yes, they take either two 12a's or 13b's and custom make an eccentric shaft big enough to fit all four rotors on and join it up. A dude in NZ sells a kit to make a 4 rotor engine.

20B is a three rotor, the hardest part about the 4 rotor is making the custom eccentric shaft, and that one part alone usually costs ten grand, the other expensive part is you have to notch the firewall to fit the motor.

that "shaft in the middle" is called the eccentric shafy. Most racers buy 4 rotor engines, they are to hard to build on your own.

This car has two 13b's made into 1 engine with a custom built e-shaft, and i don't know anyone outside of Mazda-Speed that can even get a hold of an actual 4 rotor engine. I think you're talking about the 20b, 3 rotor engine that most people buy for racing.

belive it or not there is a few garages around the US that fabricate 4 rotor engines, most racers dont have the parts or the time to build a4 rotor, so they get it fabricated, there is a rotary garage in my city that makes 4 rotor engines.

And yes I DO know what I'm talking about because I toyed with the idea of a 4 Rotor before I sold my RX7 because I wanted a sports car that gets better than 20mpg on the highway...lol.

But yes, it IS only about 20-25K depending on who you commission to do the eccentric shaft machine work. Yashiro Iron works in japan already sells a 4 rotor eccentric shaft...$9000 USD.
