@blackmore4 Yes, late 80's pap! with awful production-I think 'Distractions' was the only classy song on that album-the Costello (embarrassingly trying to play the Lennon role) co-writes are awful too. McCartney's later albums are far,far better,he seemed to realise he was in cruise control after doing the anthology in the mid 90's and awoke from his MOR safety net! I wish he'd let loose more as he did on The Fireman's last album instead of trying to please all the time
@thenowuk Again I totally agree - "Chaos" and The Fireman rules! However we do seem to be in the minority; the passionate Youtube approval for the McCartney 80s horror-show (I've read... "Flowers was his last great album" and... "Press is hugely underrated" numerous times) is nothing short of peculiar. The masses do worry me!
Check on "Distractions" too - the gem in a box of baubles... actually 'baubles' is too kind for the likes of "Figure of Eight".
@thenowuk Oh come on now! FITD and OTG were solid albums. I do agree with you about Distractions - one of my favorites. Remove the production on Flowers and the sort of lack thereof on Ground and you've got some decent songs. Hope of Deliverance, Put it There, This One, That Day is Done are good album tracks. We may disagree there but such is taste. I 100% follow you when you talk about the Fireman album. That and Flaming Pie are two of his best albums ever.
@AppleCorp3 Yes,Flaming Pie,Electric arguments,McCartney and Ram are my favourites of his. Chaos and creation also has some good stuff on it. Can't agree about OTG tho! awfully weak songs on there from the days he was hanging around with those musically capable but uncreative and uninspiring sidemen-Hamish,Robbie etc
@TeteFutuito It's called an opinion and I was having a civillised discussion with somebody about it,how is that 'ruining it for everybody else'? This song is piss poor weak. I own every McCartney album and this song is the nadir in my opinion. As for 'not getting it'-that just makes me laugh, if you think this is 'profound' you really need to listen to more music. mcCartney has done profound tho,of course-the lyrics of 'The End' spring to mind. This track isn't even in the same ballpark
paul mccartney is the man singing playing guitar piano and of course bass. . . not to mention one of the better song writers . . . i love everything he does . . .this is one of my fav songs tho. . . .rock on paul
This song is cool and innovative - instead of starting with the normal chorus and bringing in countering lead vocal improvisations later, he starts with improvisations and brings in the normal chorus later! I've never heard this done anywhere else. I think people like the "Tripping the Live" version better because he allows the chorus to be sung straight by the backup singers one time so you get to hear how catchy it is - unimpeded by his rough, histrionic ramblings. One of my favorites.
Paul Mccartney Tour 1989/90 the biggest one since 1976 - I was 14 and got to go and freeze my ass off in Birmingham - it was SOOOOOOOOOO worth it. This was the first song, it is brilliant and so is Paul's massive 5 string bass. The only guy to play lead bass, I tell you, have a good listen, turn it up!!!!!!!!!!
You're totally right, fujikisekix, the opening song of Trippin' The Live Fantastic is Figure of Eight, and it sounds a lot better than the original one that's extracted from Flowers in the Dirt.
They were part of The pretneders with Chrissy Hines. When SIR PAUL was finished with them so the story goes, they went back to Chrissy and became The Pretnders again. Now that's the story I was told. I have no idea if it's the truth or not. But this is a great song, and I love it.
@rocnrollurisback The members of the band at this time were Paul and Linda; Robbie McIntosh - guitar (late of the Pretenders); Hamish Stuart guitar, bass (Average White Band); Paul "Wix" Wickens (long time McCartney keyboardist), and Chris Whitten (a popular session drummer)/
I don't know, but this song is so similar to one of the eric clapton's song, but I don't know which one, anyway this is really one of the greatest 80's song, love you Paul (not in a gay way, but just)!!! superb, underrated, cool song from another Paul masterpiece!
Judging by the crap that's served up on the tv and the radio these days, apparently not. Someone in the recording industry told me that 2/3 of cd sales are of re-releases and greatest hits of artists from the past, like the Beatles.
He was the real "showman" of the beatles. It doesn't show now really... He's a bit old and one doesn't have the energy to freak out when you're sixty four. But, still you can notice traces of this energy from when he was young, like the expressions in his face. When he performs he often grimaces to the audience, talking to them with his eyes. His new album is soon released in my country. I can't wait, but i have to!
What about Memory Almost Full, one of his best in my opinion.

@thenowuk this has has a very profound metaphysical message, which you obviously don't get, but don't try to ruin it for everybody else, ok ;)
