@SilverBlade12 hahah, who's the hater here 5 year old little boy? names of countries shall be wrote with capital letters, stupid boy. search in google idiot, or maybe you used to having your ass wiped by your mother?
Yes indeed. That was one that got under my skin. Big time. Why do we love being scared. It's all good while you have people around you, but eventually, you 'll be home alone, and you gotta get a running start to get into bed so the monster can't grab your ankles.
The weirdest, scariest thing happened the day after I saw this movie with my neice. We went to the mall to have a picture taken of my son who was a toddler @ the time. At the food court, this old man started to MEOW! It scared the daylights outta me. He walked over and touched my kid and said "what a pretty little girl". I told him that he is a boy, and he walked away. Talk about freakin' out. I was scared shitless.
@PTLpdb yeah, that's what makes it even more scarier. Azazel is a real demon that was in the wilderness, Hobbes even mentions this to Gretta in the movie.
I would watch an entire prequel of Azazel/Reese if only Koteas still looked the role. None of the others who portrayed Azazel truly captured it like he did.
@Sierra4Delta And Supernatural has an episode titled 'Time Is On My Side' as well as 'Sympathy For The Devil' both songs used in this film from 1998. Just sayin.
@Markula4O4O Okay, I've been searching around and I think "Wie wind zaait, zal storm oogsten"
is roughly translated as "WHO SOWS WIND, WILL REAP WHILRWIND"
and it's actually pretty cool, because it means that, but Azazel told Hobbes it means "What goes around, really goes around. ;)
oh and whoever chalked-up this movies language-confusion to us Americans being stupid and not knowing the difference, STFU A-HOLE THAT'S WHY THIS MOVIE IS FUCKING GREAT AND IS AN AMERICAN MOVIE CULT CLASSIC!
I think what I love the most about this movie is that it never got preachy. Never got to the point of "All men must do good deeds or have an evil devil posess them!" Nah. There's just a psycho fallen that jumps from body to body. How are you gonna deal with that and how are people in general gonna deal with it?
Ace movie. And perhaps it was that lack of judgemental undertones that also made sure it got snubbed. Too bad. Cause it's better than any other religious movie I can think of.
Da's wat ik hoor: "Wij Engelstein is toch/doch machst", haha. I happened to know some dutch too, i've learned it, but that sounds pretty much like some sorta dialect, which i think might be "yiddish", german dialect of Ashkenazi. In fact, there were a lot of jews in Netherlands back then, so i think that could be it. Perhaps neder-duits-yiddish. :)
The Stones have great songs for "dark" movies: "Time is on My Side" here, in the beginning; "Sympathy for the Devil" at the end of Fallen; "Paint it Black" at the end of The Devil's Advocate and Full Metal Jacket; and who could forget "Jumping Jack Flash" starring Whoopi Goldberg.
Whoever designed those credits really damaged this part of the film, the smoke effects keep making me think it is going to say FOX in the corner or something
That language that Reese is speaking, it appears to be Syrian Aramaic or something of that nature, so there's no way possible that can be Dutch he's speaking. That's just my theory, I'm not sure but if I'm wrong, please let me know.
@mrmapegothe13th Yes, in the movie the translator said know one but nomadic tribes still speak this language, my linguist professor at PSU(portland state university) knows this language, albeit, it is a dying language
@mrmapegothe13th No, at the part where they're watching the tape of the interview before Reese' execution, the part where Reese/Azazel is telling him "a day.. a week.."
Wie wind zaait zal storm oogsten!" Jonesy/John Goodman asks "what's that he's speaking?" and /Denzel tells him it's Dutch. Then John rewinds it to where Reese is touching Hobbes/Denzel's hand and says "what about right there, is that Dutch?" Right there is the Syrian Aramaic ..

Y'know what Azazel (Elias Koteas) said sounds more like
"wie *** zaait, zal *** oogsten"
who *** sows, will *storm?* harvest/reap
something along the lines of: What he sows that he shall reap
translator gave me this: Wat hij zeugen dat hij moet plukken
Peeps that speak Dutch got any bells ringin?
It's NOT Syrian Aramaic, Because Denzel and John discover what he said BEFORE this when he grabs his hand is Aramaic and not Dutch
and it isn't German either.
