Also, are you using an emulator + keyboard? Or an actual amiga with a terrible joypad or something? It seems rather too fast, and you're having awful trouble with the (clacky) controls that suggest it's only taking one input at a time. Get a proper joystick on the original machine & it may get easier.
Keep throttle pegged forwards at *almost* all times, just steer with the diagonals - and REMEMBER TO SHIFT UP AT 160K AND BACK DOWN IMMEDIATELY WHEN YOU CRASH! :-)
blimmey this game still looks great even today, the graphics looks really impressive. although it looks like a tricky game and i don't know if i ever played this ?
I remember playing this on the Speccy but never played the Amiga version. To be honest this look kind of jerky when you are turning left and right. I don't if that is caused by having the up as accelerate but I find games that used this method were tricky to control at the best of times. Still great to see this in action and the Amiga version certainly seems colourful.
That didn't look bad at all Steve, I was pretty impressed with the cartoon looking graphics, from the beginning of the vid till the end you were getting pretty good! lol, nice one at the end, "that was my shhh.........legendary gameplay". I thought you were going to say it there for a second.
Could you imagine anybody looking up @ that map in the corner while racing/driving this game?LOL It's not the kinda map where you go, "I'm coming to a chicane, I better start looking for my breaking points". LMAO
The Amiga and the C64 version aren't that much different actually. I guess that just shows how good the C64 port of it was.
I played this a lot back in the day - the C64 version mostly. Later on the ST and the Amiga versions as well. Great Arcade game. I think I am just as good as you are at it Steve! LOL
This plays way too fast than it should (are U running it on your 68060?). I loved this game on the ST (Got an Amiga later). But since I'm a bit colour blind I had a wee bit trouble sorting out the flags. But it was still great fun.
@THOMASSU63 It is on my 060, but when I look at vids of it running on "normal" Amigas, it doesn't seem hugely faster. Definitely not in the same way that XJ220 was.
@cloudskipa I've looked at a couple of videos of it running on "normal" Amigas, and it doesn't seem hugely faster. Definitely a bit quicker, but not in the same way that XJ220 was.
there it is.. the legendary buggy boy with my legendary shhhhhhhhhhhh... LOL classic Steve! Looks like a fun game for sure, the controls may be something to get used to huh? and that water?? DAMN!! that look hard. Nice footage as always :)
Like a couple of games I've played recently, this is probably slightly harder than it needs to be, coz of the hyper speed of my CPU. Not as extreme as Jaguar XJ220 was, but still a little brisk.
@markvergeer I knew you or another of my friends will reply to this message eventually. It was one of my favorite games for the Commodore 64, even if I wasn't that good at it.
Buggy Boy is an arcade conversion. The arcade version has bigger sprites, but the Amiga version is really good.
The game urges the player to take risks - and to not be scared of doing crazy jumps etc... Once you go with the flow, you'll realise it's not that tough, and it's really fun.
It's a classic game. The C64 version is also good.
this occupies a strange and lofty position in my arcade and home computing memory. This version looks so damned good. Bloody hell I still can't quite work out how the Amiga managed to churn out such flipping brilliant graphics!! Mind you I don't know the difference between one bit and 64...
It's fiendish how you have to slow down to get the time flags, id end up racing past everything, a simple yet addictive little game. i just think this version is pipped to the post by the C64 version, the sound/music/gameplay (not so much the gfx :) works a bit better than the Amiga version, even with it's improvements. Still a great version though.
GOD DAMNIT STEVE!! Will you stop sneaking into my house while I'm out & pinching my games!? Seriously, you are literally going through my disk box with your recent videos. XD
This reminds me of an arcade game I played when I was a kid. It looked nearly identical to this and was called Speed Buggy. I think Data East were the ones that did that one.
This blew me away back in the day.
Absolutely loved this game.
Weirdly relaxing.
Thanks for all your trips down memory lane.
Now I have to get myself an emulator. My 1200 was stolen from the attic about 6 years ago.

This is indeed legendary. I think it was the first racing game I played on the ST when I was about 8.

@DLiberator78 The turning response is a bit "sharp", but I think it's something you'd get used to with practice.
Umm... wait... what is this practice of which I speak?

Looks like a pretty decent arcade style of game which are the type of racing games i enjoy. Great video once again my friend.

That collision animation is brilliant. Rarely do cars actually *trip* on things.

Loved this game on the arcade. The controls make things very awkward, up to accelerate is awkward. Moves fast as well.

Up to go forwards works fine on a keyboard and a D-Pad - it's just joysticks and analogue-sticks that have an issue...

@DdlyHeadshot I was using a D-pad, and still didn't like it. I'm probably that contrary that I'd prefer it on a stick.
