  • Is that tv stand from ikea?...if so, i have the same one :D

  • Hey , love your setup. I wanted to know if you ever tried sagetv with that placeshifter thing to access your media from outside your home network. Do you have any idea if this will work with multiple tuner cards? Would like to have two cards, one for home and one for when im on the road. A little hard to try it out without spending a shit ton of money so any help is appreciated.

  • I have dish network and I get video lag because of it... Ie: I change the channel and then 4-5 seconds later it comes up on sage... Ideas?

  • @pspheaven 4-5 second lag isn't so bad... with the firewire and the STB I have, I need to create an 8 second delay to get 100% recording accuracy. Any shorter, and I occassionally get a record error. Small price to pay in my opinion!

  • hi i want to do this same type of thing. What is the setup you used to change the channels? Are you using a usb-uirt? Also, is setup for the tv guide over the internet. (enter were you live and service provider for example?)

  • @ahmadhattia I am using a usb-uirt, but that is only to receive commands from my TV remote to control the software. The channel changing is done through firewire. The TV guide is built into the SageTV software, and yes, you simply enter your city and choose your provider, quite simple.

  • i want to do this same thing that you have going here. What is your setup to change the channels. Do you have a usb ir blaster?

  • @grahamknights: can you explain a bit more about how your Media Center is controlling your hd cable box? is this done with firewire? do the rogers boxes have a firewire port too? Is it possible to do something similar with MCE+Rogers and/or SageTV+Rogers? Any info's appreciated!

  • @Den39482 Hey, I oughtta check my email more often... I am using firewire to change channels and to capture the video stream from the cable box... I am not sure if the boxes Rogers uses have that capability, my provider is Shaw. What will work if you don't have a a firewire port is the HD-PVR, which I have on backup in case any of the channels become encrypted.

  • very cool. i'm using sagetv on my home theater too. i'm doing it from a laptop though. i got a new dual core lappy a couple years ago. it replaced my rather old dell inspiron 5000e laptop, which i decided to recycle by turning it into my HTPC machine.

it's pretty old, only a 700 MHz pentium 3 but it's proven to be easily powerful enough to handle sage. it runs very smoothly.

  • Thanks I wanted to see what Sage looks like.

Menus and such seem to be workable. Have you stuck with it, or switched over to a different software?

  • I've stuck with it for about 3 or 4 years now... No reason to change - tried earlier versions of other software, but none has as much 3rd party support for plug-ins, etc. Definitely a lot of constant development with the software. Runs flawlessly for me!

  • cool, thanks

  • Are you using a firewire interface to the cable/sat receiver? Or IR? Who do you have service through, and did you have any compat. issues with the receiver and Sage? Are your tuning times (channel changes) typical? Thanks, looks great! Considering a Samsung myself (what series BTW)? Cheers!

  • Yep, using firewire to capture/change channels from the cable box (Shaw Cable in Canada). Took a bit of tinkering to get it working 100% - the only kink is that it takes 8 seconds to pull off a successful channel change on the digital box (channel changes using PCI tuner cards are 2-3 seconds). Channel changing isn't such a big issue, since I don't watch a lot of live TV (pre-record almost everything!). The TV I have is the LN46A550, absolutely love it.

  • Just do a google search for Dinovo mini

  • Whats the remote? i cant find it on logitech's website

  • Why do u have the cable box and htpc?

  • The cable box is needed to tune in the HD channels, and the HTPC is the recording unit. The PVR's available from the cable co's are crap in comparison in terms of features and looks.

  • What HTPC case is that??

  • It's an Nmediapc 200SA case

  • Dude please reply, what tv tuner are u useing and how easy was it to hook it up to shaw?

  • i think you can use any tv tuner w S-video AV in bot beter w hardware Mpeg4

  • I use ATI Theater 650 tuner cards for analogue capture, and use Firewire video capture for the digital/HD channels. Getting the Firewire to work perfectly is not an easy process, but doable with plenty of patience and frequent reference to Sage TV's uer forum :)

  • kewl 2 months! lol Thanks tho i bought the same tuner cards.

  • How do you get HD signal from your digital cable box? Aren't you limited to 480p via coaxial/s-video?

  • How does the computer connect to the comcast box? I am trying to figure out how to set up a htpc and make it work with my comcast box.

  • Logitech diNovo Mini

  • what is the keyboard/mouse called?
