I have a question. I've seen images of a tall ladder-type structure at OCS. The images have only been slight and not very clear but it looked as if it the distance between steps is taller as you got to the top. Is this true or were my eyes deceiving me?
not everybody can do good for his country only afew and the brave, many have tried but only few survived, if you want the world to see you join in the marines and youll see whats behind that title that keeps them moving on
geez!! this ocs video makes the marines look intense.....dang! only the courageous ppl can make it through ocs to be a Marine Officer....man!! i think i can do it......=)
On my way to OCC 201.....so ready for the challenge. My only concern is avoiding injury...a 32 y/o body just doesn't heal as fast ya know. But I look forward to showing the youngins how it is done. OOOOHhhhh Raaaah!
not to be a dick, but I think you meant were, not where. I just see that so much, I thought I would let someone know whats up with the grammar. I had a teacher yell at me for that once.
If you want some thoughts on OCS, I can tell you this. They will screen, train, and evaluate you unlike ever before. The mentatlity is like that of boot camp, but there's no getting under the radar. The key to survival? Rest, chow, and stretching. Ship healthy and fit, not tired or fat. Don't walk too much on liberty, and forget about hme, because it isn't going anywhere. Learning to speak in 3rd person helps, too. Lastly, learn to fail. Perfection is non-existent as a candidate.
i disagree that the mentality is like basic. in fact, it is the exact opposite of basic. at ocs, you're expected to learn how to lead, which is not the focus at PI or SD. I agree that the best preparation you can do is RUN, RUN, RUN. I had a 23:30 time that I trimmed to 20 min by graduation. It would have been much easier if i would have had that run time to start with. Congrats to all who've completed their 10 or 12 weeks.
@musicman216: yes, i'd say that would be sufficient. That is par for most companies. However, it's nothing to see guys running 16-17 min, so the faster the better. They've recently added much more strength exercises, so upper body strength is more important now than before. Semper Fi
So Upper body strength? Or endurance? Or both? Doing 20 chin-ups isn't that hard- but it's a very specific muscle group. Is your PFT a good guide, is it better to be wellrounded?
@musicman216: yeah, be extremely fit in all areas. PT is 2 hrs long and will test your whole body in ways you could never train for at home. For instance, one course is a 4-5 mile run with a dozen cardio stations in boots and utes, h-harness, war belt, and rifle. After negotiating all the obstacles and stations, you run back to the PT field and continue to do circuit training for another hour or so. Push-ups, pull-ups, rope climbs, dips, lunges, sprints, buddy carry, and so much more!
Anybody here going to OCC 197? Its in january, and as 194 was january as well it might be appropriate.. IM SO EXCITED, not gonna lie, little nervous too, BUT MAINLY EXCITED!!
oh okay i'm from pennsylvania, this sounds dumb but i'm not even sure how many people are going to be at this. Do they split us up at all? I'm Brad by the way.
Favorite part? Pick-up day. They'll introduce you to the staff, and the CO will give the order to "turn these candidates into United States Marines". After that, hell breaks loose. It will be the craziest and most memorable day of your lives! You guys doing the 6 or 10-week program?
get on the platoon sgt's shit list if you really want to have fun. the missed sleep and chow will invariably lead to illness. i had a fun four weeks spitting up a coffee cup of crud every time i ran until gunny came around. life was a lot easier after that. the majority of the guys who made the whiteboard shit list went home though.
Oorah Marines!! If enlisted marines are the few and the proud. Marine officers are the fewer and the prouder. I remember in boot my series and company commanders could run like cheetahs, they led by example and they did not scream at you like the DIs, lol. As a recruit you love officers, lol.
wow at 2:00, what happens if you fall off....ouch

So running is the best advice? Is a 21 min mile sufficient?

10-week program. PLC-combined.
I'd ask you to define what "hell breaks loose" but means but I think that would ruin the surprise.
