  • Fig & Olive oil keep the Doctor away!

  • How much sunlight does my fig tree need? Should I plant it in direct sun of partial?

  • O _ O . . .

  • She states that she wants to open up the tree so more light can get to it but she only cuts the bottom 3 or 4 branches. I do not see how that worked. She just 'neatens' up the tree.

  • @bzdarko True, but she did get rid of pieces that weren't receiving good light. Not necessarily what she said she was gonna do, but effective nonetheless to prevent wasting precious nutrition towards parts that simply won't do as well because of where they are located.

  • Can these grow in Colorado?

  • yeah, but during the winter you have to wrap burlap around the tree, and then a black plastic. im thinking about growing some on my farm on long island ny, but its allot of work taking care of them in colder climates.

  • You may not want to prune your fig trees. It is not necessary to do it. Figs will grow on all of the growth, but you may want to shape your tree so pruning would help do that. Also, pruning at the end of the year promotes next years growth and you will get more figs. I have 8 fig trees and this has worked for me.

  • Also, the best ferilizer is cow pee. But as it is not so readily available, just suggested a more common solution.

  • Is it difficult to grow a fig tree from seed?

  • Fig trees are a huge mess O.o

  • Dear Madame:

I live in New Jersey, I have a Fig tree which did not bears any fruit for tree year now.

Would you please advise me what to do so the Fig tree will produce fruit. My back yard soil is a clay type. What fertilizer should I use and any other recommendation.

    Thanks

    Albert

  • easiest thing to do is pee on it every other day. Works wonders.

  • What is it about the pee? I've heard that before.

  • Natural fertilizer. I think it has something to do with the alkaline content.

  • Informative, I have 5 fig trees and they are doing well, did however bring them in already due to the cool weather. My cousin from Italy brought a fig tree with her from there a couple years back, its big now, she's going to be sending me two cuttings. I pretty much know what to do as far as rooting them. Any suggestions? Maggie

  • I think the time to prune a fig tree is now, Feb March. I put my clippings in a bucket with a bit of water, they root, and I let my neighbours help themselves. Figs everywhere.
