  • what is the name of that app sitting right in between system pref and applications?

  • @sulavdarnal I think that you are talking about Screenflow. It's the software I use to record the videos.

  • Can I Use My Laptop For It 2 Set It Up

  • Ive been using Garageband for a long while and think it about time I upgraded to Logic express. Have bought a few of the Jam Packs but not sure where the original discs are and am worried about not being able to use them again. Does Logic express automatically locate all the sounds I have on Garageband or will I have to re-load the Jam Packs again?

  • @eztd23 - i've just upgraded to logic express from garageband, and i have all the jam packs - installing express was so easy, and all the jam packs appeared without me having to do anything, including all the instruments i've edited and saved - logic just found them all and plonked them straight into the library for me. simples.

  • jonathan, thanx...but help.....aim new 2 this..how do i turn the mac mike off!!!...aim still on part 1 hahhhahhaa

  • for a home studio should i get express or 9

  • @RizzoAstronama I would recommend getting Express 9 for a home studio.

  • can someone help me out, whats the difference between logic pro and logic express? thanks a bunch!

  • @NozickaRhymes logic express is the lite version of logic pro, it has most of the same features but if you would like to do the most with your music it would have to be with logic pro

  • Hi Great video!

I was wondering what the difference is between logic Express and Logic Pro?

  • @navboi12 i think, and im open for correction that logic express is a striped down version of the logic pro software, ie less features and less strong but better value for money (much like cubase and cubase LE)

  • @Sorstudios exactly my question too

Logic express is €200 and logic pro €500

    Whats the difference?

  • @musicbeats4life I understand the pice. But working parts of the software is what i'm asking

  • @sorstudios yeah thats what im asking too, you misunderstood me

  • Anyone know the difference between express and pro?

  • Do you have to have a mic to record your guitar on here?

  • How Ironic, This Video Is About Audio Production, But Yet You Can Barely Hear it.

  • hi Jonathan,

How are you doing? want to ask you something, can Logic express 9 record vocals and guitar live?

  • what's the name of the recording system

    i mean the screen/voice recording

  • How do you go about connecting audio microphones from your guitars to the computer? USB/MIDI?

  • Hi Johnathan thank you so much for your tutorials they are a huge help. I was wondering if it would be possible for you to create a tutorial on how to create a "bass drop" in logic express. Once again thanks so much for your videos

  • i cant get any play back audio or any audio for that matter. how do i get it to play back or hear it while im playing/ while choosing amps/ pedals and making tones.

  • whats the difference between logic express 9, and logic pro 9?

  • @SuperRapedungeon Logic Pro goes a lot farther, has more sounds i think. other than that they are the same. i'm getting express and then i'll upgrade to pro eventualy

  • how do u get the sound of the guitar up on logic so u can hear it ?

  • Comment removed

  • I am running with a Tascam US-122L interface and I cannot figure out how to hear the track through my headphones which are hooked up to it. I've gone to my preferences and switched to have the output come through the interface but still nothing. I have even gone so far as to buy new headphones. Please help. When I record my voice I want to be able to hear the band behind it!

  • can i plug my guitar into some kind of amp that connects to logic express 9?

  • Hi Jonathan, this has been a great help and I must thank you for your help

One thing, I have done a few mixes dragging in old Garageband mixes into Logic

When I save a mix to my desktop as an mp3, if I click on it to play it comes up in iTunes and plays the wrong mix

This seems very strange as I turned of the busses that were adding reverbs, did a dry mix, sent it to my pal, they got the correct mix but when I play it I get an older mix

    All the best

    Martin

  • Thank you so much!

  • You are The Man, Jonathan. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My Logic Express and interface arrive next week. I've come a long way from my Teac 3340s!

  • I don't understand. I use a zoom r16 when i record my guitar(As an external midi) but i cant get a sound out of it in logic express 9. In garageband it works though. In the library it shows that i have the zoom r16 recognized: Zoom R16_R24. and then a lot of channels: Channel 1, Channel 2, Channel 3, Channel 4, and so on. And i have my guitar plugged in in channel 1, i do not understand why it doesn't work. Do you have any idea what could be the problem? Thanks for help =)

  • how much to upgrade from 8?

  • I JUST got LE9 today. All I want to do is to be able to import an mp3 or 4 instrumental file to practice vocals on. I need to be able to change the key right up front and don't know how to do it....can you help me out?

  • Dear Jonathan, i have to confess that i have only heard about Logic Pro 9 yesterday ! I own Pro Tools 8 which is connected with Native Guitar Rig 3 plus Addictive drums. I am fine with the sounds that can be created by such external software besides the comfort of Pro Tools 8. Now Logic Pro 9 comes along which i understand is a very mature version of Garage Band. However i am not sure how authentic the modified amp and stompboxes and the beats/drums are in comparision to my extisting setup ?

