Well this is my 6th year playing the flute, but I am no where near this good. I was in a church quartet, and was just amazed at how good the tonguing is. I bet you guys spend most of your day on this stuff and months upon months to get the tonguing as near perfect as possible... Wish I could here more then just what is here on youtube of y'all.
@Baruchyoseph8 I'd assume its a natural thing that happens when one is heavily engaged in the music; ie. musicality. It could also be a cultural/traditional thing, rooting from a previous generation's musicality.
@Baruchyoseph8: I'd add to ToulBoi's that there are teachers like Trevor Wye who dislike this. I think there are technical reasons as well as cultural. The flute is difficult to articulate, requires an awkward body position and is the only wind instrument with no resistance to breath. Notice the great articulation these folks achieve: part is surely the physical energy we see here. Movement can compensate a bit. See Jen Cluff on this: search "jen cluff moving playing".
Wow!! that's super nice,,, is there a way i can get the sheet music for this arrangement?? i have a flute quartet concert coming up and need some music. Will you send me if you can?? thanks
This was NOT scored for hornpipes, but for a whole baroque orchestra! "Hornpipe" is what you call a piece written in a special type of rhytm that was typical for old hornpipe-melodies. "Alla hornpipe" is italian and could be directly translated into "in the manner of the hornpipe".
This is a piece of art! First time i hear ir with a quartet of flutes and it's simply wonderfull, delighfull! !! Do you have other pieces published? Hope this tune can be listen by many others! Cheers from Rio, Brazil...
The sound quality here is excellent, seemingly effortless and coming out of nowhere . . . or out of the ether. The lack of extraneous air in the tones is commendable.
I have to transcribe this piece for classical guitar for a wedding, and am doing it by ear (cuz it's in a good key). I'm using your version exclusively. It definitely rocks!
You guys rock! make me wanna play quartet again! To the flute player in red: I like how you are so at ease with your movements and bodily gestures. :)
I don't think they hit a wrong note, I think the arranger actually wrote the wrong note. It's leading into A but they play an A7 . . . or something. You're right, it doesn't sound correct.
guys, just to let you know. all the bobbing up and down. it is to get movement on the piece and for show. but it also serves to cue the others the tempo, entrance, and dynamics. it does have a function
Lisaflute, I was just thinking that. In my High School band I would always get mad at my fellow flutist that couldn't sit still. Too distracting from the entire band. I always sat still. :]
Along with the excellent sound, the background fits very nicely to create a pleasant atmosphere. I too, am a flutist and I hope to one day develop my playing into this! Brilliant!
wow thatcwas amazing i relly liked it, flute is beautiful, i am flutist and i think you guys are great great i am starting with my classes.. i would like to be just like u
im very curious is there a baroque flute part for this. I play flute and piccolo, im starting a flute choir in my high school. I really want to be like u guys, i like how there is one guy, because im the only guy also, im first chair flute/piccolo.

You just can play this on flutes. The music loses its whole nobility. Theres a reason Handel score for hornpipes.
MrPfund 2 years ago
that's why it's called an arrangement. Derr. Is refreshingly different.

Strange, at 0:53 they play a different tone, than the Orfeus Orchestra, I'm quite certain they hit a wrong note.
