Never has love been so evident in the way they are (almost) yelling at each other! Mr. Darcy wants to kiss her so badly that he can't contain himself, and Lizzie wants him to kiss her just as much. It is a slow, continuous, burning- a love that is simmering, and just needs that one simple thing to make it blaze- the realization that they DO love one another. So lovely!
i love how when he says "i love you" like he's been waiting to say it for such a long time and can't bear it any longer. so romantic. just watch the 1995 version of the proposal scene and compare it to this one. this one is SO MUCH BETTER!
i really wished she didnt yell like that. makes her looks that much less dignified and calm, in the book shes described as maintaining her composure and NOT yelling, here she just goes bezerk lol

Absolutely love the subtlety of Matthew MacFadyen's performance!! Colin Firth is an undeniably brilliant actor, this role included. But for me, Matt's interpretation adds an element of consistency to Darcy. He manages to walk the line between sweet, awkward woobie and proud, brooding prick perfectly imo--while he does shift, the viewer(& Lizzie)can find evidence for both throughout the whole movie. An extremely hard role to play because Darcy has to be so many things. This is a long comment..
boy does he kno how to charm a girl!! couldnt he have just started with i love you bcuz everything her said b4 00:40 was just mean rude and dat is not how you ask someone to marry you!!!
I love how Mr. Darcy turns his head at 2:36 showing his increasing exasperation at Lizzie's innocent stubbornness. It's rather funny considering he doesn't show much anger at all.
who's mr. Wickham compared to mr. Darcy? no one. mr. Darcy is so sweet, never thought he could have been selfish or something like that. I was about to cry when Lizzy told that she would never have married him.
I LOVE DARCY!!!!!!!!!! GOD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PUT SUCH A MAN IN MY PATH, EVEN IF HE'S HALF THE MAN DARCY IS, I WOULD STILL BE SOOOOOO VERY HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!! (wow i sound as i was from that period, lmao)
@Ilovetheoutsiders1 well yeah but he was kinda rude when he said he was asking her to marry him against his better judgement.......................i mean it's sweet that he defied all those people to marry her but if i was being proposed to like that im not sure i'd say yes
who can compare twilight with this novel?, pnp is a classic. Twilight though it describes the feelings of love better and less subtle than pnp, it cannot compare with the in depth content of pnp, twilight lacks so much, and can never compare.
This is my favorite scene in the whole movie. I didn't understand many of the words said and had to look them up later, but just by the way he looked at her was so sweet and you could tell she had hurt him very deeply by how he stared!
i dont get it lol...they were gonna kiss but then they were arguing like 2 seconds before it.....caught in the moment i guess??? hahaha i like d scene where she sees him in his mansion than this one though
Our Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth are AWESOME in this scene, but they could get a bit more if they watch the scene. They do almost kiss and those of us back stage are like o_o "Omg..."
this is my favorite scene in the whole movie. It's kind of hard to understand, and I'm in english honors, but i really cant comprehend some of the things he says to her.
I love this part of the movie when he says he loves her, most ardently. *sigh* And then the almost kiss. *sigh* LOL :P The magnetism between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth is amazing.
i had to use a headphone when i watch this video... i had to focus because i can't understand it clearly.. there's some words i don't know.. sometimes, i had to close my eyes in order to concentrate to understand the english better. it looks like that i'm hearing it, not watching it.. hahah.. must be great if somebody can provide subtittle for someone like me who's english is the 2nd language..

