Those EQ settings aren't far off being correct but your EQ cuts are a little harsh, what about compression etc? If you were to get a better parametric eq this would also help you zone in on troublesome frequencies and cut better.
If you want to record straight to a computer, you will need an audio interface. I recomend the TASCAM US-1641. I just bought it and it is really good. You can record up to 14 (8 xlr & 6 jacks) inputs simultaneously. This means u can record kick, snare, Tom 1 etc on their individual tracks. It is around £200 but it is worth the money and comes with Cubase LE5. Check it out.
Hey, one more question. If I get this program, how would I record it with a different equalizer mix for each drum? When I record through my mixer to my computer it records the entire kit in one track for me to later edit the equalizer of. How could I either preset the equalizer to each mic before recording or record each mic to a different track in one take? Thanks for your time!
@turquoiseguy you need a audio interface that put your mics indenpendant( one mic per track) how it work is that you take every out put of your mic and you plug it in the input of the audio interface and the audio interface is plugged with usb ou firewire in your cumputer so then you can record with 8 track(the number of your mic)

rather then spending all that money on a hard disk recorder. Why didn't you just buy an interface and record direct to your computer then run software like Reaper?
Because buying a license for such softway, you pay hundreds of dollars. Besides, you can do a lot more with that harddisk recorder. I also use it with my band to record our live concerts.
Actually, it still does. A long time ago i recorded with a friend of mine the kickdrum with this microphone but every time with a different angle. (Facing to the front, to the top, to the bottom, to the right, to the left, in front of the kickdrum, inside the kickdrum and the result was that with facing this microphone towards the top, it has the best sound. I'm still using it this way.
Hey.. I have a question. i want to change my toms heads 12-13-16 and its the first time that im going to do that cause i dont like the sound that the kit heads do. so i would like to know if the Evans Ec2 sounds great as yours even if i dont have microphones and equalizers and all that stuff.. and i would like to know if it is necessary to change the reso heads of my toms.. or just the batter.¿? hope you can aswer me.. thanks and wow your sound is awesome.. =-O
Let me tell you that apart from the bassdrum and the snare, you might use more the overheads on the mix, remember that they're not designed only for the cymbals in a recording situation, and it will give you more natural sound that could help you a lot with the tom-toms -specialy the floor toms- which ones sounds too compressed for the EQ that you choosen...
Hey, how do I import the tracks from my Presonus firepod to magix music maker because It won't let me import more than one track I have no idea how to use the software lol.
I think he has good sounds, but it sounds sort of like 80's drums. at the very end with the cymbals. i think he deadens the drums a little to much though.
how do you record each individual mic with magix music maker? instead of it all being into one thing. sorry im not good at explaining this problem. but please help! (:
You're going to need to record with seperate mics going into different channels, if you just route all the mics into 1 channel there is no way you'll be able to seperate them. This setup here has 8 mic's going into an external harddisc recorder with 8 XLR inputs for the mics, that records it to 8 seperate tracks (or same one if you really want)
You can then simply export all the seperate tracks via usb to the computer, and then import them to different channels in the program.
Yeah i know. Some people are spending thousands of dollars on they car, or their house or whatever and some people (like me) spend it on their instruments.
Like the video says, some of those mics i use are mid-budget (like the overheads, kick and snare mics) and some are low-budget like the tom-mics.
Those tom-mics where part of a low-budget 8-piece microphone set which costed about $300 including a kick, snare, 3 tom, 1 hihat and 2 overhead-microphones. I used that set in my older drumvideo's.
Those EQ settings aren't far off being correct but your EQ cuts are a little harsh, what about compression etc? If you were to get a better parametric eq this would also help you zone in on troublesome frequencies and cut better.

It's not just a recorder, it's a complete studio.

i hope that the positioning of the kick mic didnt stay that way... it's facing the top of the bass drum shell. Eek!

no i cant ... there stands channel one input 1&2 and 3&4 and so on .... and i cant record all together i can just click on 1 channel
o0metalrecords0o 2 years ago
plz make a video about your snare tuning and the snare heads you use plzzzz!
esposrafy 2 years ago
What we usually do is 2 overhead mics and the kick for live recordings, and then mix/eq that later (all guitars/vocals miced seperately)

do you use that kind of rings for the toms?
what heads u use on the toms do you recomend pinstripes??
esposrafy 2 years ago
Yeah, except from the 10" tom.
On the 10" tom i have a Remo Pinstipe
On the 12" a Pearl Stock head
And on the 14" and 16" Evans EC2 Clear

Nope, only a little piece of tape on the snaredrum
Schneider1988 2 years ago
How much do those microphones and recording system cost?
thefuzzypurpleball 2 years ago
The recorder was about $900
The 2 overheads $400, the kickdrum mic $200
the Shure SM57 $130 and the tom-mics about $40 each.
Schneider1988 2 years ago
WOW! That is a lot of money, it will take me like 9 years for me to get that much
