Ive been on this planet for a while now and seen scores of genocidal uprisings, starvation, war. The problem is (and its a very real one) The US is nearly bankrupt. Where is the money coming from to send aid and troops to every hotspot in the world? It just isnt there. If the US was a true democracy then things could be done. But these things will go on and on and will never be solved by US intervention. That goes for invasions and country building to.
The least we can do is give humanitarian aid to those who have been hurt by this conflict through privately owned charaties. But no one knows to give any $ because unlike the Phil Specter case, you won't see this on the nightly news. Getting some exposure for this genocide would be a great start.
Theres a difference between fighting terrorism and stopping racial cleansing. This is our chance to stop Hitler like behavior but we'll be late as usally.
I propose we take the side of the ones that live in huts and use sticks and stones as weapons. we fight the ones using airplanes and dropping bombs on simple villages. Whos side did we pick when we went to Iraq, our own.
Iraq now allows women to vote. Other women's rights will surely follow but it will take time, just as it took us time to get used to the fact that women are equals and it is still leveling out for us in America. The Iraq war has had huge impact on freedoms in Iraq and you will continue to see progress there.
Saddam, murdering sociopathic that he was, DID allow women to vote, go to university, women NEVER required to wear headcovering. Iraq had highest educational level for women in the Middle East, lowest infant death rate. But our "democracy" made it impossible for ANYONE to go to school because of destruction, lack of electricity, water. Now, infant death rate is HIGHEST in Middle East due to lack of sanitation, medicine, hospitals, and bombings.
Every race releigion and creed has men that abuse their wifes, why do you only single out christians, in Islam however it is the RULE not the exception which is why I brought it up, you completely missed your mark.
Go to Iran (if your a woman) or send your wife or girlfriend there without the "proper garments" and see if she retruns with stories of tolerance towards women in Islam or if she returns at all.
A waste of time, since you know ZERO about political blowback, but some history. Iran 1953: CIA helped topple Mossadegh's democratic secular government to install the Shah. After years of torture by the Savak, Iranians overthrew him, elected Khomeni, who hated the US.(DUH! after years of vicious rule people want revenge.)
How many Muslim wife beaters do you personally know, or are u going by propaganda and gossip?
I know at least 20 families, well, none of which have relationships that different to 'western'. I know for a fact that respecting and caring for ones wife is a requirement in Islam, it is written in the Quran.
Whilst your culture may not agree with headscarfes, heard of respecting others? women often find it liberating that they don't have to be judged on their looks or clothes, but rather, the person.
i totally agree w/all of u guys. the world has 2 start getting off their lazy asses & focus on what's happening in Darfur. i hate it when the news talk about celebs 2 damn much. the only celebs i like r the ones who help out others. like, George Clooney. he & his father r trying their hardest to try & stop the madness that's going on in Darfur.
The only thing is, the Sudanese government greatly restricts any media coverage in the area, so that might be another reason we don't see much about it on the news.
I'm agreeing with you 100% Thank you for posting this video, it provides more awareness about this genocide. I am sick of what is going on and MORE sick of how it is being ignored! More people must know what's going on and more attention must be brought. The media must stop talking about Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson and all that celebrity junk and start covering Darfur. Some places have already started doing that but not ENOUGH. They must do more..now
While the BBC may be a pretty good news station when compared to other news stations... it still falls way short of the standard that all news should be at.
No it doessnt and dont you dare believe that. The BBC is a marxist run operation that is anything but biased. Its a multiculturalism obsessed organisation that completely ignores the Police State the Uk has become. In fact a study just published today said the BBC was biased against its own nation, and only 23% of Brits believe what they say. Your news may be full of trash but in between all that you are allowed a differing opinion. UK-BBC = USSR

In Darfur it is Christians VS Arab Muslims VS Black Muslims, whose side exactly do you propose we take?

ahhh. Because Christian men NEVER hit their wives, girlfriends or children? Statistics in the US would refute that romantic notion

That was EXACTLY my point, yet you twisted it around.
You said AND I QUOTE: "They are not required to wear the headresses, as long as they can take a punch."

spookytom, you can rationalize ANY major progress by citing the horrific blowback it will cause (regardless if it happens or not.)

I think power and authority is the problem of the world. There is always the will to gain it, and to use it for your own gain.
