  • I love the British influence here. :)

  • Am sitting at home argueing with my wife and stepdaughter. Was driving home today and thought of the Replacements, the parties in uptown and growing up in the Twin Cities. Listening to these guys was such a great escape! Seemed like the music back then at the clubs, houses, ets was always GREAT! Thank you Paul and the gang for such great memories and letting me escape from this domestic nightmare! (actually it ain't so bad.....)

  • A lot of the music I liked when I was younger seems kind of stupid now but this is still awesome.

  • it's funny that the DARE song is in the related videos. nope, DARE and the replacements are pretty much the opposite of related. i wonder what paul would think.

  • I remember when this album arrived at the record store I worked at in 1984, it was such a breath of fresh air and it still sounds great

  • something great was happening in 80' american nderground rock.not what was popular back then like glam metal

  • It would be great for them to do a reunion show, id fly cross country for that shit..same with husker du, best thing we can get are cover bands...better than nothing i guess

  • GOD! i miss them. saw the last show in Chicago and bawled my eyes out.

  • I will dare to remember The Replacements.

  • This is the best song from the best album of the 1980s. I still get goosebumps when this one comes on.

  • This is the only kind of music garages can produce

  • Heckfarr--that is an awesome tale. And sounds like Paul. I saw them in Cleveland, and they were pretty hammered. I've seen some bands lit before, and they tended to suck. But not Paul and the boys. They lit it up. In fact, I think they may have been better than when I saw them before (Columbus or Pittsburgh? Maybe Ithaca?). Though, it did cause a bit of a ruckus when Paul crashed into the drum kit, a beer revived him...

  • I like ...dare!

  • i love this song:)

  • God, this guys used to be so good, weren't they?

  • @dj45rpm Weren't they?, ofcourse they were, they were fucking amazing.

  • This tune still rings in my mind from time to time, especially when I want to feel happy. Thank you The Replacements. Your music surely sheer me up a lot.

  • Bacon and cigarettes would be an unreal dinner

  • @andrewburton12345678 Having actually had bacon and cigarettes for dinner more than once in college, I can attest that it is an entirely unreal dinner. Unless you eat a LOT of bacon, and add ample amounts of beer. (Of course, then I found out that the lyrics are actually "fingernails, cigarettes, a lousy dinner." Whoops.)

  • Minneapolis rocks.

  • I always liked this one by them They have alot of killer trax. Kinda beatlesque and I love the mandolin. Absoultly one of the best bands ever

  • \o/

  • Sjajna stvar.. pozdrav iz Bosne... ma gdje ona bila...

  • The Replacements was the first show I saw when I got to college. They played The Living Room in Providence, RI in 1985 on the Tim tour. Bob Stinson, crazy antics, and loud as a motherf*cker. I became a big fan after that.

  • love it still, this is classic. comeing from a 41yrold in omaha. been a fan since it started

  • Fucking revolutionary.

  • Wow, so nice (and totally unexpected!) of you to reply to my comment. Appreciate muchly hearing from another 'Mats fan - thanks!

  • A great song but not the best from the greatest band and record ever made. I guess I would rank Unsatisfied and Answering Machine a little higher from that record but really what difference does it make? I would put this equal to Sixteen Blue. Wow 105,000 views that is like an all-time record views for a Replacements song.

  • @11xzxzxz Totally love Answering Machine too; particularly for it's lyrics that totally encapsulate yearning and bitter disappointment so poignantly - however, dunno if I can rank one above the other - love both of those songs equally but for different reasons. Regardless, the 'Mats will FOR EVER rock in my book and I'm still pissed that they never made it to Australia!

  • @COUSINCAT Yeah I never saw them .. just Paul ..they were on their way to Australia and some nasty waitress in the sky was giving them lip and not enough hip so the drunken boys turned around. Be well down under.

