Nice bike , bought my first Harley "Sporty" in November and love it. That girls bike garbage comes from salesmen trying to make a larger commission , and bike clubs that require at least 1000cc to be a member. I'm 5'11 @ 220 , rode 700 miles in one day. I admit w/o the foward controls , it would have been a rough ride.

I'm a back to basics man...if I wanted to clutter up my 07 stock sportster I'd stop by some five and dime store, get all the nic-nacs I could carry, get a gallon of super glue and create non essentials all over the bike...just to get attention. Don't need attention, don't need others comments, just love the simplicity of basics, rides in the country and knowing I am a purist....not a showist. Ride safe.

I'm 6'3 250lbs and love my sporty....... The only people that ever call it a chick bike are people that don't have one, and weekend riders. I hang out with several "old School" bikers that will tell you the Sporty is the purest form of riding, and most of them that ride the big cruisers now say they wish they still had a sporty, if for nothing more than to hop around town on.

@dirtyjew1974 i agree. most people who own big motor bikes have them because of ego or vanity. in many cases their bikes have more power & weight than they actually have the skill to handle. engine size doesnt equal experience or riding skill. it just means they spent more money. ive been riding since i was 5 & had a motorcycle license almost 25 yrs. iv'e owned big bikes and i have the skills & experience to handle them but i love the handling, fun factor & versatility of my sportster.

@vetryder I ride a triumph and its a trident 750, its a triple. I love my bike though and have no shame about its size and i ride my vintage bike with pride! the 883 sportsters are my favorite harleys also and id ride one of them with pride if i had one too! ive only been riding for about a year...hardly alot of experience but i feel comfortable on the bike and it dont feel too big and awkward for me, not that im a small guy considering im about 210 but i wouldnt want a huge bike.

The carburator jets are the "screaming eagle" brand. they sell them as kits at any Harley shop. The type II kit means that they A. add the jets. B. they change your stock air filter C. they change the stock pipes. Ask at any Harley shop, they'll set you straight. If they are too expensive for your taste, just price them and get them cheaper elsewhere...e-bay, motorcycle swapmeets, etc., etc.

you'll love the sound they emit, it's exactly like the sound the bike on this video makes. Later

Here it goes part II: 1. 883's are short and narrow, do not add bulk to it, e.g saddle bags, crash bars, long sissy bars, luggage racks, larger tank. windshield. biggo fron't tool bags. It kills the "sport " in "sportster". keep it

 simple. It's not a pack horse or burro, think of it as more of a "fast Pony". If you want all that on , get a Honda Goldwing, no offence but those things look like elephants, or better yet, drive your car.

Here it goes:

1. get a stage two "screaming eagle" kit on it (carburator jets and slip on slash pipes.) it'll sound like a softail or even a Road King.

2. Put on some 14" "Chubbies" ape  hangers on it. (tall handle bars) It'll give you the badass biker look.

3. remove the factory 1 1/2 person seat and replace it with a "lepera" single seat. This will expose the entire rear fender and it'll look lowered. try it

I have the same bike and color, it seems forever since my bike was that stock. I have done a lot to it. I need to do a new vid on what it looks like now. My end of winter it will be the fastest sportster in the midwest or at least a close second. Boring to a 1440, Putting an extended swing arm with a 200 tire, adding NOS, Supercharger, Vance and Hines shortshots, Chroming frame, have added blue neon lights. I put barbwire pinstripping, and the skull theme.