  • Wt's the differences between EXPRESS and PRO version?

  • Hey, i got this a couple of weeks ago and i'm in serious need of some help! when i create a mono track, no sound comes through, however, when i use a stereo track i get sound fine, but through one speaker. any ideas?

  • Thanks so much Jonathan for the help! I just got this today for Christmas and am excited to use it. How much experience do you have with music editing software and how long would you say it takes to become relatively familiar with it?

  • if i dont have logic .....at alll.... can i just buy the upgrade version

  • Whats is the difference between logic express and logic pro?

  • Yo!

how did u upload this pn u-tube? how do u get the tracker?

  • Hi

Do you know what the differences are between logic studio and logic express?

i've used studio before but express looks like it is pretty much the same and at a cheaper price? thanks.

  • Thanks Johnathan. A great service to noobs such as myself. Question for you... one of the tracks you use quite early is "Vocals" which I can't find. After much research, I've concluded that you have "Jam Packs" installed on your computer. Is this the reason you have "Vocals" (and perhaps many others), or is my installation of Logic Express 9 messed up?

  • @riandavis Hey great question! I did not have any Jam Packs installed on my computer, but I think I might be a little confused about what you are talking about. What exactly do you mean by "vocals"? Let me know so I can help you out. Thank you very much for the great comment, though! I am happy that they help you out!

    -Jonathan

  • @JonathanHowardGuitar... in the words of Ricky Ricardo, "lemme try to 'splain"... at 1:24 of this video you click on "Vocals" in the Library. In my Logic Express 9 (reinstalled yesterday in order to try to address the problem) there is no "Vocals" in the Library. If fact my choices are quite different than yours... mine are:

  • @JonathanHowardGuitar I have the same problem. What I believe @riandavis means is at 1:25 you select 'Vocals' from the Media Library. We don't have that option to click that.

  • @riandavis (continued)... "01 Logic Instruments, 02 Acoustic Pianos, 03 Bass, 04 Drums & Percussion, 05 Keyboards, 06 Synthesizers, 07 Pop Strings, 08 Pop Horns, 09 Guitars, 10 Choir, 11 Textures, GarageBand"

So, I'm not sure what the difference is... Have you customized your instruments significantly? I sure haven't... Thanks for considering this...

    Ian

  • I am confused about logic express. What are the differences between Express and Regular? Besides about 300 dollars.

  • i think i just found what i want for christmas.... this shit is sweet....

  • This might be the best way to reach you? Awesome lessons.....hope you find time to do more.

    Thank you.... Thumbs way up!

  • @xAddisonProductionsx I use a program called screenflow that gives you the option to put that red circle around the click after recording a video.

  • Can you tell me the reasons one would want Logic Pro vs. Logic Express? I'm a singer-songwriter working from home and just want to be able to make quality tracks for competition/publishing submissions and good home demos. I have been using garageband but need to upgrade; I want to learn to produce my own music (just the basics). I play acoustic guitar and keys and sing. Trying to decide between the two Logic programs. Thanks for your help and thanks for the tutorials!

  • @CloverDealman Hey man thanks a bunch for the comment and I am happy to hear that these are helping you out. About your question, though, the main difference between logic express and logic pro is that logic pro has quite a few more extra sounds that comes with it along with the ability to record live performances. The extra sounds I am talking about are just premade tracks and I don't think that they would help you out too much, but that's up to you. I hope that this helps out! Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the clips, they are really helpful. And your voice is very smoothing.

  • @divolino Thank you very much for your comment! I am very happy to hear that they have been helping you out!

  • how do you get this program ?

  • @youdoit456 You can purchase it in an apple store or online at their apple.com store.

  • @youdoit456 ....Pirating (;

  • thanks

  • Heyy hom much does this cost???

  • @CheackyLegend122

The full complete version is $500. However, logic express is only $200. And you can upgrade from express for only $200.

  • @CheackyLegend122 $200 for logic express.

  • @JonathanHowardGuitar however, if you go to the store its 100

  • He uses the word "very" 5 times a minute...this video is geared towards guitarists--keyboardists should look elsewhere since recording mono isn't useful.

  • Can logic express change chords in loops?

  • @eone546

Logic Pro can. Not sure about express.

  • tHANKS MAN, HELPS Alot

  • thank you so much for this its very helpful

  • whats the best dj program to buy and create my own beats etc...

  • @ManUnitedBoy7 depends on what style im gonna try this one someday

  • When you use varispeed to record something a comfortable tempo does it at all change the sound when you play it back faster?

