  • @fairfax17 1978-1980

  • @fairfax17 Fairfax It aired on US Televison from late 1979 to early 1981. And Due to controversial topics of a violent nature it aired late evenings 11:00-2:30 in the mornings. Also the major networks refused to carry the show. Instead it aired on the smaller networks.

  • @fairfax17 It started to Rerun in 1985. By 1990 Cable networks obtained control over the reruns and Broadcasted the show at earlier in the day.

  • What a beautiful song.

  • miss this good old tv not like the crap on to day

  • @123mrwilletts

its such a myth , this idea of a golden age of television, its nonsense.

There was just as many rubbish tv shows back then as there is now. And think of all the amazing shows we have now.

Looking at past years we always pick out the best shows of that time, thats why it seems so great, you leave out all the rubbish.

  • @SuperYellow1989 well said

  • @SuperYellow1989 Spot on. In thirty years people will say "The 2010s, that's when telly was still great... Downton Abby, Matt Smith as the Doctor, QI. So much better than the rubbish that's on now. Blessed be our robot overlords!" Nostalgia just isn't what it used to be...

  • Good grief, it will be 20 years next month since Sheila Florance who played Lizzie Birdsworth died...And the same next year since the lovely Gerda Nicolson who played 2nd Wentworth Governor Anne Reynolds passed...Wayne Jarratt (Steve Fawkner), 23 years ago..I am going to stop there as it is sad to think that he was only 31 years old back in 1988 when he passed..Also the DVD boxsets I am watching at the moment feature Wayne's episodes.

  • @DaveyC95 yeah i bought tickets to see the stage show in Glasgow with Lizzie being one of the stars to appear but she passed away before they hit the uk, was still a great show with Bea Chrissie and vinegar tits doing an interview on stage instead

  • @stoojkm Good, I would have been about 7 or 8 back then lol..Did you see Carol Burns who played Franky Doyle there?..I ask Because she did the Derby one with Val Lehman, Sheila and Amanda Muggleton back in 1990.

  • Hmmmm caged heaaaaaaaaaaaaat

  • Reb Keane was as cool as fuck

  • This show was before its time. Crazy good television.

  • I cried at the end of every episode because of this song. As a child it was one of the only shows that every one in the house watched.

  • Miss Lizzie, Bea, Fletch the Letch, Meg etc, what a show. Loved it

  • beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.......bring back prisoner cell block h.......whose wiv me?????????

  • The Freak :)

  • OMG memories........ shocking I still know all the lyrics, wicked sing along.... he used....

  • Who sang this lol

  • @deldelxxx Lynn Hamilton

  • @deldelxxx I find it pretty odd that you asked that when it's revealed right at the start of the video where it says "Prisoner Cell Block H theme: On the Inside by Lynne Hamilton.

  • Vinegar tits LOL

  • im only 10 and i love prisoner!! :)

  • i love this show!!how long did it go for??from 1979 till??

  • @pogah1985 It lasted from 1979 to 1986.

  • Vera was a idiot. No one liked her

  • amen! Bring back our ladies! x

    Lizzie, Doreen et al.

  • i loved this show,

  • I saw this on our PBS affiliate here in the States, and this show scared the shit out of me as a child, the lady guards in particular!

  • I love this show! Im *re watching it on 111 hits on foxtel!!!!!

  • @JacquesZupp lolololol

  • Brings back memories and makes me a little melancholy....but I loved this series. Used to watch it faithfully in the Bahamas.

  • Im currantly watching prisoner on dvd i wish too it would come back to tv

  • 0:34 I hate that bitch

  • If it's on again in Oz, I'm guessing one day soon it will be broadcast in the UK. I believe the reason behind the repeats embargo previously was a rights issue after Grundy TV became part of Pearson International. Now it's all part of Freemantle. Freemantle is highly operational in the UK. Let's hope it gets a well deserved re-run. I have the first 100 episodes on DVD (got them as a press release while working on a newspaper) but I wouldn't mind seeing them all. Peak time on ITV1 I say. lol!

  • Any one know the guitar chords for this?

  • ah good old bea smith, the top dog, there is not a day goes by where i do not quote one of her many threats.

  • shes wants to see the Governor, she wants to see the governor, she wants to see the governor, shes gone to get the governor LMAO!! classic!

  • The only girls I can pull look like Cell Block rejects!

  • im so glad this is back on, loving every minute of it

  • @ironklad2001

where is it on? in the uk?

  • @gaz141 Its on again in Australia

  • @ironklad2001: I am watching it day by day

  • @gaz141 it was on uk gold my friend

  • Brilliant programme!

