  • Never has love been so evident in the way they are (almost) yelling at each other! Mr. Darcy wants to kiss her so badly that he can't contain himself, and Lizzie wants him to kiss her just as much. It is a slow, continuous, burning- a love that is simmering, and just needs that one simple thing to make it blaze- the realization that they DO love one another. So lovely!

  • I love how british people are portrayed in movies--on paper that entire conversation can be construed as polite

  • i love how when he says "i love you" like he's been waiting to say it for such a long time and can't bear it any longer. so romantic. just watch the 1995 version of the proposal scene and compare it to this one. this one is SO MUCH BETTER!

  • I almost cried at the end of the rain scene. You can see the heartbreak in his eyes.

  • How it should have went down:

    *deep emotional stare*

    SMOOCH

Forgive me, madam, for taking up so much of your time. *Darcy leaves."

  • i really wished she didnt yell like that. makes her looks that much less dignified and calm, in the book shes described as maintaining her composure and NOT yelling, here she just goes bezerk lol

  • oh god, the "almost kiss"... my knees feel so weak right now, haha.

  • Mr darcy has such pretty eyes! n.n especially in that rain scene ^.^

  • "do you expect me to rejoice in the inferiority of your circumstances?" OH MR. DARCY U WERE DOING SO WELL FROM " I " TO "LOVE YOU" LMFAO everythign else was just a no go zonee

ps. mr darcy is gorgeous<3333333333333 just needs a lesson on how to propose to his loveee

  • The almost kiss....I'm just like kiss her dammit!

  • @TheElsewhere19 . LOL I was saying the same thing!

  • @Aurra310 Lol. One of them just needs to lean in half an inch and theyre golden:)

  • this is painstakingly Romantic

  • I love this movie buuuut the language is not really right "I'm quite over him" was not said in the 18th century!!

  • I watched this movie 37 times. I kept count!

It's been my favourite movie since I was 10.

  • my heart feels the stinging of elizabeth's words as she bashes darcy..its soo sad

  • screw edward..mr.darcy is where its at..

  • Absolutely love the subtlety of Matthew MacFadyen's performance!! Colin Firth is an undeniably brilliant actor, this role included. But for me, Matt's interpretation adds an element of consistency to Darcy. He manages to walk the line between sweet, awkward woobie and proud, brooding prick perfectly imo--while he does shift, the viewer(& Lizzie)can find evidence for both throughout the whole movie. An extremely hard role to play because Darcy has to be so many things. This is a long comment..

  • 2:47 YES! *swoon*

  • I LOVE HIS VOICE!

  • he looked so heart broken at 3:43

  • this is the first time i have seen this, but if Elizabeth and Mr Darcy do not end up together i may possibly cry

  • @meganbut read the book!

  • ooh, ouch! rejection! know how that feels!

  • i miss rain like that

  • his eyesss. oh my god

  • my favorite section of the movie

  • I am seriously the wicked witch of the west melting in the rain by just looking at Mr Darcy.......

  • at 3:09 he is such a hottie!!!!!!!! You can tell he rly love Lizzie by the way he is akward when she is near to him or when he talks about her :)

  • boy does he kno how to charm a girl!! couldnt he have just started with i love you bcuz everything her said b4 00:40 was just mean rude and dat is not how you ask someone to marry you!!!

  • I love how Mr. Darcy turns his head at 2:36 showing his increasing exasperation at Lizzie's innocent stubbornness. It's rather funny considering he doesn't show much anger at all.

  • Whoa, he has seriously gorgeous eyes.

I never noticed before the rain scene..

  • He is sexy

  • The best 'near kiss' in all of movie history! Period.

  • He is so sexy when he's angry! XD AAAGGGGHHHHH! just kiss! the chemistry is so passionate in this, Loving it ;))

  • who's mr. Wickham compared to mr. Darcy? no one. mr. Darcy is so sweet, never thought he could have been selfish or something like that. I was about to cry when Lizzy told that she would never have married him.

  • when she tells him that she would never marry him his face makes me want to cry

  • I LOVE DARCY!!!!!!!!!! GOD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PUT SUCH A MAN IN MY PATH, EVEN IF HE'S HALF THE MAN DARCY IS, I WOULD STILL BE SOOOOOO VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!! (wow i sound as i was from that period, lmao)

  • Mr.Darcy looks more good looking in the rain :)

  • I am in love with Mr. Darcy!!

  • "you are the last man in the world I could ever married"

it looks like he is going to cry, aw.

