(continued) ready before you get there is plain stupid in my book. What are you going to do when you get there, tell the trapped person "oh well you have to wait a litte longer in there sir I'm not ready yet." As far as who taught this, well I guess you better get on the phone with the county training grounds and tell them they're doing it all wrong. Just because youre "Big City" I assume you know it all. I think I'm done for now...
Thanks. And that is correct, you can have the mask on and your air cylinder turned on but still not have to breath air. You only start breathing air once you plug the regulator into the mask
Yes we just recently got these for our apparatus. It is basically like a GPS system but with a couple more features. It tells you exactly where you are and the best route to get to the call. Also tells you where all the hydrants are located. If you type in an intersection or house adress because of a HazMat situation it will also show you the diameter of the area we will need to evacuate. These computers are very helpful. All fire depts. should look into getting them
Yes they are very helpful. We are also looking into a system that has the capability to tie into a local law enforcement on line instant message system. Its good for getting information that is not put out over the radio traffic. A little bit more secure information too.
Yea the police depts. here in berks county Pa have MCT's in their cars so a lot if information about the calls are sent over them instead of over the radios, which is nice because it definatly cuts down on the radio traffic
i think the driver needs to keep his hands off the mic and have them on the wheel..another safty issue, i like how he held it to his mouth to make it look like he was talking going past the line of cars in the beginning.
there's a diference between a driver trying to handle a 2 ton police car, and a driver handling a 20 ton fire truck. your not supose to ware or keep your helmet in the cab anymore either..yet police keep loaded shot guns inside there cars...
Your right. The cops shouldn't keep loaded shot guns. They should just tell the guys shooting at them to hold on a minute while they load their shotgun. Also, the driver was obviously talking into the radio. What's your problem with the officer wearing his helmet?
i didn't say they shouldn't have them in thier cars..that and the fire helmets was an example. i don't have a problem with waring helmets in an truck but NFPA does : The new NFPA 1901, 2009 Revision says that fire helmets should not be worn while riding in an apparatus.
I can't disagree with you on this one, no the driver should not be talking on the radio while driving. As far as not wearing your helmet in the rig, the driver wasn't wearing a helmet, the officer was to the best of my knowledge. Please explain any other issues yous may see and I'm sure I can come up with answers for you.
well idk, dont u think just jumpion off the rig with masks on air is stupid
1. waste of air
2. saftey concerns
3. knowing what ur running into before u just run into it idk all i see is small departments do this no major cities including my dept just retarded in my opionin
I'm pretty sure the new SCBAs don't require you to have air running when you have your mask on. Therefor, you can have your mask on while not wasting air.
Please explain to me how it's a waste of air by packing up while enroute, you really need to enlightin me on this one. Safety concerns other then limited visibilty when getting off the apparatus is the only one I can think of, please also explain this one to me. As far as knowing what you're running into there's always an officer on scene in POV or a chiefs vehicle before any apparatus arrives giving orders so you need to explain this to me even more. As far as not packing up and being...
The rear jump seats are engineered to seat a fully suited Fireman in (relative) comfort. They wouldn't build the F'n truck that way if you weren't supposed to be ready. Plus I've found that letting the mask warm up to body temp cut's down on fog ups later. Idk, maybe I'm just retarded like that guy says.
Its called protocall. Plus you know how much time it saves by packing up and turning on your cylinder on the truck. That way when you get off the only thing you have to worry about is plugging in and pulling the line. Some companies just do it different.
Notice none of the oncoming traffic pulling over?

Way to ruin a possible great video by putting on some NOISE that some may consider music. Sirens are the sweetest song in the fire service. One star.

No, he was talking if you notice, you hear static before he talks, not during, and after he talks.
What about PDs, especially ones that run single officers, should they just not use their radios while runnung code?

you're right about nfpa and not wearing the helmet in the truck, but the nfpa is just "guidelines" some people still dont follow what they say.

Every truck I've EVER been in had cut out seats for the exact purpose of being ready BEFORE you get there.
