To our Harper Conservatives, the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and Parliamentary procedures are nothing but suggestions. In order to have absolute and unaccountable rule (which the Harper Tories want), they have to underplay anything that dare challenge their authority. They've been to court so many times - and lost - over constitutional and other legal issues. That's not important to them, what's important is they move on and continue their malicious dictatorship.

I dont know if you are just willingly ignorant, but John A McDonald was a progressive conservative, the progressive conservative DIED because John McKay sold out his party and joined the Canadian Alliance led by Stephen Harper. Stephen Harper is not a progressive conservative like John A McDonald. Progressive conservative, TORY, does not exist on the federal level anymore. Of course! As if Air Canada provides an "essential service". Two of my friends are flight attendants and they are soooo pissed. They haven't had a raise in a long time and it's getting harder for them to make ends meet. It seems Harper is blind to the needs of individuals or just plain doesn't give a flying fuck. People are very big on their rights, so I find the public's apparent lack of interest in what's been happening here very strange. It's as if as soon as Harper came along everyone just stopped caring. Somehow he's been able to get away with an awful lot.

About people being distracted by their personal indulgences, I'd agree that it plays a large part of the problem. I can't really wrap my brain around it..