  • @11xzxzxz Wow, so cool (and totally unexpected!) of you to reply to my comment. Appreciate muchly hearing the story from another 'Mats fan - thanks! Btw have you ever heard Tommy Stinson's album from 2004, 'Village Gorilla Head'? It's brilliant and one of those rare record's where virtually every track's a winner!

  • @COUSINCAT Yeah I bought Tommy's Gorilla and it was great. Oh you replied to my comment first..right?

Oh the story about the flight was a joke on their song "Waitress in the Sky" .. I just made that up. Sorry.

  • @11xzxzxz Duh...I'm such a moron! Only occurred to me later that your 'story' was in fact a ref to that song. Sorry for being such an obtuse dick! Btw, checked out 2 clips on Youtube of Tommy Stinson performing "Not a Moment Too Soon" live (seriously one of my fav songs EVER!) Still amazed at how brilliant his voice is - who'da thunk it! Considering the 'Mats never made it to Aus, you'd reckon the least Tommy could do is tour here! Nice speaking with you.

  • @COUSINCAT Yeah I was just listening to not a moment too soon and it's great. I must admit I am still a bigger Paul fan though. Hey don't feel dumb at all most fans would have missed it I supposed. Hey do you want to meet me anyplace anytime I will dare if you will dare ? How about Europe a midway point. Just joking around..ha.

  • @11xzxzxz Wld luv to, but before our European rendevous, gotta do sum family-related crap....will need to get drunk after that so don't expect any coherent conversation! Hope to catch up w/u soon

  • @COUSINCAT OK .. put some videos up when you get a chance .?/

  • @11xzxzxz How young are you? (and that's a legit question!); How old am I? (have a guess!)

Am now listening to IOU - have always loved this song for it's full on rocking-outness (is that even a term?)

ps I'm a total tech-tard so don't really know wot u mean when you ask that I put up some vids - even if I did, I'm such a moron, I wouldn't even know how!

  • @COUSINCAT I would guess you are 44 and I am about that. Funny, I away bypassed IOU .. good song but I wanted to get to Alex Chilton, Nightime Jitters, Can't Hardly Wait, Nevermind and Valentine.. . OK but all you have to do is click ADD to under this song (above) and then add to Favorites... other stuff you can just experiment with or ask me in an email if you want. I am not tech-savvy in the least.

  • @11xzxzxz Spot on age-wise...(sorta hoping that you'd guess somewhere in my 30s if only for vanity's sake!) If I haven't fucked it up, you should receive another post real soon with a bit more info about me via that Youtube "friends" option thingy. Let me know if that's worked

  • @COUSINCAT OMG! Fucken hate computers! After spending 10 minutes trying 2 craft a reasonably articulate reply to you, I inadvertently touch a key I didn't mean to and my reply disappears. Aarghh!!! Anyway, wanted to say that I've responded to the 'youtube friends' option thingie if u want more info about me; but I'm intrigued 2 learn wot current music yr loving; (I love Kurt Vile; Spider Bags (super-super-luv 'em!!!) and Ty Segall). Wot say you? Btw Pussy Galore on iPod while 'penning' this!

  • @COUSINCAT It's working fine. I looked at your site and it said 44 .. that's all. Does cousincat have some meaning .. mine means nothing and so sorry I can't change it.

  • @11xzxzxz Tommy starts out not a Moment Too Soon with a line from Unsatisfied - So tell me what's wrong. And lines like There days I wish I'd never met you And days I wish there were more of you are excellent but I see the Paul influence. It's hard to know. Not trying to down Tommy but Paul wrote most of the great songs with the Replacements though the band helped interpret them. Oh I could be wrong .. how dumb am I?

  • @11xzxzxz Certainly don't dispute that Paul Westerberg's the obvious 'Mats' genious, (and yeah, he's my fav too!), however, think Tommy deserves kudos for his amazing transition from bratty teen to amazing lead performer in his own right!

  • I have to differ with Paul. Bacon and Cigarettes are a great dinner.

