PRE-SAFE brake system, Night vision.

Every auto manufacturer should perform safety tests like this before they sell to the general public, make sure their cars are safe.

Let's not forget Volvo.... Maybe in the present a E class is as safe as a Volvo,,but please,have a look at the NCAP crash test from 2000 ... Have a look at the Mercedes E class from 2000 and the much cheaper Volvo S40 from 2000 . The S40 performs much better than the Merc.

@blackhawk192 Yes, we all know that Volvos are undoubtedly safe, But Mercedes-Benz has its own culture and history in which research in passenger safety & technology is highly prioritized. Perfect quality in every level, not just safety.