  • man!! so hot...

  • Mr. Darcy looked so sad when she said she wouldn't marry him. :(

  • @Ilovetheoutsiders1 well yeah but he was kinda rude when he said he was asking her to marry him against his better judgement.......................i mean it's sweet that he defied all those people to marry her but if i was being proposed to like that im not sure i'd say yes

  • @Catiebug15 kinda rude he was an ass n od rude and mean!!! i woulda smacked da shit outta him n kept it pushing!!

  • why is she so mean?

  • @TheCatclaw101 Because she believes he has been cruel to Jane & Bingley and Wickham.

  • they were soooo gonna kisss!!! omg!!!!!!! lol srsly.... omg they shld have!

  • They SOOO wanted a KISS!!!

  • oh lord COME BACK MR.DARCY!

  • who can compare twilight with this novel?, pnp is a classic. Twilight though it describes the feelings of love better and less subtle than pnp, it cannot compare with the in depth content of pnp, twilight lacks so much, and can never compare.

  • ugh, stephenie meyer and her "homages"...twilight couldn't hold a candle to pride and prejudice, never.

  • This is such a beautiful movie I could watch this movie over and over again.

  • I do watch this over and over again...I have it memorized. This perfection only happens rarely, if ever, in real life.

  • Lol when he asked her to marry him i practically jumped outta my seat in happyness :]

  • i love her eye make-up in the rain scene...absolutely smokey and authentic.

  • @myemilrob

    yes i agree, very beautiful!

  • GAH!!!!!!!!!!!! I was a cemeter away from the screen at the rain scene then he had to go all dramatic and stuff and leave me and Elizabeth hanging :(

  • god. they totally wanted to kiss.

  • This is my favorite scene in the whole movie. I didn't understand many of the words said and had to look them up later, but just by the way he looked at her was so sweet and you could tell she had hurt him very deeply by how he stared!

  • Poor Mr Darcy's ego has been bruised!

  • i dont get it lol...they were gonna kiss but then they were arguing like 2 seconds before it.....caught in the moment i guess??? hahaha i like d scene where she sees him in his mansion than this one though

  • we're doing this play in my theater group.

Our Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are AWESOME in this scene, but they could get a bit more if they watch the scene. They do almost kiss and those of us back stage are like o_o "Omg..."

  • an excellent movie this is

  • i'm in love. save me from this obsession!!

  • this is my favorit part of the movie

  • Some think it's his pride and her prejudice...,but I do believe it's more than that...they're both proud and they both have prejudices...

  • i thought they were gonna kiss too.lol i sooooo wanted it badly. love mr. darcy.

  • Beautiful...the proposal scene...

  • I love Mr.Darcy's eyes... so beautiful

  • Looked like they were going to kiss... it must have hurt him so much to walk away.... I FEEL YOUR PAIN :'<

  • She's running because she's so upset after learning (in the church scene) that Darcy is responsible for the break up of Jane and Bingley.

  • Most ardently....

  • GAHHH

*Melts into pool of water....Mr. Darcy....*

I feel like even though this wasnt in the book, they could've kissed, and I would've liked it!

  • His pride, her prejudice... hence the title. This story is something that I'm absolutely in love with. My favourite love story of all time!

  • why is she running?

  • did she feel regret after getting angry to Darcy?

  • @natalienat518 no, she is confused about his feelungs towards her and wonders if she made the right decision.

  • she felt regret after she recieve the letter because she realises that she was full of prejudice against him

  • this is my favorite scene in the whole movie. It's kind of hard to understand, and I'm in english honors, but i really cant comprehend some of the things he says to her.

  • I Love you most ardently!

my favorite scene in the world wide world!

  • He reminds me of a band member. lol.

  • sjkdfhkdjfsdh! I think my heart just died, broke into a million shards and died again~

  • well you must F**ing Handsome then!! you F***ing Idoit!!!!

  • You must F**ing Handsome then! You idoit!!!

  • he should have bent lizzy over the rail and done her right then and there!

  • best. scene. ever.

  • heart melting... GAHHH . MR.DARCY <3

  • The way he says most ardently kills me every time...sigh!

  • take a good looking guy and put him in the rain and it makes him look that much better

  • agreed. i kinda wissed they'd kiss not gonna lie..their chemistry and attraction was quite high.

  • agreed

  • @MissARSims yum yum

  • @MissARSims lol truee

  • oh my gosh, it looks like they r going to kiss......mr.darcy is so gorgeous <3.........i love the british accent

  • I love this part of the movie when he says he loves her, most ardently. *sigh* And then the almost kiss. *sigh* LOL :P The magnetism between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is amazing.