  • @mrfiggins Always preferred fingernails, myself.

  • @mrfiggins Lol! Actually, I prefer bacon and beer for dinner (after giving up the ciggies 3 years ago!)

  • @COUSINCAT I assumed the beer was a given. lol.

  • the greatest single off the greatest album by the greatest band of all time, bar none, even the Beatles, ya no shit, I said it, the Beatles. -repoman1121

  • Peter Buck!

  • My mom has been pestering me for 2 years to get into this band and I finally started listening to them. Well, what the hell took me so long? They are amazing.

  • @melody39able Go mom!

  • 7 people are cowards who won't dare...

  • My all time favorite band.. Why? Because growing up, it seemed like these guys had a song for EVERY SINGLE feeling that I was going through, and am going through.. One of the greatest bands of all time

  • When i was growing up in Minneapolis as kid my parents would play this album all the time, hearing it now brings back a lot of good memories.

  • Saw them in Athens, Georgia at the Georgia Theater. They opened w/ this tune and some idiot threw beer at Paul. He dropped his Les Paul, jumped into the crowd and beat hell out of that moron. He climbed back onstage and they played for 2 more hours.

  • @heckfarr That's awesome! If it were some other rock stars (who shall go nameless, but one rhymes with asshole), they would bitch and moan and quit. Love the Mats!

  • @heckfarr I was at that show too!! The band never stopped playing while Paul took care of the jerk. I saw them 3 times, and the Athens show was the best of them all.

  • @heckfarr I live 5 minutes from the Georgia Theater! Haha.

  • 6 morons won't dare to thumbs up

  • Green Day is the best

  • @MrGauruv then why are you watching the replacements?

  • @colpetne why not? it's not like you can only listen to your favorite band.

  • so zesty, just have always loved this tune.

  • Man I LOVE this song. <3 <3 <3 <3

  • I burnt this record up......so great to hear it again.

  • does anyone else get pissed off when you look up "The Replacements I Will...." and you click the first thing and you get Keanue Reeves and gang dancing to 'I Will Survive'

Maybe I need to quit drinking everyday and listening to The 'Mats or maybe that movie should be deleted forever.

  • i like this song muchly.

  • @lishfish hahaha! that's mye kinda komment.

  • over the years many folks have had opinions but this was the best band

  • I love this record!!!

  • My dad always loved The Replacements, so I thought I should listen to this album. As soon as I put on, I realized, "Oh. I get it."

  • @ZRN959 That's awesome. I often wonder what my two young daughters will gravitate towards now that they've heard, and dig, all the greats.

  • @ZRN959 Your dad rules!!!!! and made feel old hahahaha maybe i could be your dad

  • @ZRN959 Same happened for me

  • Paul Westerberg is such a genius songwriter. I just love how much longing, mixed with sheer anticipation and torture are in the lyrics! LOL! I think we've all been there at one point of our lives Peter Buck (of R.E.M.) is playing mandolin. Great rhythm section groove in this song. The Mats are the best!

  • Best bass line ever!

  • Craig Finn (The Hold Steady)'s favourite song.

  • I made sure this was the first song I listened to in 2011. Just felt right.

  • When this hit in '84 we were all dumbfounded, and 25 years later it's still a regular on my turntable. Like The Minutemen, The Replacements moved in the punk/hardcore scene but broke from the three chord barrier and showed us young punks that there could be more power in music than just power chords.

  • To make the rhythm guitar have the best sound, play a Rickenbacker 12 string...yes it's pricey but it works fine

  • cool song...

  • Fucking love this song.

  • You probably didn't know that Tommy ate a bean and cheese burrito on his way the studio when the recorded this....I swear the biggest problem with bands like the Replacements and Husker Du is their fucking johnny come lately fans that have to be so damn pretentious....and even if you are not johnny come lately then take a lesson...the college radio attitude die a deserved death years ago. Listen to Lagwagon "Knowitall" and drop the attitude....dont sully a great band with pretension.

