  • i bought mine new tonight and have already had it in pieces and back together theres one part i cant take off and thats the bottom fore grip piece any help on how to take that off?

  • @inhalesintoexhales Check out my Tantal disassembly vid bro.

  • @vamoos1 Thanks!!!

  • It's the real Łucznik manufactured 1-3-Full Auto weapon or just a copy? Also congrats on having a piece of nice weapon!

  • @akkudakkupl Unfortunately I do not have the license to own fully automatic rifles. It costs A LOT of money. It's a semi-auto version built using parts from an original fully automatic Tantal.

  • i cant find a polish bakelight grip anyware can someone help me thanks

  • @Bulldog97656 I got one. I might be able to part with it. Brand new too.

  • Nice Tantal. I have a Romanian AK-74 I outfitted as a AIMS clone. Love this configuration.

  • need to ditch the romy grip, tantals look sweet AS IS!!!!!!!!

  • @ptaker762 This is an old vid and the Romy foregrip was pure experimental. Since this vid, it's in it's original format.

  • will these accept the bulgarian style side folding stocks?

  • @SmokeandLead Negative. Bulgarian side folders require a specific receiver.

  • Bulgarian is 24mm and by what ive seen here and other places polish is 14mm. These are not interchangable parts.

  • Will a Tantal take regular AK-74 muzzle brakes?

  • The Tantal has your standard 14 tpi left twist, but it has another inch of barrel that extends past the threading.

    It kinda looks like this...||||||===

So the Tantal works ONLY with it's factory brake as far as I know.

  • Holy shit is this at Gibsons in DFW?

  • romanian lower grip ftw

  • LOL! It's great on the Tantal actually. Controls really well.

  • All AKs need an Ultimak!!! Love your vids. Short and to the point.

  • Yes they do. Unfortunately, the Tantal is not Ultimak friendly. This is due to the the gas tube/lower handguard bracket. I'm sure you can get a custom job done to it in order for the Ultimak to work, but I'm not in the business to cut up my Tantal. LOL!!!

  • How did you replace the foregrip with a Romanian one? I tried but got frustrated after sanding the forend like 20 times and it stil wouldn't fit.

  • I used a rasp file. Sanding takes WAY too long. Keep at it, it's about using the right tool. Just take off a little at a time so you don't have a loose lower handguard.

  • How much do those bad boys cost?

  • $600 and up. You can find a few at $550.

  • i was curious how do you rest your cheek comfertably on on that metal wire while shooting

  • You just put it on there pretty much. What I do is find my cheekbone and rest the wire stock on the underside. That's the best reference point for me.

  • I have heard that CAI Tantals tend to come with terrible barrrels. I would just like to hear your opinion on your tantal?

  • Yes. There have been reports of 5.56 barrels on CAI Tantals.

Mine personally was made by Interarms here in Texas and it's solid. Correct barrel and everythign is aligned perfectly. My Tantal gets 5 stars.

  • Cool beans. If all goes to plan I maybe buying one of these or a Bulgy AK74 when I return from Boot Camp. I always wanted a AK74.

  • I just got one of those Buly 74s. Man they're hot. I took it to a Two Man Team Tactics course this past Saturday and it performed very well.

  • awesome! You got to upload a video of it. Where did you get it?

  • I got it from Gunbroker. Centerfiresystems were selling the same ones, but I found a better deal on Gunbroker. Also built by Tenessee Guns.

  • I can only imagine how beautiful that rifle is!

  • No worries. I think tomorrow I'll be hitting the range with my wife and my coworker(the other young lady in my vids). I'm gonna try and post a vid of all three of us shooting all my 74s. Me in the background, the wife in the middle and then my coworker closest to the cam.

It should be a youtube hit. LOL!!!

  • HELL YEAH! Can't wait to see it.

I appreciate all the help you gave me.

  • it is 5.56mm?

  • Negative. Chambered in 5.45x39 Russian.

  • dude i love this gun there is barely any recoil i finally got to shoot mine ak 74s are awesome

  • Aren't they? I should have a Bulgarian 74 coming to me in a couple of weeks.

  • sweet

  • you said you replaced the bakelite lower handguard? let me know if you wanna put that handguard up for sale

  • Actually SKS, you can get one at apexguns if you're looking for one.

  • awesome. thanks. i never heard of them before, but i'll go check it out

  • If you had to choose between the ak47 and the ak74 whitch would you pick?

  • 74. I know the 47 has an awesome punch, but the cost, accuracy, weight management, and recoil control of the 5.45 tips the scale for me.

The 74 isn't a slouch when it comes to armor penetration. It will cut through 1" armor plating and 40 layers of CRISAT body armor at 200 yards(if I correctly remember what I read).

But they're both tools in the tool box. Every tool has a specific job.

  • ar15 or ak74?

  • I just look into my gun safe and the answer is there. 1 AR verus 4 AKs. LOL!

