  • Sure wish he had toured more in the States....

  • Great song I loved as a kid with NO clue what it meant...just loved the mellow vibe, melody, & vocal. BUT as a 30-something big kid, I 'get' the lyrics and dig it on another level. ESPECIALLY feeling this live version: sorta dark, slow, a tad more poignant but still ultra-cool, smooth, & always mellow! Add me to those posting 'thanks for posting!'

  • benny, what happened to you? you authored so many good songs in your time, none in recent years. is there any new good pop music at all? it's hard to name any. Reva Beerhouse? The Croutons? Those have had a few decent songs but that's about it.

  • Emotion 98.3

  • This song makes me cry because it has always helped me when my heart was breaking. It's comforting to have someone tell you that you'll get over it and be okay. Great version, and cheers, Chris.

  • I remember when this record hit big, real BIG! This song had more airplay than just about any other song on the radio at the time and deservedly so. A classic...

  • greatest song ever, greatest singer ever. Wayne my love, fool if you think it's over it's just begun... I will see you soon in Heaven for all eternity.

  • Such a deep sexy voice, such talent. Love his music. Very seductive. Thanks Sarah

  • @sarahsrose2002 Oh, and he could sing to me anytime!

  • @sarahsrose2002 he does have talent, not many people can sing like Bruce Springsteen and get away with it. He sounds more like Bruce than Bruce does.

  • great song whenever it is sung by chris rea

  • ...good live version of a great song...great voice..interesting artist.

  • What a talent is Chris Rea.

  • I've always loved this song and this man's amazing voice.

  • soooo relaxt!

  • I like the original studio version so much more...song loses it's magic in my opinion, just sounds depressing...but get my Prozac out....byebye

  • Loving this live performance. The lower key and slower tempo give the lyrics more power and poignancy. Personally, I like the "imperfections' of live performances vs the sterile purity of recordings. His voice is fine here.

  • Hate to disagree Pace, but there was nothing "sterile" about the recorded (45) version of this song. It was gritty, deep and tragically real!

  • @doughnazi Sterile in comparison to the live version was what I meant. I prefer live performances because they are more organic, real to me. For sure the recorded version is a gem. No disagreement there.

  • Yeah Pace, I must say this live version (Never heard this one before) was unique and still carried the same depth for me.

Cheers mate. Glad you have a great taste in music. What a golden era that was!

  • @doughnazi Thanks, and yes it was a golden era. One of the reasons I'm sick of radio today is the lack of good songs, half way intelligent, thoughtful lyrics, and good singing. These days everyone is auto tuned to death. The biggest, hottest stars can barely hum a simple melody. It's sad.

  • I also like the hit version by Elkie Brooks.

  • Brilliant! Loved it :)

  • really lowered the key from the lip synched version of studio recording found here on youtube [with him at piano] probably during the year of its release.

  • Brilliant stuff...

  • Priceless! Thank you.

  • brilliant

  • This man is so under appreciated. He is such a gem and just terrific.

  • brilliant saw him concert many years ago

  • I need to thank him. He was there when I was falling apart. I wore this 45 out!

  • Outstanding! Thank you.

  • Thank you

    very nice

  • Best version ever. Love it. thank you.

  • Very very nice - what's the different lyric right at the end, though?

  • Many artists like to change or add something when they are playing live.

  • Sorry, didn't mean to imply I didn't like this version! What I meant was, what are the words he actually sings at the end there in this live version? I haven't been able to find them listed in any of the song lyric databases for 'Fool'...

  • Listening through it a few times, I think it's:

"(They / it?) may not come / But anyone who had to (play / pray?) / They'd find you and say / Fool, yeah / Fool, yeah yeah"

  • Maybe it is: It may not come / But anyone / Who had to pay / Would laugh at you and say / Fool etc.

  • (Fool if you think it's over)

I'll buy your first good wine

We'll have a real good time

Save your crying for the day

That may not come but anyone

Who had to pay would laugh at you and say

Fool if you think it's over

    'Cos you said goodbye

Fool if you think it's over

    I'll tell you why

  • Yes many do but often because they find it difficult or sometimes impossible to duplicate/recreate the vocal without the comfort of a studio/nusicians/ tech and the luxury of 20 or thirty small takes spliced into one. Often, country artists are notable exceptions

  • Beautiful live version. For the life of me, I never understood why Chris didn't release at least one live from the 80's period. I would have bought 2-3 copies : )

  • This version may be better than the original.

  • I love this version.

  • Thank you:) nice song

  • Thank you, this song inspires me.

  • Awesome version, thanks for posting!
