  • In the wind tunnel at CCNS I found that if I rotated my hips backward then sat on the saddle my back was flatter and created less drag

  • Yeah, yeah... easy to say if someone is 'dimension'. I have leg as a 1,9m man and my trunk is from 1,7m man ;( I've got serious problem with selection of ideal bike

  • Good video, I did a timetrial last weekend and I indeed felt that I generated not enough power from my hips because I was in a to deep position.Also I'm trying to tighter my elbows.

  • well that isen't a good tt position.. for tt you should well be almost over your frontwheel if your skilled enough to be comfortable there.. but no sweat.. :D he's got some good basic tips :P also i suppose this is for a triathlon then.

  • this is a good video, although i think some of the things said are slightly out of date. Bjorn Sindballe did his iroman leg with a 6" drop, and i'm not entirely sure an open elbow angle reduces power. The 4k TT and 1 hour WR were set in the superman position.

  • I use this position when cycling to work. Very comfortale and even relaxing! Don't be too technical about it is my opinion. Make shure is comfortable for YOU!.

    I have the saddle tilted forward to give the nuts some space. In the beginning your nek will hurt from keeping your head up. Start with short rides and build up slowly.

  • It is called an aero bar. It puts you in a position where you increase aerodynamics and make you perform better as you slice through the air without too much drag.

  • then why don't road racers use them as much?

  • it is not a very comfortable position unless you train yourself on it. it is not meant to be used for long periods of time. Like Lance, when he does the Time Trials, he uses a time trial bike w/c is equipped w/ an aero bar. If you are cycling w/ a whole bunch of group, this could be dangerous as you easily will lose control of your bike when other bikers bump you. For long distances, being on the down bar is good enough as you can draft behind someone to conserve energy & perform better.

  • Triathlons don't allow drafting. So, instead of being able to tuck in behind someone in a group ride you have to cut through the wind on your own. Also, group rides won't regularly allow Aero's because you lose alot of handling quickness and can be dangerous as already mentioned. Benchmarking goes, if you can do 18 mph on the hood, 20 on the drops, if you add aeros you can do 22 all else equal. I've tested it and it is pretty close. On 20-112 mile bike it makes a difference.

  • Very good demonstration, that gives me a few pointers I can work on to increase my strength and flexibility without too much strain. I suffer from lower back problems naturally so this vid might help postpone those pains for a few extra miles :)

  • aero bars a a nice complement to a road bike for a new triathlete, but not definitely not necessary

  • Unless you are only interested in triathlons I'd say road bike (UCI approved) with aerobars attached. Then you can do both road racing and triathlon. A lot of tri specfic bikes aren't UCI approved and it limits you on what you can do on the bike.