  • Kitty and Lydia are ridiculous.

  • oh my god, Darcy at 3:42.

    gorgeous.

  • at 3:46 it looks like theyre gonna kisss!! <3

  • Question: Why did Lady Catherine say that Mr. Collins couldn't sit next to his wife? Was that generally frowned upon, and if so, why?

  • @chichirismuse

In proper society husbands and wives (couples) do not sit together at the dinner table, this gives them the opportunity to get to know others and strike up a conversation with a stranger or a slight acquaintance.

  • i dont get it......aghggg..im confused...im so stupid...but they should totally be togetha!!!!!!!!!! oh did anyone notice, but here keira knightley is called elizabeth, and in pirates of the carribean she was also called elizabeth....XD shes so pretty

  • :43 is my favorite part in the whole movie, when he blurts out i love you :)

Nallie3 i totally agree, if anyone would take the time and read the book that would completely understand. he is not proud, he is just a misunderstood man in love. and anyone who disagrees is mistaken and need to read the book before making wrong assumptions.

  • the best part of this movie is when they are talking in the rain!

  • I miss chivalry.

  • This scene is 1000x better than any worthless sex scene. Mr. Darcy is just so tempting and shy for LOVE.

  • TRUE THAT!

I see it that way as well. :)

  • Colin Firth was chosen for his acting skills rather than for his looks. I think this guy was the opposite. He absolutely looks the part of Mr. Darcy, but he says his lines so monotonously that I wonder how people who aren't familiar with the story could follow it.

  • The first time I saw this movie, i understood it completely. I will admit Darcy's love for Lizzy is not portrayed as much but I must say that it would be impossible for even the most truly skilled actor to show the proudness and love of darcy. I think Matthew McFayden (the guy who plays Darcy) is doing an amazing job

  • ohmagod he was like about to kiss her omg then he said the madam thing and it was ruined

  • Yeah, it's obvious they both wanted it; but like Lunarlilly said earlier, it would've been considered scandalous, like a one-night-stand back in those days. Although a bit extreme, the pendulum of society's mores has swung way too far in the other direction now. It's pretty sad. At least in Austen's time people still knew the significance of a kiss, even if their reserve was too often driven by societal expectations/fear of censure rather than personal conviction.

  • There is no pride in that Mr. Darcy.

He is shy but I cannot see any pride in him. It is a pity for this is the whole point of the book. Colin Firth's Mr Darcy is just like he should be. I like him a lot more.

  • I completely agree.

I also think I prefer the Mr. Collins from the A & E version as well...if a Mr. Collins can be preferred. I really like that version. It's more like the book. But this is still pretty good, too. :)

  • Yeah. Actually, I found a lot of error in characterizations of this movie overall. The 1995 version is better in every way imh opinion.

  • I was thinking the same thing. They made this Mr. Darcy a misunderstood character, rather than a prideful man who learned how to be a better one from Lizzie. It rather defeats the point of the story.

  • But, in the book, Lizzie acknowledges that he never had any improper pride. He just was a bit cold.

  • in the book his rigidness was mistaken for pride, and his pride made him judge things wrongly

the same thing happens in the movie

where you find this glitch in this movie, I can't see...

  • i agree he is not proud, but this actor is perfect for the role in my opinion :)

  • Mr. Darcyyy (:

mygahhh hes got such gorgeous eyes (:

  • This film was the first thing I ever saw Matthew MacFadyen in. Now I search out anything I can find with him in it!

  • what's the matter with Kitty? I don't understand.

  • Kitty is upset because colonel foster's wife did not invite her to go to Brighton where there would be parties and balls with officers in military. Lydia is 2 years younger but was invited to be mrs. fosters particular guest. She was complaining that both of them should have been invited.

  • I think Darcy is a jerk for purposing to her like that if I had been Elizabeth I would have given the same answer I could never marry someone who loved me against his better judgment someone said that it was Elizabeth's prejudice and Darcy's pride but they both have a little of each and I think Elizabeth's pride may come off as prejudice

  • Setting the proposal scene outside in the rain is certainly romantic, but not very Austenian. I also think that the actor who played Darcy did not show enough of a gradual transformation of his feelings towards Elizabeth. The previous scene with the piano is when he is supposed to appear more human - in the book, he agrees with Elizabeth that he ought to practice being social and compliments her. This guy missed it, so when he says, "I love you," it's too abrupt.

