  • I'm playing a 77 Gibson SG at the moment and I just don't think I could get a sound anything like this for this sort of song, also I've never had reason to own that sort of pick, so how easy is it just with a normal one? Thanks

  • @DamnedDamnedDamned1 It's like any technique, if you practice hybrid picking with the pick between thumb and first finger, you can then play the bassline. then move other fingers to pick the melody. If you want to watch some hybrid, check out Albert Lee. Good luck

  • Very cool.

  • Now I can say this is the most original Folsom Prison Blues I've ever heard! Thank you!

  • great lesson...i am being drawn to this style of playing as im getting older...having wasted years trying to play distorted metal/rock riffs.....

  • Excellent! Please please please do a even slower down version or close up of your right hand so I can see how you do the thumb picking.Keep it up!

  • hey could you tell me what is the solo

  • Don't use a capo you bellend, play a guitar it should be played!

  • very nice! a bit of spring reverb would be even nicer :)

  • That's fantastic - wish I could do that travis picking, I can play the song pretty well except for that.

  • Does Fast Eddie remember Shadowmusic 1947 (q.v.)?

  • Of course. How you doin dave. Checked out your website. You can still play that guitar. Can you believe the years that have passed. Do you know anything about Geoff. I'm still in touch with Colin

  • I'm really good... no more Shads band now... I resigned! Playing bass in a rock band presently...

Come on over... (now moved just south of Lincoln) Lots of great stuff to show you...

No news of Geoff... can't find him anywhere...

  • ooooo!!!!! master!!! :O

  • Dude get a setup on that guitar. Sounds like your strings are buzzin like crazy, specially on the upper register

  • great job!

  • awesome,im learning this medley already and somedanny gatton rockabilly song´s .saludos amigo from tijuana mexico.really nice and clean playing´.

  • early CASH did it in the key of F then later dropped a half-step to E ..... in F the low singing notes are easier to hit ...... " and thats what tortures me ..."

  • Nice work! Thanks for that!

  • With the capo on the 2nd, the key of the song is F#, is that right? I seem to be able to sing it in that key, whereas in E, if Cash did it in that key, it's a little too bass.

Really enjoy these videos, thanks for the effort.

  • That's my interpretation. Most bands i have seen do it in E, then the singer jumps up an octave on the last line. I can just reach the bass note in F#, hence its easier to show you all the song with capo, as the finger positions will be relative at any position. Key the song so you can get the low note. I think its ounds best to do that

  • Nice picking.

  • nice to see u passing on tips al,thats wot its about, all the best my friend,al

  • Hey Al, thanks for comment. Really enjoyed your gig last week. I've dropped Folsom after seeing you guys perform it. Don't laugh.

  • no way mate,u great g.tist, people like wot they hear n see,and thats from all over the world,so keep it up,dont forget to add folk licks on too,see u soon,al

  • ferry nice .ferry good fine sound good player .enjoyed mvg jan

  • Great lesson! Luther Perkins used to have his moments on "the tenessee three". Its nice to see this 'cause I just start to use thumbpick as well. Very nice tune

  • WOW thanx so much for this. There is no way to pick this up trying to decode the TAB. I like how you show how the lines are based on chords.

  • how much did that guitar set you back?

  • second hand £1500.

  • Wow! You are a good player!!

  • you have a llt of really nice guitars, what would you say is your favorite?

  • the next chet atkins

  • Fantastic!! Thanx for posting!

  • Love the guitar. Own a usa fender strat myself. I imagine those Setzer signature Gretsches cost alot :O

  • why the capo when you don´t even sing?

  • Because the original song is in F#. Johnny had a deep voice. Most singers do not sing the low note on the original. If you do the song in E it is even lower.

  • sounds good

  • Folsom Prison is in Swansea , Wales

  • thanks for posting such cool stuff... keep it coming Fast Eddie!

  • you're sexy :)

  • this song is so wierd to learn all the tabs are confusing me, REALLY nice job

  • Just a question. You´re palm mutting the first strings while playing?

  • Yes, i usually palm mute the bass notes to keep it sounding clean.

  • Thanks!

  • I play that song on the guitar and this is the best I've seen. Congrats.

  • Great take on a great song! Different to the original, but by no means inferior! Great pickin'!!
