@gmanhell94 hey in all fairness, kirk hammett is a good guitarist. he's far better than the average player. the solos in 'wherever i may roam', 'dont tread on me', 'enter sandman', 'one', 'creeping death' and 'leaper messiah' demonstrate that he's a smart player who knows how to structure a solo with a beginning, middle and end with melodic and memorable passages. And just because something isn't tough to play doesn't mean its not good. Just look at Jerry Cantrell and David Gilmour's solos..

For the person who is always trying to be the best and seeing music competitively then speed will always be a main priority. So will funny modes and scales like phrygian, dorian, locrian, and minors with raised 7ths. It's not that I can't grasp technique and theory. I want some feeling.

It sounded out of tune... but awesome. And I have a pretty much identical picking style, but mine is for a retarded reason. When I used to play Guitar Hero, I had to bend my wrist under the whammy bar because I would flip the guitar over because I'm lefthanded. So when I switched to real guitar I adopted my same style and it has worked fucking great for me haha, I love Marty, and he's amazing haha.

I really doubt Kirk can play anything Marty can - Hammett has shown very little evidence of real shredding ability or sweeping. He's good at the hammer/pull off licks that have become his trademark, but thats about all.

He's also terrible at staying in key.

Some of his earlier solos are real classics because his style was new then, but rehashing the same style for 25 years gets boring.

I'd like to point out, wealth has nothing to do with instrumental ability.

My take on it is, Metallica are probably famous more for Hetfield's riffing and vocals, than the solos.