Seriously, I appreciate the AK system. It's ability to keep rockin with minimal maintenance, even rusted it will rock. Simplicity, durability and just plain mean looks. But the AR is the truly the modern assault rifle. That cannot be denied. It's application are much more numerous than the AK. But I'm a simple guy, so the AK gets my vote. Besides, I can afford most of the AK bells and whistles, unlike the AR's. LOL!

  • Got my amd-65 the other week. Love it! Wondered if you think an ak74 or ar15 would be good for a 2nd gun. I hear the 5.45 is a pretty nice calibre, cheap, tumbles similarly to a 5.56/.223, and provides a nice intermediate round. Is the accuracy comporable between the tantal and an m4?

And what do you mean "more numerous applications"?

  • Let me send you an email. This comment space is just too small.

  • ak 74

  • Nice... love the crack of the AK and it's variant's....

  • It is a cool sound isn't it? Thanks for the comment!

  • wait a min so a chromed barrel is COMPLETLEY corrision resistant?

wat made you get a tantal over the romy 5.45??

  • I wouldn't say 100%, but it does offer longer barrel life and offers easier barrel cleaning.

I like the look of the Polish made firearms. IMHO they're sleeker and sexier versus the Romanian AKs. BUT, I recently acquired a Romanian SAR2 in 5.45x39;) Since they are no longer imported(original military receiver) and hard to come by I bought it immediately. So now I enjoy both Polish and Romanian 5.45x39s:)

  • No. I just saw a few pics of the M21. Very nice.

  • Ahhhhhh.....the Zastava M91...Yes. I just looked it up. Very nice BTW. No I have not fired one of those. I may get a Romanian PSL though.

  • Romanian ak's are cheapest but very good...My favorite is Romak sniper!Yugoslavian{serbian} ak's are the best.Zastava ak's are most retailed and shiped to many, many countries around the globe!Half of Iraqy army have m-72!Have you heard about new Zastava m-21s?

  • what do you think about serbian m-72?i think they are good!

  • My only problem with the M-72 and Yugoslavian AKs and SKSs is that the barrels are not chrome lined. It's really doesn't effect the capability of the firearm, just the barrel resistance to corrosion.

  • i never shot from m-72 but i have shot from m-91 and it is very accurate!only problem is triger!

  • It's not that big of a deal that it's not chrome lined, most 7.62x39 ammo today are non corrosive.

  • Abosultely correct. But, in a HYPOTHETICAL SHTF situation, and all that's left is corrosive ammo, then the chrome lined barrel does offers better resistance versus non-chrome lined.

    But hey, it's all preference.

  • good rifle but i dont like that hand holder!!

  • That was an experiment. I used a Romanian lower handguard in that vid. Believe me, I no longer have that on it. LOL!

  • wz. 96 Beryl is much better !!

  • I already know this. LOL. Since they are in present use, the U.S. does not have them for sale here.

  • The only thing I don't like about the Beryl and Onyks is that it uses the NATO 5.56 bullet. 5.56 ammo here is terribly expensive here at the moment. Thanks to Bush's war. LOL. That is probably the second reason why I got the Tantal. First reason is because it's such a cool AK-74 variant;)

  • Hmm in USA .223 Rem cost 0.5 $ for a bullet when you buy $10 / box 20rds. In POL .223 Rem cost from 0,6$ to 0,37$.

So how much cost ammo before Bush ??

  • It was pretty cheap really. You were able to get 1000 rounds of .223 for $120. Now 1000 rounds of .223 will run you $450.

You can see why I opted for the 5.45 bullet. I can get 1080 for $150 and get better accuracy versus the 7.62x39.

Just recently I got 2160 rounds of 5.45 for $280. Now those are prices I can appreciate.

I can get Russian .223 at $8 per 20 rounds, but steel case ammo just wears down extractors and barrel throats faster.

  • Oh, just wait until they get Osama, and the surplus 5.56 will flood the market. Oh, did I say when or if they get that Osama dude :)

  • dude osama isnt wanted in relation with 911 and it wouldnt be 5.56 it would be 5.45 and 7.62,plus u know osama worked for cia?

  • hey...is me again...

I live in Texas too, and I will be saving my money and go the the Dallas Gun Show tomorrow and Sunday to check out those AKs.

I am still thinking about buying a Tantal...but

is there any another good AK74s for me to consider?

  • Tantals, SAR2s(if you can find one) and Bulgarian AK-74s are the three best. You can find some other 74s but they won't be as nice, but they'll work. It all depends on the size of your wallet really.

  • Interarms made my Tantal. Atlantic Firearms is the dealer that I bought it from. If you get a Tantal, you'll really enjoy it.

I would've gotten a Bulgarian AK-74 along with my Tantal, but the Bulgies are extremely expensive. So I got a SAR-2 to buddy up with my Tantal.

  • who made your tantal? im looking at getting some more ak rifles but i dont know which one i will get yet i kind of want an ak 74 and i hear the tantal is really good and pretty accurate

  • Urban, another great video. I did want to warn you guys about cleaning with WD40. WD is not a cleaner, but displaces moisture, so it's not a solvent. It leaves parafin residue in your weapon. Back When I gunsmithed, we used to get in "WD40" guns; a joke, for shotguns and rifles gummed up with this stuff. Won't effect your AK though, too tough.