Nallie3 i totally agree, if anyone would take the time and read the book that would completely understand. he is not proud, he is just a misunderstood man in love. and anyone who disagrees is mistaken and need to read the book before making wrong assumptions.
Colin Firth was chosen for his acting skills rather than for his looks. I think this guy was the opposite. He absolutely looks the part of Mr. Darcy, but he says his lines so monotonously that I wonder how people who aren't familiar with the story could follow it.
The first time I saw this movie, i understood it completely. I will admit Darcy's love for Lizzy is not portrayed as much but I must say that it would be impossible for even the most truly skilled actor to show the proudness and love of darcy. I think Matthew McFayden (the guy who plays Darcy) is doing an amazing job
Yeah, it's obvious they both wanted it; but like Lunarlilly said earlier, it would've been considered scandalous, like a one-night-stand back in those days. Although a bit extreme, the pendulum of society's mores has swung way too far in the other direction now. It's pretty sad. At least in Austen's time people still knew the significance of a kiss, even if their reserve was too often driven by societal expectations/fear of censure rather than personal conviction.
He is shy but I cannot see any pride in him. It is a pity for this is the whole point of the book. Colin Firth's Mr Darcy is just like he should be. I like him a lot more.
I also think I prefer the Mr. Collins from the A & E version as well...if a Mr. Collins can be preferred. I really like that version. It's more like the book. But this is still pretty good, too. :)
I was thinking the same thing. They made this Mr. Darcy a misunderstood character, rather than a prideful man who learned how to be a better one from Lizzie. It rather defeats the point of the story.
Kitty is upset because colonel foster's wife did not invite her to go to Brighton where there would be parties and balls with officers in military. Lydia is 2 years younger but was invited to be mrs. fosters particular guest. She was complaining that both of them should have been invited.
I think Darcy is a jerk for purposing to her like that if I had been Elizabeth I would have given the same answer I could never marry someone who loved me against his better judgment someone said that it was Elizabeth's prejudice and Darcy's pride but they both have a little of each and I think Elizabeth's pride may come off as prejudice
Setting the proposal scene outside in the rain is certainly romantic, but not very Austenian. I also think that the actor who played Darcy did not show enough of a gradual transformation of his feelings towards Elizabeth. The previous scene with the piano is when he is supposed to appear more human - in the book, he agrees with Elizabeth that he ought to practice being social and compliments her. This guy missed it, so when he says, "I love you," it's too abrupt.
people who are complain that the movie is different then the book, that's just it. it's a movie and not the book. its based off the book meaning they are not going to be the same. they change things and make them work in films. Pride and Prejudice the book is my favorite book of all time, but as a fan of the book i still love this movie. get over it. just watch and enjoy the movie for what it is. or if you hate it so much stop watching it. no one is forcing you.
My sentiments exactly. It's one thing to say "I like this better than that"...it's another to say "I hate this because it isn't exactly like the book or mini series". Would the world REALLY be better off without this movie? I wouldn't.
ok hes handsom, hes rich, but hes fought against his better judgement, EXCUSE ME? Jerk! i would definitely say no! how could anyone expect someone to accept them after they said something like that! again JERK
one of the major themes of the book is Elizabeth's prejudice and Darcy's pride. He's incredibly proud, but so overwhelmingly in love with Elizabeth that he is willing to go against his core beliefs. His pride has been one of the most important things in his life, but his love strong enough to overcome it. Still, it will take some adjustment, which is why he later says that her refusal, specifically the "had you behaved in a more gentlemen-like manner" part, made him realize he had to change
haha, of course, because even though we know that he's really a good man, he's still been kind of a jerk up until now...what's beautiful about it is that he can change for the love of a good Bennet! lol
Was their quarrel placed outside also in the book? I remember it was inside somewhere. Well, whatever.... I think the rain made the scene much more effective.
And, I think Keira Knightley looks different in different situations in the movie.
I agree!! Besides, I think that if Pride and Prejudice didn't exist, Twilight wouldn't either, since Edward is so similar to Mr Darcy in so many ways...
Ha, I like how CuteVampireBella says "i know what dislike me means unliterat brat." It is just so detrimental to her argument, especially when she can't spell ILLITERATE...
0.33 What??? "I came to Rosings with the single object of seeing you." hahahah! How did he know she would be there? Wrong, wrong, wrong, because he did not know she would be there. What were they thinking, when they wrote these lines? 5:45 Lizzie stares into the camera for what looks like hours. Then Darcy somehow gets into the house and sneaks up on her to deliver his letter. Creepy! And stupid! Did he let himself in? Unannounced?
1. his aunt aunt knew she was there and told him, it says so in the book if u want the page number tell me
2. he doesnt sneak into the house he drops the letter off under the window, he opened the window ans left it there, the noise she heard was the window shutting
if u have any other questions/complaints dont hesitate to ask/complain
1. Yes, thank you, I would like the page number as I don't remember that in the book.
2. It is NOT in the movie like that. Darcy deffinately enters through the DOOR, and walks up behind Lizzie to place his letter. on the windowsill. Sorry, but it is creepy IMO. And it is completely different from the book.
from the beginning to 4:02 I absolutly melt, especially while they're arguing, and Mr Darcy keeps gettting frustrated. He also has the most beautiful eyes.
So lovely!

Jerk! i would definitely say no! how could anyone expect someone to accept them after they said something like that! again JERK

thats his way of saying i love you. thus pride and prejudice.

one of the major themes of the book is Elizabeth's prejudice and Darcy's pride. He's incredibly proud, but so overwhelmingly in love with Elizabeth that he is willing to go against his core beliefs. His pride has been one of the most important things in his life, but his love strong enough to overcome it. Still, it will take some adjustment, which is why he later says that her refusal, specifically the "had you behaved in a more gentlemen-like manner" part, made him realize he had to change

yes i am aware of this but still i think it was a bad move on his part. That is all i am saying.
ThroughTheDarkness13 2 years ago
haha, of course, because even though we know that he's really a good man, he's still been kind of a jerk up until now...what's beautiful about it is that he can change for the love of a good Bennet! lol

Honestly i think that was a terrible proposal, i would say no too. He was rude and insulting.

TottenhamCourtRoad9 2 years ago
I am a Twilight fan but you can NOT compare it with Pride & Prejudice! Pride & Prejudice is so much better than Twilight in every way!

I know, and it's so stupid. Doesn't make sense for that scene with such anger spewing out of Lizzie.

Aww he looks so sad when she tells him she won't marry him at 3:42! And he's so cute when he tells her he loves her.

Unannounced?
bocatsmom 2 years ago
1. his aunt aunt knew she was there and told him, it says so in the book if u want the page number tell me
2. he doesnt sneak into the house he drops the letter off under the window, he opened the window ans left it there, the noise she heard was the window shutting
if u have any other questions/complaints dont hesitate to ask/complain
CuteVampireBella 2 years ago

It looks like Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth want to kiss at the end of the argument from 3:47 to 3:54
