  • i start mine i cleaned it all out watched the vid cleaned it all i start my tractor runs until the gas is burned in the carb nothing clogged i dont think so please get back to me on this

  • He meant to say "..with choke closed". Pistons going down creates a vaccum and atmospheric pressure pushes the fuel into the venturi. He meant to say "5/8th. inch wrench". He said "little intake". He meant to say "main jet". He forgot to check/set float level. In all honesty, that carb was corroded and should be replaced.

  • Must order a pizza now to repair carburetor MMMMMmmhhhh

  • Thanks for the How To Video - helped a bunch !

  • Thanks for the How To Video - helped a bunch !

  • Thanks for this tutorial! It really helped me out

  • ya i figured the rings were bad oh well its an ole machine and still purrs so i aint to worried lol

  • ty for your help after i cleaned and adjusted it runs good now. just has a lil blow by i think the valve seal or sumthing may be bad

  • @trober603 It is common for these motor's to have a little blow by. It's the ring's. they dont last too long. If you do a compression check you will find they won't be equal

  • hey after u have done what u have showed in this vid with the clean process cud u tell me how to tune it up (adjusting the jets)? if so thank you

  • @trober603 The adjustment screw in of the front is for air mixture. Turn it all the way in and then turn it out 1 and 1/2 turn's. While the motor is running make 1/4 turn adjustments to the screw in or out if necessary.

  • allis 4211

  • @colbycous01 what?

  • @siguaw the tractor yer workin on. it looks like a simplicity 4211. (allis-chalmers

  • @colbycous01 Simplicity 6211. I think the ALLIS version is a 4211. Good eye

  • Hello, Great video. I have a 1987 snapper 28" rear engine riding mower that is hard to start. When it does start it studders and then cuts off. I think the carb really needs to be cleaned. Are the steps in this vid pretty much the same fo my mower?

  • thank u.

  • I took the lower bolt out and the jet has no slot for a screwdriver or an allen wrench . How do I get in out of the carb. Thank You for the info.

  • @MrJoeskier Honestly i have never seen one without an allen or screwdriver. just do your best to clean the passage with it in

  • I had to come back and view this video once more before attempting to take the carburator apart on my Craftsman 1000 LT mower. Thanks very much for putting this video up on YouTube.

  • @semco72057 all the comments that tell me it helped was reason enough to put it up

  • Thanks a lot from us here in Denmark.

Knew how to, but its been years. Just looked through this and was confirmed. Went back to the job with new confidence and now the engine runs like new as far as I can tell.

Just to let you know it is appreciated! Thanks a lot.

  • @Ledsmoke always happy to hear it helped

  • mmmm...pizza.

  • I think that I have to check my carburator on my 17.5 Briggs & Stratton motor. The mower will start and run only if gas is poured into the carburator, and will stop once it is burned up. All the filters, and spark plugs was replaced in advance, and my neighbor took the carburator apart and cleaned it and got the engine to run for him. I waited for about two months until spring before trying to start it again. That is when I noticed the problem all over again. I loved the video very much.

  • @semco72057 gas will go bad quickly and these motors wont run off it. drain all the old gas and see if there is a drain on the carb itself aswell. Also does this have a vaccuum fuel pump? check that out aswell

  • @siguaw good vid

  • @semco72057 replace gas and gas lines find out if it it vacum fuel pump and re clean carb and change oil

  • @yllibotiv Unfortunatly my camera is broken and that is something you would have to see. I will go pull one apart a little later and see if i can describe it to you as best as possible

  • great info!

  • I had thought of doing that, but my float is all plastic.

  • @spyderjockey I would say you needle is just too short or you have the wrong needle and seat. i opt for the needles with the rubber tip. it will wear out faster but it will create a much better seal. the only other time i have had this happen when all carb parts where correct was when an after market gas tank was installed and it was a very large capacity tank and the head pressure was just too much for the float. hope this helps.

  • I have a Snapper mower with a 3.5 B/S motor. It will start and run until it runs the gas out of the bowl. There is no obstruction to stop gas flow. I have cleaned the carb and eventually replaced the needle valve and seat, but still only runs for a short while and then quits and now it overfills the bowl and leaks out. Can you tell me what could be wrong?

  • @spyderjockey your needle/float are not adjusted properly. adjust it by bending up the little tang your needle clips to. With the bowl off hold the float to a level position, if the needle in not fully in the seat bend the tang up. this may take a few tries. it is better to have the needle close too soon rather than too late. Keep me updated on your progress please

  • @siguaw

I thought of that but it is a plastic float.

  • oyu people are not very bright.

you should be showing how to remove the carb from the mower not just the carb sitting on a pizza box.

ever think people dont know how to remove it??

    geez

  • @JadeTomZ Its two bolt's dude. Who's not very bright??

  • @JadeTomZ If someone needs to be shown how to remove it, they have absolutely no business attempting to rebuild it. Go bother the guys that are blueprinting main bearings with plastiguage that never show how to open the hood man, we're trying to learn about lawnmowers here : )))

  • Thanks

  • Hi there, i have a 5hp briggs engine from a go-kart and basically it got tipped and all the oil got trapped in the air filter and everything. So was just wondering how do i clean it properly? You can see my vid on youtube to see whats goin on. Thanks

  • Thank you! I had my new tractor running in about 10 minutes because I felt confident enough to do it thanks to your vid. It was a filthy needle valve/seat!

