Great game but you should add some destructables, for example the boxes should break after you shoot them 5 times and can no longer be used. I started MMF 2 right now, it's easier for me because I have lots of Gamemaker expirience, and the possibilities are almost the same, except you can't make flash games with Game Maker
Awesome work. I'm interested in how you achieved the light effects. Is the flashlight really illuminating or just saturating areas with whiteness? I'm having trouble making an effective/good-looking/elegant darkness+light system with multiple sources of light.
#1: Make an invisible object that's halfway up on the object you want to go behind. Instead of having a character moving, have a small line or rectangle moving with your player object always setting to its position and its direction. All you have to do from there on is make it so when the line(or rectangle) is overlapping your invisible object to move behind the wall.
#2: Set it so it moves behind when the Y coordinate is greater than the wall's.
I did it by integrating it with the line of sight system. The line of sight system uses the move safely 2 object to test for a clear line of sight to each enemy. Whether the enemy is in view or not changes an alt value in the enemy which is then used in the AI and the fading behind obstacels.
