Yes, sure. Include mention of the Latinos. But perhaps not possible to do justice to all who were in the war. Example, of all the American ethnic groups, As a percentage of their numbers, the Italian-Americans were most prominent in the US Armed Forces. But this is not mentioned. But that was not the idea and purpose of the documentary.
Did hispanics do anythign in the war other then nothing at all? They dodged the draft and refused to contribute to the war efffort in rationing. Bastards
Latino/Hispanics did show up in numbers to fight with great courage for all these racist fucks and yet they all complain that it is just "angry Latinos craving for recognition" There 500,000 LATINOS out there putting their ass on the line for YOUR grandfather's and grandmother's safety u piece of shit! Don't you think they deserve 30 min of THEIR story as a true "universal and human" perspective as that fuck Ken Burns said? Not every human is White..but God Bless every Latino Veteran's soul :]
Man this chat looks racicist from all the comments blow.
I under stand why hispanics want to be in this documentary was beacuse there was half a million hispanics soldier who fought in ww2 u can't ingore that number. Also if u look at america today u see there is a decent size poplulation of hispanics. I am not calling any1 racist u just have to rember every man and woman no matter what color, language,or religon must be mentoion because they lived thru it.And payed the ultimate price!
ALL should be represented in such an important documentary of our American history. Are we not the "melting pot? . Our country was built by all kinds of people and just like other races; Hispanic people have made huge contributions in bettering this country too. If you don't believe it, you are ignorant and don't know real American history.
Ken Burns focused on four TOWNS, NOT ethnic groups, during the war. He asked if any veterans wanted to volunteer to tell their stories, NO LATINO VETERANS STEPPED FORWARD. After he had made the documentary, all of these arrogant and conceited "La Raza"-type organizations stamped the words "racist gringo" on his forehead. What a bunch of self-righteous malcontents.
@Fudgeya You obviously don't know anything about American history and hispanic contribution to the American War History. There are a lot towns in Texas whose citizen from latino origen proudly served in the Armed Forces.
Universal experience my ass.Though were all humans,we all have different cultures and more importantly mentalities.Never once have I seen a full documentary that tells the other sides story.Btw,why don't they make a documentary about allied war crimes,oh yeah,it happened and you don't have to look to deep to find them
What the Hell!!!!....Its about a war that so many people died in...This country is in a deep demise, where everybody cries about stupid issues, we know they faught, but do you hear white people complain about Carlos mencia...no!!!Get over it...More white people died in WW2 than any other culture,,,so SHUT UP
Good points. 28 minutes were added to the film to accommodate the angry Hispanics. I wonder what this woman and others now think, knowing that Burns deviated from his film to accomodate them? Some groups will stay angry just for kicks.
It'd be great if Burns had taken more of a factual preparation, but he's always made himself to be more of an artist than a researcher and while a civil one, will still make these omissions without realizing it.
500,000 Latinos out of 16 million Americans whom served in World War II is a serious contribution. While the charge of trifling multiculturalism or political correctness may be levied, history is unsympathetic.
Take the 442nd all-Japanese regiment that took the highest casualties and the most decorations in World War II - over 5,000 Bronze Stars. There are films about them, however.
And here's the other, you've got some kind of nerve being a minority and only trying to promote yourself without even a mention of the many OTHER minorities that have been excluded. It's just like the NAACP seem only to really step forward for Afro-Americans,otherwise they remain deafeningly silent. And now we have Latinos speaking ONLY on their own behalf.
I am latino (Spanish-American)and I think it is ridiculous to tell a filmmaker what he should put in his film! I never thought for one second that Latinos didn't contribute to the war cause. The obvious point is that the film cannot cover every group. It talks about lives in 4 different towns.. should all the other towns that are left out complain? This is totally ridiculous, Make you're own damn film and put what you want in it. A-Holes!
Ken Burns is an idiot, in 2007 copying the history of the past - as it was told in 1945?? but in 1945 it was told without the black, latin, japanese contribution and 50 years later your still playing this stupid writing of history. SORRY, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Ken Burns you got too lazy...human experience my ass...
The film includes interviews with Japanese, Native American, Hispanic, and black Americans. You spoke too soon and now you look like a complete idiot. You need some real problems, pal, and you need to think before you write imbecilic garbage.
Its not a stupid issue. I understand the Latino's complaint, because they and other groupls have been excluded from history and ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Its been Hollywood version of the world war, for too long and we've gotten comfortable. People are soo use to history and that its, don't change it but history in the past has been misleading it is time now to change that.
Not ethnic groups , but a huge one. They like to say there a so "may groups." thats bullshit.Growin uip in NY I never saw an Asian anywhere except chinatown.
Most of the soldiers where either gringos, hispanics, or blacks. And we know how jealous you are of them both.
Imagine leaving out the group with the most purple hearts. For a bunch of lies. These awipes will do anyting to lie about anything.revisionist history.
Well you heard the man himself. He wasn't looking for the war in the POV of ethnic groups. He was looking at the war in a humanistic universal way. One which disregarded ethnic groups and social classes. GOD!
What the heck is going on in the U.S?? Why are latinos taking over??? There were plenty of other groups too who took part in WW2. I think the American nation is cowing to the latinos...something to be afraid of guys.
some people just need something to bitch about, amazing

LET THESE STUPID ASSES MAKE THEIR OWN DAMNED FILM.
They couldn't look worse, not having the intellect to see that Ken's film portrays 4 cities. If there weren't any latinos there, then there weren't.
Can they get it? It must be hard for them to strain that much.

@teresawar3 In a true 'melting pot' individual races need not be singled out because they would all be seen as just Americans.
