  • LOVE IT !!!

  • I love this version...thanks

  • This is my favourite song of all time and this variation is beautiful. Thank you.

  • I love this girl, she was amazing. I've sought out her video's on here over the past year or so and the one thing that amazes me is how much she was/is loved. When some moron has a wise ass comment about her, her fans attack the offender viciously lol. I'm glad to see that, she is untouchable to these people (myself included) and they won't allow any derrogatory comments directed at her. I wonder if she would have met the same fate if she knew how much people loved her?

  • It is fascinating how self perception can be so deceiving. She was so extraordinary and talented beyond reason, and yet could only see her image, which also was not bad. Hey, if I could choose between stunning looks or that voice, I'd take the voice, hands down. All the best wishes for her and her surviving family. terribly missed!

  • I LIKE VERY MUTCH ...j'aime beaucoup .....

  • This needs Richard's lush backing...he brought out the best in Karen.

  • Don't read this cause it actually works. U will be kissed in the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you do not post this comment on at least 3 videos you will die within 2 days. Now you started reading this don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 videos in 143 minutes when your done, press f6 and your lovers name will appear on screen in big letters this is so scary cause it actually works

  • What a Voice !

    Thank You Karen Carpenter !

Thanks Ricasilgo for the acapella version. It really shows what a pure voice Karen has...

    Absolutely Beautiful !

  • If only she could have seen herself as the beautiful, talented woman she was

  • is this what you call capella?

  • Isn't in on an sacd track and then you just can move it around so you can hear her LEAD mostly.

  • karens voice is so magical

  • she died????

  • @Darian571 yeah she was anorexik, she died from it, she was the first famous people to die from it

  • EXCELLENT version - It sounds like she is in the room with us !

  • !!! ESPECTACULAR !!! . .. ÉSTA SI QUE ERA UNA CANTANTE EXCEPCIONAL , A CAPELLA !!!

  • Karen Carpentes, a maior cantora de todos os tempos.

  • This is not a capella. I can hear the background music.

  • To the person who posted this: do you know what A capella means????

  • @BellaDonna495 I was only focusing on your comment about how awful she looked, the comment I replied with the glass half empty, remember her by how beautiful she was, both in looks and her singing, the glass half full !

If we all remember someone by one small moment that didn't look right then what a sad world it would be, BTW I respect you have an opinion, if it''s private then don't post here for all the world to see and comment on

  • @BellaDonna495 also did you know Karen was suffering from bilemia at this stage which explains why she looks withdrawn. Anorexia brought on by bilemia kills hundreds if not thousands all because there are people who have low self esteem compounded by negative comments made about them from people who have nothing better to do.

  • @BellaDonna495 Hmmm in one breath you say Karen looked terrible at 1.14 but then go on to say if it weren't for that reporter she's still be with us here today.

It's this reason why a lot of people give up when so many people such as yourself are so critical. If you weigh up the neg against the pos the pos would win hands down but so many want to raise the neg just to have something to say. When will people learn about the glass half full instead looking at it half empty, this is what's sad.

  • The second big problem is that the lead vocal isn't the only thing placed in the center of a mix. Center channel cancellation removes EVERYTHING in the center. Kick drum, snare, lead guitar, bass. Whatever's there gets cancelled. And even those instruments that aren't placed squarely in the center can suffer from center channel cancellation. Usually what you end up with is a hollow shell that used to sound like music.

  • @leenicklen Who cares about how technical it sounds ??? This is a voice of an angel and if she put out an album where she sang the phone book, I would be the first in line to buy it.

  • But there are some big problems with center channel cancellation. First, although it is common to put lead vocals in the center of a stereo mix, it is also very common to put effects (reverb, delay, etc) on the lead vocal that cover the entire stereo field. So although you might remove the (dry) lead vocal, what you'll leave behind is the reverb tails and the strange remnants of a vocal that's no longer there.

  • Inverted the mix, that's all. This is not a Capella.

    Phase inversion.

The idea behind center channel cancellation is pretty simple. If you have a piece of stereo audio, you can invert the polarity of either the left or right channel, and combine them. This takes any material common to the left and right channels and cancels it out. Since it is common to place the lead vocal in the center of a stereo mix, this technique can effectively remove the vocals.

  • nice. ripped from guitarhero????

  • I find it ironic that Richard could write a song with lyrics such as in this song knowing what Karen was going through, to hear the words "I say goodbye to love" Karen gave up on herself through lack of self esteem after accidentally hearing a conversation about her and how she looked. Karen was and still is an inspiration to many people, myself included.

  • @myfeeling4you This song was not only written by Richard Carpenter but, also, John Bettis....In an interview with John Bettis he wrote the lyrics to this song because it was something that they were all going through, not just Karen...Being as busy as all three of them were, they evidently could not make the time to have a relationship with someone and fall in love, at the time.

  • @Karenfan09 From memory I remember Karen felt lousey about her weight after the conversation she overheard was about her weight resulting in her death from bilemia, I guess not having a relationship where the support from a boyfriend or husband maybe could have helped, being alone, even though busy allows the mind to think the worst. In the case of Karen singing songs that probably played on her heart affected her inner being. Knowing what others thought of her, the songs, loneliness didn't help

  • @myfeeling4you I suggest that you read, "Little Girl Blue - The Life of Karen Carpenter" by Randy Schmidt before making any kind of comments....Karen Carpenter did not die from bulemia but from complications from anorexia nervosa after years of starving her organs,....There was also traces of ipecac syrup in her blood found during her autopsy which when ingested, weakens the heart muscles...This caused her heart arythmia on Feb 4, 1983 which caused her to go into cardiac arrest at parent's home.