     Great film again!

  • Yeah. I've heard a lot of things about WD-40. It's not in the cleaning kit that's for sure. As for corossive ammo, The windex and hot soapy water is what I hear the most.

Thanks for the positive comments. I'm aching to hit the range again. Just the time alotted is not long enough. I really want to get some new vids up. I did ask for Thursday off. Maybe I can hit the range that day.

  • Hows the accuracy with that Tantal?

  • It's supposedly really good. My gunsmith told me that the Romanian 74s come in last, the Bulgarians second and the Tantals first. I put all my shots on the target from the bench and standing like in the vid. The target was at 50 yards, but it was a 24" tall human silhouette. So it was a simulated 75 yards. I still need to fine tune it. I'll be posting more vids of this rifle that's for sure.

  • If I buy an AK, its gonna be a Tantal.

  • You're gonna love it. Just like myself and bltdonahue.

Besides ammo for this is adbundant and the cheapest. $150 will get you 1080 rounds. Most of the stuff you'll see is corrosive ammo, but don't worry. Keep windex and WD-40 to stop the rust from happening;)

  • wolf and barnaul and brown bear and hotshot and golden tiger all offer non-corrosive ammo thats really cheap 1000 rounds is about $180-200 its a good deal for cheap non corrosive ammo

  • Gibsons outpost I'm guessing ;). Hope to see ya out there one day, I'll have my yugo m70 with me.

  • YES! LOL. That's my rifle range. We'll have to send some lead downrange. I'll be heading there soon.

  • The ammo I was using in this vid was Wolf 70 gr. No problems with them whatsoever. Consistant as you can see and hear.

  • Nice to know. I better pick up some of the 88 spam can ammo then.

So no problem with corossiveness with the 88 smmo?

  • It is apparently corrosive, but I just use WD40 as my cleaning solvent, and all is well. Spray liberally in places you can't directly scrub (like the gas block)

  • I've loaded up on the Bulgy ammo. I had no problem cleaning it and haven't had a corrosion problems (WD40 rocks for the hard-to-reach parts). For you other guys, I find the ergonomics like any other AK. Not as nice as the AR-15 type, but quite workable. This baby has the best accuracy of an AK type I've fired. About like my M4 ~ 4 MOA The surplus rounds tumble BIGtime. I even had some tumble on the way TO the target. They only did it when the rifle was VERY hot, after ~300 quick rounds.

  • What was the year of manufacture of the Bulgarian ammo? 52 gr. right? I'm planning on getting some. It's usually on the bottom of the casing. Let me know.

WOW. Tumbling? I've never had that problem. Hmmmm...makes me think now why the Afghans called it the poison bullet. It was prolly already tumbling when it hit them. That would definitely make for a mean wound.

  • I had bought a few loose boxes from my local dealer. They were stamped 1991. They shot fine until the rifle was extremely hot, then they spun.

Since it seemed to shoot well, I ordered 2 cans from aimsurplus. They're stamped 88, and it is a better lot. None of them tumbled in midair, and the sound and recoil of each round seemed perfectly identical. I dunno if the Bulgies got lazy as Communism started to fall, or what, but the 88 seems a bit better than the 91s. Both are fine, though.

  • I use standard bakelites and I also use a couple Bulgarians. Get as many as you can. I'm planning on getting several more. Who knows, by '09, they may all disappear or go up in value with the new AWB in the horizon.

  • Sweetness. I just got my Tantal today from J&G Sales. You're right, the 5.45x39, combined with the muzzle-break, make for a rifle that has less recoil than a paintball gun!

What mags do you use? I find the Bulgarian composite mags to be a VERY tight fit, and I can't find any of the original Polish steel mags for sale anywhere?

  • people are still buying these guns? how are they with regards to ergonomics and interface?

Polish army now uses 5.56 beryl, might want to check that out as well.

  • centerfire has steel ak-74 mags. IIRC they are early tantal mags.

  • Nice to know. Thanks!

  • nice,got a fore grip for it.

  • Yes. The Tantal can use standard AK-47 lower handguards. The only thing that makes it different from the majority of AKs is the upper handguard. It's a free floating gas tube, which means the gas tube and upper handguard are not attached to each other.

This is a great 5.45x39 AK. IMHO it's the best 74 that a civilian can get.

  • Are the rounds available to civilians in any similar to the mythical tumbling Warsaw Pact 5.45s?

  • Yeah you can get the comblock ammo. It's actually the cheapest kind to get. It's the Bulgarian 52gr ammo.

Just be mindful that this ammo is corossive. So a good cleaning with 2 parts water and 1 part ammonia will be needed to remove all the salts from the corossive primers;)

  • How does the AK-74 compare to M-16 in terms accuracy. I've used a C7 and an American-built AKM and find that the AK-47 is miles behind the M-16 in terms of accuracy - what about the 74?

  • The 74 is a lot better than the 47 when it comes to accuracy. Hands down. But I honestly feel that it's just behind the 5.56, but not by much.
