  • The church that believes their bread becomes God after its consecration is practicing idolatry and is not the true church founded by Christ.

  • Just to put the record straight---Samuel John Stone (April 25, 1839 - November 19, 1900) was an ordained minister in the Church of England, chiefly remembered for his hymn The Church's One Foundation.

Following his schooling at Charterhouse he went up to Pembroke College, Oxford, gaining a BA in 1862 and being awarded an MA in 1872. He served a curacy in Windsor, Berkshire from 1862, then at St. Paul’s, Haggerston from 1870, where, in 1874 he became the minister.

  • Ok; but we sing it too at our catholic church, but thanks 4 letting me know. I love the song.....

As a Catholic, I like this song too. I am a native Texan, but attended school at Oxford. They are very protective of their "ownership" on religious matters. Lord knows that Christianity itself owes thanks to the Catholic Church from hence they come. :)

  • It is an Anglican hymn. That makes it a Good Catholic Hymn.

  • Actually it is a Samuel Wesley Hymn - this makes it a good Anglican Hymn.

  • am i the only one who thought that "Equestrian" would mean ponies? NEEDS MORE PONY

  • Gosh, you yanks should really pay more attention to how these things should be done......what a garbled mess of nonsense....listen to the English renditions, and learn how less is more!!!!

  • Not honorary titles. Also, membership in the Church supersedes any constitutional restrictions in this regard. The KHS is a religious knighthood that is given by the Sovereign Pontiff as Pope, not as the prince of Vatican City State.

  • Is it not a violation of Article One as well as several state constitutions, for any U.S. citizen employed by the Federal or State governments (as well as legal resident aliens) to accept a title or honor from a foreign government or prince, e.g. the Vatican and/or Roman Pontiff?
