@edwinm1 I don't see any Hybrid picking, he does pluck with his middle finger some times when sustaining a single note to get a more warmer tone on the attack, but i don't see him doing that, nor actual hybrid picking at 1:03. Friedman, to my knowledge doesn't use hybrid picking. Jason Becker was the one who started getting into hybrid picking in his Guitar Heydays. Friedman mostly uses a combination of Legato and depending on the phrase, either alternate or economy picking.
I agree, in fact the password to my laptop is "Cacophony X" = Racer X + Cacophony. It would just be the most amazing thing to ever happen. Maybe add some Romeo or Chris Broderick into the mix every now and then.

Jason Becker was one incredible guitarist. i nearly cried when i saw a recent video of him from 2008. he's suffering so bad now due to ALS in which he cant even speak or do anything anymore. its really sad how he rose to fame and got sick so fast

Their styles are very similar...Jason is just more shreddy whereas marty is more melodic and dramatic but the core of their playing is pretty much the same...i wonder who influenced who...i think marty influenced jason because he is slightly older....not sure though..the collided awesomely! if the similarities in their playing are coincidental then this must be a one in trillion because i only know those two sounding this way
Yea I think Marty actually taught Jason a bit. I think Marty was a huge influence on Becker's style. Most likely Jason was a technically better player than Marty during the Cacophony days,Resulting in Jason having more of the solos especially in the more "shreddy" sounding songs, on the other hand Marty's style of playing has more emotion and feel to it. Don't get me wrong Jason has plenty but Marty out does him.Given Marty's personality he was probably okay with the rhythm parts.

Cut it out! Both Friedman and Becker have speed, emotion, and technique. Listen to Friedman's Scenes album, if you don't think that the solo of Valley of Eternity has feeling, then you're deaf. Now, listen to Becker's 2 first solo albums; Air is full of difficult complex passages and has A LOT of feeling, Serrana and EndoftheBeginning are one of the most beautiful pieces ever written by a guitarrist. Point is, both guys are fucking gods.

@WEISsGEBeter If you actually knew anything about music, you would realize that comparing two guitarist's as good as guthrie and jason is stupid and redundant. they are both masters in their own style, Guthrie can play just about everything and so can jason, they both have wonderful music and love what they do, and to say Guthrie isn't intelligent is probably the most ridiculous statement i've ever heard, the man can say a sentence and be the most sophisticated guitar player ever.

I have no idea what that was. This reminds me how little feel shredders of the 80's played with. In the end this is a soulless pile of sweeping dribble that has no staying power, thus, why the 80's speed metal movement crashed.

Jason Becker was one incredible guitarist. i nearly cried when i saw a recent video of him from 2008. he's suffering so bad now due to ALS in which he cant even speak or do anything anymore. its really sad how he rose to fame and got sick so fast

@DylanEVH Hey, but you know what? At least he's not complaining. He basically has a good life because he's still doing what he loves-- composing music. And he's receiving a lot of love from his family and friends and not to mention, us, the fans. We still show him support and what more can he ask from us? He's happy and that's what keeps him going. I bet he's inspired even guitarists older than him.

Their styles are very similar...Jason is just more shreddy whereas marty is more melodic and dramatic but the core of their playing is pretty much the same...i wonder who influenced who...i think marty influenced jason because he is slightly older....not sure though..the collided awesomely! if the similarities in their playing are coincidental then this must be a one in trillion because i only know those two sounding this way

Yea I think Marty actually taught Jason a bit. I think Marty was a huge influence on Becker's style. Most likely Jason was a technically better player than Marty during the Cacophony days,Resulting in Jason having more of the solos especially in the more "shreddy" sounding songs, on the other hand Marty's style of playing has more emotion and feel to it. Don't get me wrong Jason has plenty but Marty out does him.Given Marty's personality he was probably okay with the rhythm parts.

@TensaZangetsu814 Actually the songs mainly consisted of harmonies so marty was playing alot of leads too...and the solos were divided in half. except for the impossible parts that were always played by jason but then again, many difficult crazy licks were played by marty..check out some live appearances of cacophony to see what im talking about...the thing i like about marty's playing is that its very diverse...i mean i cant figure out wtf he is doing whereas jason's playing is more str8

Cut it out! Both Friedman and Becker have speed, emotion, and technique. Listen to Friedman's Scenes album, if you don't think that the solo of Valley of Eternity has feeling, then you're deaf. Now, listen to Becker's 2 first solo albums; Air is full of difficult complex passages and has A LOT of feeling, Serrana and EndoftheBeginning are one of the most beautiful pieces ever written by a guitarrist. Point is, both guys are fucking gods.
