2) Capitalism has been disappearing since the depression. What has been happening is not capitalism. Capitalism is production & savings. The US economy is based on consumer spending and debt. To label it is mere semantics. The combination of massive government spending and debt, progressive taxation, subsidies, etc. will lead to economic collapse. Is the camp that Joseph's wife was in at Auschwitz supposed to be the family camp? Because there were babies and children in it and some of the women's hair was not fully sheared. And they cleared out the whole barrack so I can only suspect it was in the family camp. But I am also confused because I thought the family camp was used to only hold Romanians. This is where this movie kinda goes off the tracks. Berta and Ms Lowy wouldn't have made it thru the selection on the ramp. Because of their age, they would have been gassed upon arrival. Joseph would have probably been put to work in the camp hospital working for Mengele since he was a doctor.
@Captdon5021 That is not necessarily true. For example, we have all seen pictures of the famous Frank family from Holland during WWII. I expect you know who I speak of. Well, Otto Frank was fifty-five years old and he was selected to live. So were the Van Pels and they were not much younger. Sometimes people managed to get by, for a time being.
@gior2009 If someone was 80 or 2 they would most likely be gassed immediately, but people in the middle age ranges would be put to work. It wasn't necessarily a case of "selection to live" because all Jewish people were marked for death. What the Nazis did is they first deemed who was fit to work and them deliberately deprived the Jews of their basic needs so that they would get sick and then they would gas them, but not until they were to sick to work in most cases.

So the fact that they were chosen to work was just to make the movie kind of dwell on the characters for a longer time. I feel that this movie was quite dreadful. I was always confused as to how the NAZIs picked up the tern ARYAN, since in all of my studies the Aryans came up from Northern India. Your right about the Gypsies, but somehow people thought that they came from EGYPT and the name stuck.
Alot of this mini-series is good. But this scene is where it lets itself down. Children weren't put into barracks at Auschwitz, they were murdered on arrival. You couldn't have photos on your bed, all possessions were removed on arrival. And frankly it looks like a dormitory, not the basic wooden hut it should be.

She would not have been able to take photo's into Auschwitz and there is no way he would of got into the female barracks, plus they would have been gassed on arrival as they are old. However great tv series.
It is possible if she knew how to smuggle it. It would have to have been hidden before undressing/getting the number and retrieved then, but yeah, I've read that happening in other concentration camps, not Auschwitz.

But what I am saying with gratefulness is that God made Jews more human than many races of the world, whose pride, cruelty and aggressiveness easily come out during the time of their supremacy, like MANY Germans for example. This is where this movie kinda goes off the tracks. Berta and Ms Lowy wouldn't have made it thru the selection on the ramp. Because of their age, they would have been gassed upon arrival. Joseph would have probably been put to work in the camp hospital working for Mengele since he was a doctor.

Well, Otto Frank was fifty-five years old and he was selected to live. So were the Van Pels and they were not much younger. Sometimes people managed to get by, for a time being.

@gior2009 If someone was 80 or 2 they would most likely be gassed immediately, but people in the middle age ranges would be put to work. It wasn't necessarily a case of "selection to live" because all Jewish people were marked for death. What the Nazis did is they first deemed who was fit to work and them deliberately deprived the Jews of their basic needs so that they would get sick and then they would gas them, but not until they were to sick to work in most cases.

So the fact that they were chosen to work was just to make the movie kind of dwell on the characters for a longer time. I feel that this movie was quite dreadful. It could have come out much, much better.

The magnitude of the real Holocaust is so far beyongd imagining that a story like tghis is the only way we who did not live through it could even begin to understand.

Alot of this mini-series is good. But this scene is where it lets itself down. Children weren't put into barracks at Auschwitz, they were murdered on arrival. You couldn't have photos on your bed, all possessions were removed on arrival. And frankly it looks like a dormitory, not the basic wooden hut it should be.

Already in their weakened state from lack of food & water. Faced with soldiers (If they can be called that) with guns and dogs and all around the camp is barbed, electrified wire. @KatieDerry 1.5 million children were murdered by the nazis. most often. mothers gave their lives too because they wouldn't part from their babies. unlike many of the murderous crimes done today, the germans made the process extremely efficient from start to finish. they stripped people from their nationalities, possessions, pride, and human form. they used their properties (even hair, teeth, etc) to finance the war and keep it going. nothing went to waste. and these were "civilized" people.

It is possible if she knew how to smuggle it. It would have to have been hidden before undressing/getting the number and retrieved then, but yeah, I've read that happening in other concentration camps, not Auschwitz.
