@Drac39 Yes Robin was originally to be seen as shown above, however when Waters was hired to rewrite Sam's script he decided to revamp what he thought was a worthless character and instead of a white boy who loses his parents in an accident (Dick Grayson) or discovers Batman's ID just by paying attention to the local news (TIm Drake) Richard was a black mechanic with R on the back of his overalls who helps Batman by fixing the Batmobile. He was then dropped due to an abundance of characters
@SupremeCommander85 The toy was in the prototype process long before Robin was retooled into his garage machanic Marlon Wayans. This originally was how the character was to be on the screen.
@SupremeCommander85 To further clarify Robin was redesigned by Neal Adams to warm fans to a modern Robin appearing in the next Batman film. The revamp was extraordinarily popular and WB ordered Robin in the sequel with this costume when Waters was hired by Burton to rewrite the script he removed all the familiar aspects of Robin and removed the costume entirely, before Robin was dropped. Kenner had already finished their prototype and was in the process of mass production when word came out...
@trans8010 So instead of losing money they decided to release the figure anyway either to diverse the line or since Tim Drake had become a favorite with fans Kenner believed the figure would sell with collectors.
I remember having this figure as an kid. I have a funny story to getting this. I accidentally got a bunch of artic batmans for my birthday so my mom took me to toysrus and exchanged them for the figures i wanted, as well as Robin.
OMG awesome! I've got this fig, had it for ages, and had no idea which collection it was from, been wondering about that very thing - mine is minus the cape, but there's no mistaking the New Kids on the Block hairdo, lol
Was Robin in any of the original Daniel Waters Batman Returns screenplay drafts?

I'm surprised the figure wasn't black considering Marlon Wayans was supposed to play him.

that body was reused for the animated series robin with a different head and color. hence, there's no show accurate btas robin figure ever released.