  • @Karenfan09 I correct myself here, yes she died form anorexia brought on by bulemia and not directly from bulemia

  • @myfeeling4you I don't think that Karen would have jeopardized her singing voice by regurtitating her food....She was losing weight by starvation, laxatives, and the abuse of the thyroid medication Synthroid to speed up her metabolism.

  • @Karenfan09

Nice job. Your research is right on the money. The long term effects of starving her organs which resulted in anorexia nervosa coupled with the ingestion of ipecac syrup which precipitated her heart arythmia is what took her.

  • Nice to hear Karen w/out all the mixing, reverb, etc.

  • @BellaDonna495 I think that story about the reporter is false. I'm pretty sure that the weird family dynamics, her being teased about her weight by friends and family as a child/teenager, and the lack of control in Karen's life played a larger part in the development of her illness.

  • @sponge2,Your correct. The story with the reporter never happened.

  • WOW ! GASP !!

  • Love the stripped down mix. I shows the beauty, emotion and presence of Karens voice. Few singers could sound this good without much backing.

  • This really isn't a capella.

  • lovely voice

  • Found out about this song by listening to Holly in Red Dwarf's Queeg episode.

  • uh, a capella means that there is nothing but voice. Still, it's Karen.

  • Karen Spirit is me

  • wow...

  • *Ricasilgo* As is typical, most fanatics aren't interested in "arguing" nor in discussing facts. If they did, their beliefs would fall apart. Why can't you enjoy the song without interjecting your religion?

    Jeeze

  • This sounds like it's just an incomplete mix, but KC's vocals are still worth it.

  • Thats not acapella, it's not even acoustic cause the bass is electric. Acapella is without accompaniment. This had piano bass and drums

  • I don't feel any acapella here...

  • i can feel

  • This is the center channel track from the surround sound SACD version. It would have been nice to have the whole song.

  • I love the Carpenters music but..........It is so terrible that Karen (and Richard) lived out the lyrics to this song. The love that is referred to is not a love that you have with a man or woman. "If there is someone to believe in and to live for.....something I could live for" These lyrics describe exactly what we need......that longing and empty space can only be filled by Jesus Christ. I'm not looking to argue...so please don't waste your time ;)

  • Hmm. This isn't genuinely a capella because the accompaniment is clearly audible. It sounds as if it's basically the audio track from the actual recording.

  • use your imagination ...

  • @fernald10 Few humans give us a glimpse of what Heaven must be like. Karen was one of those very few among us.

  • @Wikipunani Who do you think does the solos in the choir up there?

  • @cosg9531 Um . . . are you serious? There was no "choir." Richard and Karen overdubbed their two voices to get the effect of a full chorus.

  • @JimNKnoxville cosg9531 was referring to Karen singing solos in a heavenly choir because her voice is so beautiful; nothing to do with this recording. You need to either learn to read, or pay attention, or both.

  • @JeffersonDinedAlone Ha ha! A little of both, I guess. Yeah, I looked at your comment out of context, didn't notice what had been said before. So I apologize for thinking you're an idiot. It could also have something to do with the fact that I don't believe in Heaven; what's left of Karen Carpenter, other than these gorgeous recordings, is in a box in California. But hey, thanks for your VERY KIND response!

  • @fernald10 agree. but what great a great audio track!

  • @fernald10 WHO REALLY CARES IF THERE IS SMALL BACKGROUND MUSIC,YOUR AN IDIOT,SMELL THE COFFEE,THEN DRINK IT GET THE FULL EXPERIENCE, I BET YOU WERE THE LITTLE TATTLETALE WHEN YOU WENT TO SCHOOL ON THAT LITTLE BUS.

  • @fernald10 ease up

  • holly on red dwarf sings it better XD

  • Lets hear Brittney Spears do that!

  • As alan carr said one time, britney sounds like she's singing through a mc donalds drive-thry speaker phone.....lol

  • love this songg :D x

  • pretty nifty to think it was acapella...

  • This vocal was taken from the Carpenters Singles 1969-1981 SACD with 5.1 surround sound. They just isolated the center channel. :)

  • i am very much relate to this song.

  • this is my song.

  • 0:19, 0:19, thats a SWEET ASS picture, I want that @#$%!

  • so uncalled for when she died of anorexia. sort yourself out

  • Oh your right girl, what was I thinking?. My bad...........

  • Listen to the message, not the delivery.

  • I thought acapella was without instruments

  • cappella = chapel : in Italian

  • That may well be the translation but it doesn't answer my question. Every time a vocal act appears without instruments

they are presented as peforming acapella. This clip has instruments.

  • the music just hasnt been cut out very well

acapella means singing or vocals without instruments

this isnt a very good acapella example... :)

  • I have a CD of a bunch of their tracks with jsut piano, bass, and piano...it's amazing to hear Karen w/out the overdubbing, mixing, sweetening, etc..just pure karen.

  • What is the name of the CD that you are referring to? And where did you get it? Thanks.

  • A friend in New Zealand sent me the CDs and they are around my house somewhere. If you go to one of the main Carpenters websites and contact one of the web site owners I'm sure they can help you track it down (I think it's bootleg recordings).

  • those communties hate to the people...like me...who make the karen`s tribute

  • How did you get this????

  • I obtained for one link of the community of the Carpenters. Who made was a Brazilian.

  • I think some Carpenters super cd versions were released and they have like 5 channels of audio and this is a couple of the 5 tracks that were siphoned off the cds.

  • Nice job! I always wished more people had the opportunity to hear the center channel (of which this originated). Just wish it wasn't cut off.