  • You are DA-Man!!

Removed carb & cleaned...started first pull. Thanks, Dave

  • @morewind11 no problem, glad to help and love to see do-it-yourselfers.

  • I have a Toro walk behind mower with a Briggs (3 yrs old). First time I started it this season the air filter was saturated with fuel. It ran without the filter. Is this a breather problem? Thanks, Dave

  • @morewind11 stuck float. old gas from last season clogged carb. made the float stick open and flood up to the air cleaner. take carb apart and clean it with air compressor or carb clean... hope this helps

  • iv got a problem with my 11hp briggs and stratton i will drive it for a little bit then it will rev up and down then just die

  • @brent3360 need a bit more info than that

  • i bought a go kart 8 hp briggs and and i put fresh gas in it and i went to try to start

it pull start and it was leaking gas out of the carb i took the intake off and i can see

the gas coming out of the carb right by the

    air filter please respond

  • stuck float, take off the bowl one screw/bolt on the bottome. the float moves up and with gas level but if it is stuck it wont close, or check to make sure there is nothing between the needle and the seat, the needle is next to the pin style hing the float pivits on. when the gas level rises it pushes the float up and in turn the needle closes the fuel supply

  • Like you said, that little ?@#% was jammed...now everything is fine, where do I send the money :)

    Thanks a million

  • thanks dude. this hopefully will help. and you eat alot of junk food! dominos and wendys on the same bench!

  • good job man i got a free Simplicity mower it would only run with choke i could not get the anti fire solenoid off so i took apart and clean what i could when puting the carb back on the engine the anti fire solenoid connector broke off so it took me a hour soldering a lead wire out but for a fast fix but i dont want to pay $80 for a new soeinoid what can i do to have the carb runing with out it and any tip on how to get the soeinoid off ?

  • Well done, best instruction I've seen.

I do have a question: With winter out of the way other than running all the gas out of my snow blower, is there anything else I should do to the engine to preserve it through the summer?

  • two stroke or four?

  • the only problem is the female eire lead that comes out of it is broke off and a new one is 30 bucks. so i was thinking abot taking it out and just replacing it with a regular bolt, and then just using an in line fuel shutoff. the top of the fuel shut off is also wore down quite far so it already didnt shut the fuel off and that caused me to have problems with gas getting in the block

  • hey hey hey another question to rattle your brain. on my 14.5 hp briggs there is an electronic type fuel pump or some sorta thing that goes on the bottom of my walbro carb was told it tell the carb when it needs fuel. and recently the wire connector broke off the bottom. is there anyway to bypass this or will i need to replace it with a new one?

  • thats a fuel shut off. its hooked up to your safty switches and your ignition. It cuts the fuel supply if a switch is tripped or the ignition is off. All you have to do is supply 12v to it and it will open up. Those are a pain.

  • thanks again.

  • no problem, questions are welcome anytime

  • another question for you to ponder, maybe have an answer for me. what do you know about the 14.5 hp Briggs I/C? just bought another mower this one has the 14.5 hp Briggs runs fairly well. but stutters a little during idle. do you have any ideas on the best way to adjust the carb on this engine?

  • 14.5 hp briggs I/C "industrial/commercial" Is one of the most common engines on outdoor power equipment. They are a proven powerfull engine. They have a very simple design that produces a good amount of power. As for the idle it could be a few different things. all pretty easy. One you main pickup tube also known as a main jet or ventury may be slightly obstructed. Or you air/ fuel mixture may be off. Some have one screw on the bottom of the bowl and some have another on the top.

  • If you have 2 screws then the top is air adjustment and the bottom is fuel. close them both all the way and bring them out 1 & 1/2 turns. starting with the lower one make 1/4 turn adjustments. This is a general tuneing procedure for ALL small engines. then do the top. If you only have a lower screw just do that one. If this doesnt work then you may have other issues to adress.

  • is it normal for the motor ( 18 horse opposed) for it to stutter a bit when you throw the idle up really quickly? stutters for a second and then recovers the rpms desired but seems to act almost like a dead spot. or like it takes in fuel quicker then the engine can handle. also when you drop the engine rpms really quickly it has a hard time catching the idle speed

  • the carbs on those are not the best. thats just the governor trying reacting to the sudden rpm change. If it doesnt bog down when there is a load on the motor i wouldnt worry about it. you will never get rid of that totally but if you want to reduce it try to adjust it. Read previous post on how to do that. Simple cleaning of the maginito coil and spark plugs will help too. You may have one plug fireing better than the other aswell

  • you should make a video on how to adjust the valves on an 18horse opposed briggs. heard that the slow turnover has a lot to do with the valves and not with the starter or battery. some people seem to think that that may be the problem if you have any more input let me know i am a very interested in small engines and hopefully someday soon would like to make the mower into a puller

  • Are you talking about the normal flathead? those valves are not adjustable. only the OHV models are adjustable.

These twins always tend to turn a little slow. If they turn too fast then you may have crappy compression.

  • thanks turns out the little breather hole next to the choke plate was being covered a little bye a small piece of the gasket

  • glad to hear its going :)

  • awesome video it helped me out but i am still having a run problem

  • try adjusting the air/fuel mixture. turn the screw all the way in and then out one and a half turns. Start it then make 1/4 turn adjustments. If you cant get it to purr right then check out your spark plugs