  • Hey :) I'm thinking about making a "home-studio" just for fun. Just recording songs with the band for our own amusement, and so that others can hear a finished, studio result. So I was wondering if I would be able to buy an expencive mic. and record us playing. Or record the instruments seperately and mix them together. Is that possible with this software? Any response is much apriciated, and very nice videos by the way ;D

  • is this better than garageband?

  • @LTLfilms Yes it is much better than garage band. There are a lot more features and options to customize your music.

  • Hey Jono, How do you do buses/sends? Thanks very much

  • @djodonoghue I have a logic tutorial video that goes over how to do that. Just check it out. I believe that it is part 7.

  • Well, i have heard you can record guitar with this program, do i need something extra for the guitar? Like an mixer or something or do i record guitar through the microphone? or can i plug the guitar right in to the pc? sorry for my exploration, great tutorial!:)

  • @linki33 Great question! In order to record the guitar you must have an interface. I discuss that stuff in part 3. That is how you record electric guitar, although you could use the computer mic to record as well if desired.

  • i just got a macbook now, i got a question: did i understand it right, there is just logic 9 express and logic 9 studio??? express is the cheaper version with lesser sounds and studio is the very expensive version with more sounds???

    thanks for answer :)

  • @MTwistSounds Yes you have it right. Logic Express 9 has all of the same features besides for a couple. It is lacking some of the sounds, which I have never really used to begin with. And the ability to record live shows, which I also don't really need at the moment. You can always go back and buy the upgrade from express to studio and it would be the same cost.

  • dang. all the good tutorials have low volume. my volume is at 100% and i can still barely hear it. doesnt iMovie have pre-gain? (it is useful in iTunes)

  • @musicd00d2010 Yes it does have a pre-gain and I am sorry about the low volume. All of the other parts to these tutorials are fine on the volume.

  • pleas look at my all new music vids from a teen singer

  • hi. im new to mac, but im torn between logic express or logic studio. but also i was going to ask, on the apogee duet interface, it says it works with garageband and logic pro. is this considered logic pro? like i said im new to mac and am getting it specifically for the recording simplicity so sorry if my questions are basic, im just not familiar with any of the mac hardware, but thanks so much and thanks for the video

  • @DrewGoVols Yes, logic pro and logic express are the exact same program. Logic pro just has a few other features. I would definitely start with logic express unless you are planning on recording live shows or need a bunch of pre-recorded tracks to create your songs.

  • hi, im soon going to be purchasing my first mac. but am torn between logic express 9 and logic studio. and also the apogee duet states that it works with either garage band and logic pro. so would this mean it would work with this. sorry im new to the whole mac programming. thanks for the help and the video!

  • what do i need to have my bass guitar running threw logic 9? please help

  • @commercialkid all you would need is an audio interface. I give you an example of one in part 3 where I show mine.

  • Can you mix songs and mash songs and change pitch on this program? Also... are midi controller and DJ Turntable USB plug ins compatible with this program

  • @MJR6800 yeah man you can actually do all of that with garage band

  • @MJR6800 All of these things that you asked are available and compatible with Logic.

  • does this logic express 9 works on techno, electronica, indie stuff like that? right now, im thinking about to buy it with my apple education discount. give me some feedback, please. thanks

  • @joshnut0 Logic 9 works on all genres very effectively! It is a great program to use for anything you are looking to create.

  • @JonathanHowardGuitar thank you very much! it helped me to decide better =)

  • @JonathanHowardGuitar ok what do you need to record your vocals and everything like what type of imputs, cords what not

  • hey check out my logic songs i will be uploading more soon thanks

  • Jonathon - I just got an IMAC Quad 4 and Apogee Ensemble to do some Home Recording using Logic Pro Express 9. Though, I am making my way through the learning curve - I have some basic questions that I need help with. I am just looking to record - that's it! Cna you help?

  • will logic express work with a bass guitar

  • @edwinrivas18

It definitely does work with bass guitar =) Thanks for the question!

  • Sir,

Would it be too much trouble to re-upload this video with a new soundtrack. It is extremely difficult to follow.

  • Hi....great tutorials...thanks! Brand new Logic user.

My Question....I have an analog setup using a Tascam mixer connected to an Alesis HD24.

Can I track using my analog set up...with the signal recording into the hd24 and also recording into Logic in real time? Essentially using the Alesis as a multi track converter

  • is this program mac only ?

  • @the1111machi

Hey! Logic Express/Pro 9 is a Mac only program.

  • Can you multi track record on this????? Like I mean record two tracks using two different mics at the same time??? PLEASE ANSWER!

  • @Guitar3575

Hey man! You can record with two different mics simultaneously very easily. I do that for vocals all the time. And I actually go over how to do all of that in Tutorial Part 7. Great question, though!