  • oh i love mr. darcy!

  • people who are complain that the movie is different then the book, that's just it. it's a movie and not the book. its based off the book meaning they are not going to be the same. they change things and make them work in films. Pride and Prejudice the book is my favorite book of all time, but as a fan of the book i still love this movie. get over it. just watch and enjoy the movie for what it is. or if you hate it so much stop watching it. no one is forcing you.

  • My sentiments exactly. It's one thing to say "I like this better than that"...it's another to say "I hate this because it isn't exactly like the book or mini series". Would the world REALLY be better off without this movie? I wouldn't.

  • ok hes handsom, hes rich, but hes fought against his better judgement, EXCUSE ME? Jerk! i would definitely say no! how could anyone expect someone to accept them after they said something like that! again JERK

  • thats his way of saying i love you. thus pride and prejudice.

  • one of the major themes of the book is Elizabeth's prejudice and Darcy's pride. He's incredibly proud, but so overwhelmingly in love with Elizabeth that he is willing to go against his core beliefs. His pride has been one of the most important things in his life, but his love strong enough to overcome it. Still, it will take some adjustment, which is why he later says that her refusal, specifically the "had you behaved in a more gentlemen-like manner" part, made him realize he had to change

  • yes i am aware of this but still i think it was a bad move on his part. That is all i am saying.

  • haha, of course, because even though we know that he's really a good man, he's still been kind of a jerk up until now...what's beautiful about it is that he can change for the love of a good Bennet! lol

  • here here! :D

  • i like this version of pride and prejudice, but i think i like the original movie better. :)

  • Honestly i think that was a terrible proposal, i would say no too. He was rude and insulting.

  • Was their quarrel placed outside also in the book? I remember it was inside somewhere. Well, whatever.... I think the rain made the scene much more effective.

And, I think Keira Knightley looks different in different situations in the movie.

  • i wish ppl still talked like this

  • Me too...it's got so much more poise to it xD and sounds a whole lot cooler

  • I agree!! Besides, I think that if Pride and Prejudice didn't exist, Twilight wouldn't either, since Edward is so similar to Mr Darcy in so many ways...

  • I am a Twilight fan but you can NOT compare it with Pride & Prejudice! Pride & Prejudice is so much better than Twilight in every way!

  • Who you talking to?

  • CuteVampireBella is a dumb bimbo

  • Ha, I like how CuteVampireBella says "i know what dislike me means unliterat brat." It is just so detrimental to her argument, especially when she can't spell ILLITERATE...

  • Bobo?

  • Colonel? You know it!

  • Did you just randomly type your username?

  • I know, and it's so stupid. Doesn't make sense for that scene with such anger spewing out of Lizzie.

  • ahh damn he looks pissed when she talks about mr. wickham

  • Aww he looks so sad when she tells him she won't marry him at 3:42! And he's so cute when he tells her he loves her.

  • 0.33 What??? "I came to Rosings with the single object of seeing you." hahahah! How did he know she would be there? Wrong, wrong, wrong, because he did not know she would be there. What were they thinking, when they wrote these lines? 5:45 Lizzie stares into the camera for what looks like hours. Then Darcy somehow gets into the house and sneaks up on her to deliver his letter. Creepy! And stupid! Did he let himself in? Unannounced?

  • 1. his aunt aunt knew she was there and told him, it says so in the book if u want the page number tell me

    2. he doesnt sneak into the house he drops the letter off under the window, he opened the window ans left it there, the noise she heard was the window shutting

if u have any other questions/complaints dont hesitate to ask/complain

  • 1. Yes, thank you, I would like the page number as I don't remember that in the book.

    2. It is NOT in the movie like that. Darcy deffinately enters through the DOOR, and walks up behind Lizzie to place his letter. on the windowsill. Sorry, but it is creepy IMO. And it is completely different from the book.

  • Comment removed

  • from the beginning to 4:02 I absolutly melt, especially while they're arguing, and Mr Darcy keeps gettting frustrated. He also has the most beautiful eyes.

  • It looks like Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth want to kiss at the end of the argument from 3:47 to 3:54

  • yes! there is so much sexual tension in that scene.

His eyes are very expressive, she's strong for not throwing herself in his arms lol

  • lol, that's for sure! I would have done it in a heart beat XD

  • at 3:08 it really looks like darcy wants to kiss her....

  • His eyes are so pretty in this scene

  • dame it why do they only have 5 stars this part needs like 20 stars! ^_^
