Without a doubt (in my mind, anyway), Billy Crystal was the greatest Pyramid player of them all. Did you see his reaction after the final clue? In the most calm way...
"Got it." A nod, a smile and a handshake like a boss. Classic.
Billy Crystal had the perfect demeanour for this show because although he could be hilarious when the clues he had to give were conducive to that,he was intense as well.
Hmm....I don't watch Leno but I was going through as many Crystal clips as I could (looking for a laugh) and came across the Leno vid that brought me here, it's a vicious cylce haha.
Another Leno fan here. Doesn't look like this is the right clip, though. Dick Clark refers to the "right one" here, so it had to happen earlier. I'll keep looking.
@missypsj ... and you could see Crystal mouthing the word "twenty-six" when Dick made his slip up... Crystal did it in 26 seconds that first time, not 28 like Dick said. But Crystal was gracious enough to not show up the host by correcting him. Class guy, Billy Crystal. Love them both.
Well of course everyone saw this from Leno, and he did it in 31 seconds or with 29 seconds left, I dont know where he got 26 seconds. LOL but still a good clip, love GSN!
Dick Clark was the perfect host and Crystal was a great player. Clark was always professional. He treated the game with respect and behaved as if what happened was important (rightfully so). And the audience went along with it. Now, most hosts treat their games as silly jokes, which ruins the sense of competition. Regis Philbin is a rare exception.
I totally agree. Just look at the new 20Q show on game show network. I hate how Cat Deely the host is always joking around with te voice of 20Q. I hate how game show hosts today waste lots of time talking with their guest hosts and thats why they always have to wait till next show to finish up or rush to get things done at the end of their shows.
Good point. It seems like today's hosts would learn from those who are considered the best of all time: Richard Dawson, Dick Clark, Gene Rayburn, Pat Sajak, Regis Philbin, etc. They all entertained the audience while also understanding that for the contestants, the game was a big deal and could drastically affect their lives. It's a delicate balance but it's the same reason that some reality hosts are really good and others are terrible.
exactly! I am glad somebody shares my views about game shows. Reality shows for me r basically the same thing. Just look at VH1. all their game shows r either about love or based off other people from reality shows they already had. That's why I dont watch deal or no deal anymore cuz once the million dollars was won the fun was taken out of it.
@jksonny You're right.Dick Clark took his hosting duties on Pyramid very seriously because it's pretty much his nature as it is,but has the dry sense of humour as well.

Clark's wrong; Billy Crystal's record-setting time was 26 seconds, not 28.
Woohoo5241 2 years ago
@Woohoo5241 He Dick Clark was only 2 seconds off and it could have been just a momentary lapse.I'm sure he realized that after he saw it aired.

@bigweezey Today's game shows bite the big one!!!Well, they're basically just called reality shows in this modern era.

About time this version returned to GSN after 5 long years (even if it was 1982-1983 episodes, and just for a marathon).

There was another marathon on 12/31/07 with $100K.
