  • floppy drives should be used as musical instruments for future attempts to create a new movement of techno, or maybe a new movement of metal/rock.

  • Lol! So cool, I had a compaq deskpro en where the Hard Drive played music.

  • LMAO

  • now, I wonder how i break my floppy drive in my deskpro EN system to get it to play music :)

  • Lol that's sweet.

  • This rythm would be pro if someone made a kickass remix.

  • Where did you get the program???

  • That's pretty cool if it can be done in software with no modifications to the drive or controller.

  • It can. What's really happening is that there's data on the disk telling the drive to jump to a location, and then that location tells it to go somewhere else, making the read head move all over the place. The motor that moves the read head is a stepper motor, I believe, and moving it makes the sound. the speed that it moves at affects the tone.

  • sounds like something from an old Atari game...

  • xDxDxDxDxD

    Good music!

  • Awesome!

LOL it sounds like a saxophone....

  • cool but old

  • So thats what they are for?

  • hahahhaahh

  • lol wtf?

  • lmfao

  • Just a few days ago, I was formatting two floppies on two different machines. They created a beat. It would be great to mix those in with this...

  • That is the BEST floppy drive ever!!!!!!

  • The drive appears to produce 3 distinct "notes", the first, somewhere between Eb and E, then the next being an octave below that (having the mechanism run at half the speed of the first "note", im assuming) and the third note being F#, about one and a half steps above the second note. Very cool.

  • That's... weird. But cool :D

  • sound like my floppy drive when i format it... it make more of a brrrrrrrrrrrrrr*stop*wakakakak akaka*stops again* brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr wah=kakakkak noise

  • When the floppy drive died it started playing different music based on the floppy that was inserted. I believe this was a Windows 98 boot floppy. Most of the disks I tried made boring songs.

  • Can I buy the rights to use that sound in a song? Hehe... those stepper motors sound awesome.

  • LOOOOOOL
