  • what are the words!!? I remember him so well sing ! He who goes..et he who stays"...but I never ever got the rest of it! - I would so love to know!!

    Brendan

  • nice melody but feels very heavy at the end, like an hymn ...though better than silly Abba...

  • @brenhove Go to diggiloo.net /?1974.mc

  • J'adore cette chanson elle est superbe, je dois dire que si la France avait participé cette année là, c'est surement monaco qui aurait gagner !!!!!!

  • This is just beautiful...For me the thrue winner that 1974 was Gigliola Cinquetti not abba...

  • i like this very much but with france pulling out it lost a bunch of votes from the french jury

  • it sounds slightly old fashioned as well, which held it back in the scoring i think

  • MAGNIFIQUE!!!

  • watch Romuald Figuiers homepages

  • The Abba's victory in fact was so undeserved, "Waterloo" is not their best songs , it's only easy-hearing stuff and an extremely poor song as for music abd lyrics.

This song but even more "Si" (Gigliola Cinquetti) clearly deserved the victory, but you know , expecially the nordic countries have a little music knowledge and rude tastes, so ....

  • Busseto, The Nordic States Are Known for

their Good Neighbor's Policy. The worst of

all is Norway which cheated in 1963 and

altered their votes that made Denmark the

    winner.

This year Norway won again with that

rubbish song. I wonder if they did not

cheat? There was no amplifier wire

    connected to the Performer. Rubbish

    Song and Performance!

  • One of the best songs to emerge from Eurovision 1974. This message of this

melancholic song is painfully sharp to

    senses-in every relationship that failed,

there is always a Loser, the one who stays

and a Winner who is leaving with a new love.

  • This is one of the best songs from 74 and much better than ABBA but in fact everything is better than ABBA ;)

  • This is my favourite song from 1974. As you mentioned, it was also from the composer of Un Banc, Un Arbre et Une Rue. Even the choral format was similar but in reversed because the main performer was a male with four female back up singers. Even the orchestral arragement was very beautiful with full harmony from the back up singers. Sadly, it finished only third on that fateful evening. Sad songs barely wins in ESC with some exceptions especially Merci Cherie.
  • it finished 4th equal

  • I adore this song! Romuald had the best and most powerful voice of Eurovision 1974. The orchestration is very powerful too. It was composed by Jean-Pierre Bourtayre who composed Monaco's 1971 winner "Un banc, un arbre, une rue". (similar style, aren't they?) The 1974 songs were generally very high quality. Does anyone know if it's possible to get CDs of Romuald these days?

  • As far I know, there is no CD of Romuald.

  • Great performance and great song!

Representative and powerful. Very ESC :)

  • Aadnesen,

Please do not forget Irene Sheer performed with a group in 1985. So you could not

compare it with the record of Romulald.

We are talking here as a single artist!

Udo Jürgens also performed thrice but only

    for one country.

  • Monaco is back but like other states, they no longer produce good songs. I like the melody of this song especially the instrumentation.

  • Monaco 1974

    Luxemburg 1969

    UK

    Sweden

    I like netherlands

  • great song

  • He looks like Bryan Ferry

  • Great song. Is it just me, or does Romuald look a bit like Bryan Ferry?

  • Romuald is still alive about 65 years old. He is nationality is French and holds the record of the only singer to represent two countries and participated in three Eurovision Song Contest. Monaco 1964 Luxemburg 1969 Monaco 1974 Although this song is melancholic, it is my favorite from the 1974 contest.
  • That is not true. Ireen Sheer represented Luxembourg in 1974 and Germany in 1977, and so Luxembourg again i 1985. So Romuald is not the onsly one.

  • He is half Italian, half Tunesian, a nephew of Achille Zavatta. As Tunesia was a French colony, he's got a French passport.

  • Indeed at the end of an affair, one is winner and one is a loser.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time. Thank you for posting this one.

Does anyone know anything about the singer. Is he still singing today? And what is his true nationality?
