they have spammed youtube preventing me from finding out how to actually make absinthe from scratch so that i give up and buy a crappy kit funding the bastards who inadvertantly did this, which is ironic if you read up on the original bohemian nature of the drink
Oh Allen, where do I start? First of all, number your segments so we know what order to watch them in. Second, make the segments longer than one and a half minutes (try for a segment that lasts as long as the step you're trying to teach us). Third, (this segment ends abruptly)...
As far as I know you have to dampen the Worm wood let it sit in a warm dry place for about a week then you mix it with a grain alcohol and distill it. After the final distillation. 3-4 distillations you add aged warm wormwood the the batch and let it steep for about a month. Then filter out the bits and drink.
mind you all this is information I was taught as a little boy from my grandfather.
I don't know if it works and It might kill you. He made moonshine so its bets not to do this.
Well, I think most people here mean you can't make absinthe Only by steeping herbs (and omitting distillation). There are some "professors" who think it's made of fermented wormwood, but this idea is not that widespread.
heh, so according to this video.. I can make rum by soaking sugar in vodka, right? RIGHT?
god, what a fucking moron. this guy fucking fell for an internet scam and tried to sell it to an internet video firm and then THEY fell for the fucking scam..
for fuck sakes.. jesus... I bet this whole operation is from the midland United States.
@dizavin I'm not in aw of this product either but some of you need to get a few things straight here.
The process of making absinthe isn't to MAKE alcohol, but to FLAVOR alcohol.
Everything this kit does is exactly how absinthe is made (using their own grain alcohol, i'm sure)...the only difference is that they don't distill it but rather filter it (hah).
@retrohippie So the only difference is that all the chemical substances that are meant to be discarded are going to be in the drink. So the only difference is it will have a completely different (and utterly disgusting) taste. If this filtration method woudl be so cool then there'd be Swiss style filtered absinthes, but there aren't.
You can't make anything like 20 proof brandy by Filtering wine, you know.
@nalyib You're right, the "filtration" thing used in this kit is the only thing different about the process of making absinthe and the REAL process of making absinthe.
Everyone is insulting this kit by saying, "You can't make absinthe by soaking herbs in alcohol" .....when that's exactly HOW you make absinthe.
Absinthe is almost no different than making a liqueur. The only difference is that you're distilling it and not adding sugar instead of this "filtration" thing that this kit advertises
All these people picking on vodka lol all it is is a pure watered down version of everclear so combining the two is just stupid to begin with. if ur tryin to cut the proof down ur better to just go with the everclear and cut it with distilled water and start from there. you'll never get the true effects of true Absinthe doin it this very lame attempted way. As iv always learned if ur gonna do it do it right and dont cut corners otherwise u get a half assed result like this crap.
A High Alcohol content clear brandy would be better then after the soaking period or "maceration" distill it and you'll have a decent Blanche absinthe
Hey libellule70, I think you may have misunderstood, I was also discouraging people from drinking the flavoured vodka trying to pass as absinthe!:) I of course drink distilled Swiss/French absinthe, though the Eich line from Germany is quite good as well.
I was told that if you use vodka it will be tan. If you use everclear or Bicardi(clear rum) it's supposed to be green. I haven't tried making it my self.....
actually, i heard that your supposed to distill it again, and add some seeds for flavour and coloring, but since its vodka, its normal if it turns tan, theres nothing wrong done

THIS KIT WILL NOT MAKE REAL ABSINTHE, but artificially coloured and flavoured vodka.
This is not an "expert" video by any means!

@TheAbsintheReviewNet
This is totaly exact and this sort of drevage was so called "absinthoïde" (fake absinthe) in the old days.
Real absinthe is distilled!
Try classical French or Swiss absinthe, you'll never drink any more your flavoured vodla :oP