  • Brilliant series ever.. Watching all over again. I grew up watching it... Only now do I realise how inappropriate it was for a kid to watch... Always loved the theme song :-)

  • Love it!!! <3 Best theme tune EVERRRR!!!!!

  • I remember them all. They were like friends.I had a crappy job at Burger King among others in San Francisco, it was the mid 1980's. I watched everynight at midnight. It helped me through some hard times. Sharing their heart breaks and victories helped me face my own in time. Of course I dont carry a steam iron around with me.

  • @EveHenleySpread,cheers for that!

  • GOING SLEEP WATCHING THIS WAS HEAVEN FOR ATIME

  • is lizzie still alive?

  • @123Sarrah Afraid not - she died in 1991 aged 75

  • So that's WatAppaned... Unfortunately Japan is on the other side of the planet from Canada, not Australia. You can dial 666 all you want to , you'll just NEVER get the Australian police. Just, maybe if you're licky, Nurse Taylor...

    ( o)( x)

  • great show, seems to get better as the years go by. my favourite charactors were vera bennett and bea smith.

  • Sheila also worked on stage in the UK with the likes of Dame Sybil Thorndyke and Sir John Gielgud and during WWII in an air raid, she was stepping off a train in Temple Meads station in Bristol, when a bomb dropped nearby blowing her baby daughter from her arms. They never found the body. Sad,but true.

  • Love it!!! So glad that Foxtel are starting the series on the 7th March!!! Woo hoo, I'll be watching every single episode, just like I did back in the 80's !!!

  • @MsRebant You know many of the episodes are on here right?

  • @MsRebant I've been watching it too on foxtel for the first time - I'm 25 years old so was born too late to watch it. Really enjoying it!

  • who sang this song please inbox me

  • I think they mean the roses in the prison garden.Even nature is imprisoned by walls, fences and bars. Most women are behind bars because of a man. Men tend to be the gender that initiates a crime, yes there are plenty of exceptions. But worldwide there are per ratio more men than women incarcerated.

  • i remember watching this here in Arizona late at night back in the early '80s with my mum and sister. the only ones i remember in it though, are Bee and Franky. "Franky was looking at my bum". lol

  • Vinegar Tits : )

  • I loved this show . It used to air in NY at 2;30am on WPIX .

  • wow i know all the words, altho some dont make sense, roses arent prisoners

  • My mom and I watched the syndicated show here in the States.

  • i remember staying up late to watch

  • prisoner cell block h a classic programme bring it back

  • This music is so amazingly beautiful! The vocal melody (composer) and performance (singer) are the best in theme music that I've heard. The lyrics, well, mostly great with some cheesy clunkiness to them - I give them a C+. But the music! A++! (If you can believe it, I'm a die hard fan of hard rock too!)

  • I am Greek and when I was going on holiday to London I was watching that Australian show.

  • There could have a mass break out if some one had smuggled a pair of scissors into the jail

  • Last night i dreamt we were together.

  • I loved this programme. My friends and I used to watch this programme together sometimes.Great memories

  • get a life you soppy load of toads ,but then again what the hell am i on here for lol

  • Comment removed

  • @musicmanoo she died in 1991

  • @musicmanoo she wasn't born tin 1916 so therefore she would only have been 95 but she sadly passed away in 1991 anyway, so you have been misinformed

  • Hahaa me too, we loved it. Was the best thing ever..

  • @ jeeverdelamole .Did any body besides Ravers, Splif heads watch Cell Block H.?

  • I love this song and the series! Broadcasts of the series, showed up here in Canada early on in the tapings in Austrailia. I loved the episode where Lizzie steals Frankie's smokes, and Frankie responds by taking her teeth, in season 1! Talk about a Charwomens' brawl! To think I was nine when this show aired. For it's time, it was amazing, even for nowadays. Nobody spoke about women in prison, let alone wrote about it. Thanks for sharing!

  • great song and show

  • i used to watch this with my daughter

  • My mum used to make me stay up and watch this with her.Queen Bea was a legend, but wee Lizzie was the best i loved that wee wumin.Always sad when this came on at the end.Great telly.

  • Ooh, i've never heard this song before, wheres it from?

  • I can't believe this song is on youtube. I used to watch this series in the 80's here in the United States. My mother and I loved this song. I wish she were alive to hear it again.

  • I used to love watching this in Uk in early 90s. Would have my toddler with me and we'd enjoy watching it - not really kids TV but we enjoyed it - especially the 'freak'!

  • Our nan let us watch it in the late 80s. I was only about 4 when it first aired in 1987 on ITV! I remember watching it up and until the last episode in about 1998, when I was 15, so I basically grew up with it..

  • i remember staying up all night to watch the final episode!!! Brilliant :D
