  • This is from the times when the Canadian music industry supported its artists! Now all we have is j.beebs and that rapper to represent, sad that if you want to make it big you have to capitulate to down south ways. Support Canadian music!

  • damn it! compute volume wont go loud enough!

  • WOW, this is "tough" I have never heard of this singer, very cool!!

  • one of me favs. ONE of my favs.

  • :) :) ooo yeah

  • heard this on rock101 awesome song, obviously its born in Canada...

  • does anyone care about the origin of the dobro? Colin rocks

  • Uhm He did make it big and is still doing concerts and selling them out! He is fantastic live!! Went to the "Limelight" tour concert in Calgary and he did 5 encores!

    Awesome guy!

  • @BlueRoses1962 All you Canadians need to do me a favor and send him down to Detroit.

  • This cat is filled with BAD ASSERY...

    Master of the string

  • @Donuts&Nato...add another

  • i ride my zamboni all over saskatchewan !

  • Can't believe this guy never made it big . Awesome blues rock.

  • @Donuts62 He was filling stadiums back in the 80's, from what I understand.

  • @nato101010 maybe it was just in UK he wasn't known then. Only know of one other person here who has heard of him.

  • just heard this on the radio. great song and i had to get the name of the artist :]

  • ooooooh that steel guitar intro gives me a chubby.

  • @Kocis19 Strangely enough, that's not a steel guitar. It's a resonator guitar - probably a National Steel - which is why I say strangely. A steel guitar sits on legs like a table top and would go nicely with Colin's boots. For what it's worth, they are tuned differently, played differently and make different sound.

  • @soin2top

Can anyone spell Dobro? Played the same as an acoustic or with a glass or brass tube in conjunction or instead of the fingers...very versatile...I have an electric/acoustic...Nuff said...or Google, LOL.

  • @zipup99 Well, not to put too sharp a point on it, but it isn't a dobro either. Dobro's a typically square necked wooden body with a resonator. The strings will be raised. The thing Colin James is playing is chrome plated brass, round neck with fretable strings.

  • @soin2top Why even bother to make a rebuttal without backing up your statement? I can totally agree with someone who makes a valid "point", but don't just say something is, just because of your opinion. Would you care for page references? DOBRO's can be made of wood or fricken' plastic, not just metal...the resonator does the work. I could have bought one like his...it was just too gaudy, LOL...and it was listed as a Dobro in the instrument catalogue.

  • @zipup99 Well, no actually. Dobro is a brand name not a descriptive term. Owned by the Gibson company and for now are as I have described.

  • @soin2top You do get points for Gibson owning the rights to the Dobro name...but as to Dobro not being a descriptive term for that type of acoustic guitar...try checking a few sites: When Gibson informed other dobro guitar makers of its intention to reserve exclusive rights to the Dobro name, some players began to refer to their instruments as TIFKAD guitars, meaning "The Instrument Formerly Known As Dobro". ://folkmusic.about.com/od/glossary/g/Dobro.htm

  • @soin2top As for a brand name being used as "a descriptive term" for a generic product...I guess you never went into a store and asked for Aspirin made by Bayer...when you really wanted the cheaper, generic acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) product? Look up Wikipedia for Dobro and they mention Gibson and the original manufacturers. I'm sure all the 4 wheelin' guys out there have to be told to stop calling their rigs "Jeeps", because Chrysler owns it. They bought it from AMC...who got it from Willy's

  • I love the intro to this song

  • when i hear american women i get all stoked because i think its this song and then american women comes on and im like ahhhh man

  • This American used to travel to Canada a lot in the late 80s/early 90s and I always enjoyed hearing Colin James on the radio.

  • fucking love this intro

  • @adrian719 the intro is a cover of "Stones in my passway" by robert johnson. I think it's the best cover of the song I have heard, even better than clapton's. It's masterful and soulful imo.

  • @hmeboy its awesome. I can listen to it all day and not get tired of it!

  • @adrian719 agreed friend. I would like to hear him do the whole song. It blows my mind that a white canadian guy can have that much soul, but then again look at clapton, a brit with a heart of blues. awesome.

  • Robert Johnson ... Stones in My passway

  • i sat next to this guy at a vancouver canucks game

  • Colin James is phenomenal live!!! Very underestimated composer, singer, guitarist. Shame he never made it bigger than he did. I love his old stuff as much as his new stuff

  • Why even bother to make a rebuttal without backing up your statement? I can totally agree with someone who makes a valid "point", but don't just say something is, just because of your opinion. Would you care for page references? DOBRO's can be made of wood or fricken' plastic, not just metal...the resonator does the work. I could have bought one like his...it was just too gaudy, LOL...and it was listed as a Dobro in the instrument catalogue.

  • He toured with SRV when he was about 15.

  • and SRV was so impressed he got to an entire tour with him.. it took a LOT to impress SRV.. this guys awesome

  • best part of the song is probably the Robert Johnson at the beginning.. well.. to me personally anyway.

  • the lightning bolt guitar strap is essential

  • epic lol

  • Has he ever done a full length version of "Stones In My Passway"? The little intro on this is great.

  • ive seen him at massey hall in toronto and he ROCKS, completely killed the place

  • SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous. UGH! He's amazing eh??!!!!

  • if he were american he would definentely be the next srv

  • Thanks for posting this! I had heard it only once, about a year ago on a small FM station near Seattle, but it stuck in my mind due to the introduction taken from Robert Johnson, the driving bass lines, and the guitar solo, which is well constructed. And of course, the story is great. Lots of great stuff here. Thanks again.

  • hes from alberta lol of course someone is going to be reltated

  • He is from Saskatchewan, Regina to be exact, he is not from Alberta.

Greatest Voice in Canada hope u will be around for many years and many Generation to come

  • I remember when he played at the dances at the Old Student Union Building at the University of Regina, and he was great then!

  • He's the master. But I forgot how short he was.

He also looks like fellow Canuck Michael J Fox in this video.

  • One of the best driving songs. Colin James is the Man.

  • This guy is amazing. We live in New Zealand and no one knows who he is!!!! We were introduced to his music by my wifes brother who lives in Montreal and have since managed to import ALL his albums...... he is kick arse.

  • Wicked fucking Song :)

  • good ol 80's bangs lol...

  • im from the same city as him

  • "One of Canaduh's best for sure!!!"

  • perfect break up cut..AWSOME!!

  • Colin rocks.. love this song!

  • I've said it before, I'll say it again, Canadians kick ass harder in the world of rock--Even with CanCon in effect, you still have to be good to get past any American band, who simply get on the radio for being Americans.

  • Great backup singers :)

  • i saw him lst night on an old rerun of the super dave osbourne show/ excellent perfrmance of Voodoo thing

  • My wife saw him live at one of his first performances. she says he was hoooot. I guess i was hotter. HaHa. Go get em James.

  • My favourite line is "I didn't look up your number, I just looked on the wall!"

  • man this guy doesn't get enough credit he is hardcore

  • Deffanetly, he's probably the most underrated & overlooked guitarests ever, other then Jeff Martin (of The Tea Party), & Jeff Waters (of Annihilator)
