Is that the shock that came with the Mic? Is it the spider or is it a different brand? I know the spider is S3 is $199 which is outrageous in my opinion. But is it the only one that works or would a different brand work as well?
Sounds good but I wish any 'mic sample' video would always have a common SM57 or the like for comparison. Your recording is very full and well mastered.
@liltreitsago The Blue Yeti and the Snowball are USB mics so they do plug into your computer. The more expensive ones like the Spark and the Blue Bird are xlr inputs. They can be converted with Blue's Blue Icicle
Good video and song. I use to have a Bluebird into a Digidesign 003 and it sounded great. I just ordered a mbox mini package. I'm going to upgrade the mic later. Thinking about the spark, or the rode nt1 something in that price range.
Dude stop using Pro Tools and get Cubase/Nuendo if you really want to get into the recording industry, I can tell you from experience that n00bs coming in from a Pro Tools background are frowned upon a LOT.
@macgeek1972 As much as i go for use what your personal preference is, saying that Pro-Tools is frowned upon is quite a huge lie. I'm not saying its the best, but it is certainly not the worst and has been used in industry standard situations for years. In my opinion Pro-Tools is better than Cubase, Nuendo i have no idea as i've never used it (Though i shall go look at it). Maybe your thinking of Pro-Tools hardware, in which yes, its all pretty crude, but blacklionaudio make it better :)
@macgeek1972 Actually your wrong, Protools is used in 99% of all high end studios. I know this cause it's what I do for a living everyday for the past 20 years. But I dislike Avid the company , I will say that.
@Audiowithalex Based on the principle of how it works, it needs voltage. In a condenser mic, a thin foil is one conductor of a capacitor, and the other is fixed. The moving of the air moves the moving conductor, and it makes the capacity change in the circuit, therefore there is a change in voltage, and therefore a signal. A capacitor does not work without voltage generated by phantom power or a battery. But I've just realized that you might mean the battery-powered microphones :)
@BokorugroRR Yes, that is how a condenser microphone works, but You're forgetting about Electret condenser microphones. These have a permanently charged back-plate eliminating the need for battery or any kind of voltage. You've probably never heard of this type because its most commonly found in Lav mics. learn something new every day ;)
@shaunalee2238 nah it a xlr mic & you will need to buy like a audio interface or go cheap with the blue icicle its only like $50 just plug the mic to it and it hooks up to the computer and your ready to go but if you want a usb mic get the blue yeti
I just got a shure sm57 and i am looking at the blue spark mic. Im hopeing its the perfect choice instead of a regular large diaphram condenser and i was wondering how it does on vocals, acoustic guitar, drum overhead, and as a second mic to my sm57 to mic a guitar amp I know blue does alot of good mics and im hopeing this can be my main vocal and acoustic condenser
It's hard to find a groovy little company like Blue anymore. It's one of the few respectable mainstream music companies left. Great products for great prices, simple as that.
@lilpja It could be the pre amp you are running it through....or you dont have a full 48v setup which is making you have to blast the amp to get it loud enough.
I have a Martin HD-28 which as you know is a Bass heavy acoustic. I want a good mic to record it and also record my electric guitar 2x12 cab with. I just saw this mic. Some others I have been looking at are the AT-4040, the Cascade Fathead Ribbon, This Mic and the one above it that is Blue. What are your thoughts?
hi i have a really important question: when i start recording with my blue baby bottle, i can only hear my voice at one side of my beats headphones !!! please help =\ i use garageband =\
hey, I just bought this mic, and I have a little problem with it. It's really quiet when i try to record with it (Through an Mbox 2 mini into Protools). I have the input just about all the way up and its still really quiet. I also made sure that phantom power is on.. Does anybody know how to fix this?? Thanks...
bro you have the exact same setup up that im currently trying to get!! blue spark with mbox 3!! dope!! i just have one question. do you have any acoustic treatment or sound proofing in the room that you record in or is it pretty bare? because the room i record in is definitely not ideal for recording. lol does the blue spark make the recordings sound pretty warm and full right off the bat??
So I just decided to check out some random microphones, because I'm addicted to buying microphones lol.. but I have to say. Your song is amazing! Its really refreshing to hear someone make such a phenomenal song. Vocals, guitar, all sound great.. you recorded them quite nicely as well. Bravo!
@843SwagTeam your supose to connect it to an m audio interface/fast track to give it power, then the fastrack goes in to the comp via usb, and the interface needs phantom power too if you wanna make the mic work, thats why its called a condenser mic
Hey Jonathan - I have this microphone and I'm have a really hard time making my Taylor GA4 not boom the heck out of it. I'm pointed at the 11th fret or so, and the only way I can prevent a sonic boom of mud around 200 Hz is to wheel back from the mic, which makes the guitar then sound rather thing. going to order this mic tomorrow the song sounds great really sold me on the mic only suggestion is maybe some deessing unless its just me sounds like it could use a bit
What model Martin guitar was that? I love the bluebird and most of my Martins have a better sound in the bluebird I have than what I heard, but I need to know what model you're using to be sure of the difference.
hello jonathan =) i like your music , but in purevolume the sound is really better.. in youtube this song lost a litle bit of its dynamics right ? listen, i'm a musician too, and i'm thinking about to buy this beautifull mic..so tell , me, is this a good mic? what set up do you use in your acustic recordings?
@Soaresound Make sure you watch / listen on the HD version via youtube? Whatever process YT puts audio through on here isn't too great. You're going to lose some detail.
I'm using the mic on all of my stuff now. Go buy it! :D
I am actually picking up an API lunchbox here next week. So my signal chain will be. Blue Spark > API 55A > Mbox. Other than than that it's all about the room and the guitar. Every Guitar is different as well as every player. Picks will drastically change the sound too.
