Cheetah's do calculate their moves, they're smart predators.

Yeah that cheetah was impressive and I loved how it just charged by all the gazelles to nab the one it wanted, but shit.. that caracal was like something out of a cartoon. Because the Cheetah cant fight an adult animal when she reaches the end of a chase, she simply doesnt have enough strength left. and since only one in 20 chases ends in a succesful kill, she needs to get a 'sure thing' ;) next time when you watch the discovery channel you should pay attention to the cheetah directly after the chase, its just resting for 30 minutes easily without even touching her kill.