  • @ibemot

I hope that wasn't directed at me pal, I was sharing something i've always thought was kind of cool. I mean, even if it wasn't directed at me you need to abandon what is a totally arbitrary arguement.

When have any music dorks, Indie Rock or otherwise ever taken a band purely on face value? Fact of the matter is, it's fun to find out a bunch of seemingly useless information about the bands you love, pretension doesn't come into it. p.s you take a lesson, Lagwagon is music for morons

  • @wyldpunx pretentious moi?well excuse me.i just love the replacements and good music in general thats enough.don t mean to step on anybody s toes.but all of a sudden i get this extreme responses that aren t necessary.

  • probably my favorite Replacements song... this whole album kicks ass.

  • where's my air guitar?

  • i can't help but nod my head to this song. simply terrific.

  • love it, love it love it

  • rem loved this band and it showed off.

  • @cosmicrider287

You probably already know but Peter Buck took some time out from being an aero-menace to play on this song, pretty awesome

  • @wyldpunx yeah,i was aware,since i did a little study on this sublime band.

  • @cosmicrider287 reading their wiki page isnt a study bud

  • @CherubsRock why it isn t?mostly a great information source.believe me i look and listen further than those pages.pal.

  • @CherubsRock why it isn t?mostly a great information source.believe me i look and listen further than those pages.pal.

  • @cosmicrider287 shutup you dumb fucker

  • @wyldpunx and thank you again for sharing this information anyway.

  • my alltime favorite Replacements song!!!

  • This song always makes me smile.

  • awesome band, awesome song

  • Greatest band ever.

I wish more people understood how important they where and still are to music.

  • Yeah The Replacements are selling at lot better than one would expect from a normally stupid public and record industry. Unsatisfied, the most satisfying record ever made, is on this record too. Paul's voice is always so fucking perfectly imperfect.

  • How can anyone NOT like this???

  • Tommy rules!,the only good one left alive in this band

  • The Replacements started as an original garage band. They had came a long way by the time they recorded this song. Very Cool to see people are still checking them out! Paul Westerberg and the gang are very talented!

  • How have I, Just discovered, the replacements!!

  • @matthemod Some of them are nearly as old as my parents

  • Comment removed

  • This is real F-ing music, you listing Justin Bieber!!

  • Is it me or does Chirs Mars look like St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford?

  • @jamaral81 i think its just you, lol

  • Wasnt Chris Mars the famous painter in this band? :o

    Nice music anyway! :D

  • the best

  • The one person who disliked this song must be retarded deaf. What a masterpiece song and album

  • the entire album is a masterpiece

  • cant belive the views

  • Great band. Great song. For anyone interested this song is covered on avclub.com, its a cover...but worth checkin into....

  • For rillz, Caio is the sweetest dude ever.

  • One of the greatest rock tunes ever written.

  • @JFLD02186 you are correct sir!

  • @lyonslaforet and @eartant. I could be wrong, but I believe that's Westerberg on the mandolin in this song. Buck definitely played the guitar. You can hear his distinctive whine/twang.

  • @joshualavin You're correct, at least according to the liner notes. "Paul on 12-string electric, mandolin; Chris, tambourine; Pete Buck, guitar solo"

  • you can totally year the part that peter buck plays

  • X covered this song. Its amazing, too!

  • Fantastic song and Peter Buck of REM played guitar. Not that Bob Stinson could be improved upon..

  • This is a nice song:]

  • This track is just swell.

  • so amazing

  • DAMN this song is amazing and still is over 25 years later.

  • Peter Buck from R.E.M. played extra guitar on this song and you can hear his unique playing!

  • @lyonslaforet Actually he played mandolin, which gives it such a signature sound.

  • @eartant I didn't know that. Thanks!

  • Been waiting for this song, thanks.

  • Even set this as my profile song on fb. ;)