    -Jonathan

  • can logic record 12 tracks simultaneously?garage can only do 8

  • hello there, i just got logic express 9 and i had a question i am using a m-audio external source and whenever i click a sound and start recording with the keyboard, i cant seem to loop it. whenever i go to loop it it will contain the beginning space into the beat and also the end space is there anyway i can make it so it records right when i start playing and exactly when i stop? because when i loop it it gets the beat off track please let me know thanks!

  • hello, I'm new to logic express 9 and some sound techniques. I have a question. I bought my macbook pro and logic 9 days ago, and whenever I press the record button, there's feedback occurs. I cannot do any work because of the feedbacks. How can I remove this? Thanks!

  • @pparkddong

Awesome! I am happy to see another person getting into recording! And I have a feeling that the feed back is occurring for one main reason. If you are using your built-in mic and speakers. That will feed back very badly. Be sure to use headphones or external speakers if you're using your internal mic. I hope that this helps =) Thanks again for the comment!

    -Jonathan

  • does it have autotune?

  • @Katrinaaa9

It does have auto tune. I have a couple videos where I actually go over it if you would like to check it out.

    -Jonathan

  • Thank you for this work

  • Question.....How do you set it to count in? I can start and stop the metronome but I'm damned if I can find the count! Thanks, your vids are helpful.

  • @paulvcarter

Hey! Sorry about the very late response, but there is a very simple way to do it. Just hold down on the metronome button and a drop down menu appears. Go to metronome settings and you can alter all of the count ins etc. Hope this helps!

    -Jonathan

  • How can i create chapter marks? I'm using express for podcast, wich movie should i see then?

  • @movieking10

Hey great question! I have not made a video on that yet. But I can put it the next one. Here is your answer, though. On the timeline bar where the dash marks are for measures, you can right click that. When you do right click it, you can make a marker. You can put as many markers on this bar as you would like and name them how you wish at whatever point you want. Hope that is what you were looking for!

    -Jonathan

  • Nice video! when i Record, i just hear an insanely loud biiping noise(like a feedback). You know how i can fix this problem?

  • @JimiHendrix8888

I think I might have a solution for that. If you have the input device as the built-in microphone then it can feedback quite badly. You can easily solve this by plugging in headphones or something like that. Hope that this helps!

    -Jonathan

  • Thanks for making the first ever GOOD Logic 9 tutorial. There are plenty of these around but yours are the best for beginners.

  • @ak1969

That is really awesome that you think that! I am glad that they are helping you out! Thank you for the great comment =)

    -Jonathan

  • thanks for your reply

i am thinking about logic pro version what you mentioned as well. Because mainstage will be suitable for me to perform without a band.

    cheers

  • Nice video!!... I have a question, with Logic Express it's possible to have a different sounds of metronome? and to change his volume?... thanx

  • Hey thank you for the comment! And there is a way to change that tonality and such of the metronome. On the bottom right of the screen, there is a line of different buttons, including the metronome one which is on the far right. If you just click it it lights up a turquoise color. But if you hold it a drop down appears and go to metronome settings. You will find two slider bars there, one for tonality and the other for volume. Hope this helps =)

    -Jonathan

  • i really hate my pc now, grrrr

  • hi excellent video

why i have not got pedal boards , i only have amp

do you use some plug ins i am not aware of?

    thNKS

  • Thank you! And the plugins that I use all depends upon what instrument I am using. For guitar, and assuming I am using effects: reverb, delay, eq. Those are really the main plugins that I use for a guitar. But if you are wondering about another instrument, just let me know.

  • Thank you, it was very helpful in getting started. 5 stars!

  • It's awesome that they help you out! Glad that you have found use for them! Let me know if you have any questions.

    -Jonathan

  • sorry i am using logic ex 8 thats why i got no pedal board

  • @rikinoki Oh I see. well, there is an upgrade package to go from Logic 8 to Logic 9, it's probably a hundred dollars or so? But if you are interested in getting Logic 9. That might be something worth looking in to.

    -Jonathan

  • I'm thinking that it does, but I am not 100% sure of the compatibility. I am guessing that antares will work with Logic as long as you have it in the same format etc. Logic also has a pretty decent pitch correction software built in. I know its not as good as antares, but its still pretty good. Sorry I don't know exactly, hoped this help though!

    -Jonathan

  • 5 stars! Had to watch it again. Excellent!

  • Happy to hear that! Thanks for everything Tim!

    -Jonathan

  • Nice vid!

  • thanks man!

  • if i wanna record drums can i edit the sound of the bas drum on here?

if i use a mixer and such?

  • Yep you definitely can! Just have to use your interface to plug in all of your mics and have them in sync with the correct input in logic. Hope this helps!

    -Jonathan

  • Jonathan, thanks so much for making this 5 star video. It's perfect for a rookie like myself. I just started using Logic Express 9 last week. I learned a lot from this video.

    Thanks!

    peace 

    Tim
