The ZXR belonged to me and was great fun to ride, flatslide carbs sounded awesome although a pain away from the track. It was a Ducati bias test as it was something to do with Foggy being at the Goodwood festival of speed.
I prefer the look of the Ducati but not sure if it was ever worth the 20k price tag, the ZXR was half the price and four years older and a hell of a lot rarer, always look at this video and think why the hell did'nt he give the zxr a bloody good thrashing, gave up near the end
some of you guys aint got a clue. Ive had 4 dukes various gsxrs an R1. yes there are faster bikes out there. yes some are cheeper to maintain. But they aint that expensive to run. Belts you can be done for £100 every two years, (expensive i dont think so) Oil and filter the same price. I never had a single problem with three of them but the fisrt the regulator went, Jee whiz.
i agree, these comments are stupid, i own a ducati, it has only cost me like 40 bucks more an oil change then my R6. i dont think im better then anyone else because i ride a ducati, i loved my R6, it just didnt have enough low end grunt for street riding, so i wanted a more powerful bike that i didnt have to wait till 12,000 rpm to get power from. and i love the sound of a v twin. i love rc-51's as well, there are ppl who like v twins and ppl who like 4 bangers, i think they both sound great.
@bigcheesecrx Man i can t agrea more..! i guess i have a paixon for all tips off motorcycles=).. The brutal and torque sound off vtwins and the sprint rotation off 4 cylinders 2 sounds that i allways dream=)
I own a '99 ZX7R and a '04 Ducati SS 1000. For my experience is more expensive to own the jappo! Nothing special purpose, runabouts, long journey and trackdays. On jappo maintenance is at 6000, on Ducati at 10000. On Ninja i changed clutch, brake (problem with pistons=disc gone) and leaks oil. Ducati's main problem is that the clutch is noisy..
i think the dukes have an undeservedly bad reputation, they cost alot to own because most people dont look after them and pay ducati dealerships extortionate amounts to do simple fixes.
Bikes arent complicated machines, fix it yourself and you only have to pay for parts, dont trust yourself? get a mate who knows what hes doing to show you, service the bike regularly, let it warm up, ride it often because it will break if it lives in the shed and itll outlast your mates gsxr.
@sargares18 also a jap i4 might be faster, but a duke is about the feel good factor, you might say its posing, but why own a bike with far more power than you can use on the road when you can own a bike with enough power that will make you grin everywhere you go AND make everyone that see's it grin aswell?
@Scittula the fastest? dont know about that. ive torn up quite a few of them on my 92 ZX7R race homologation bike. I love the sound but id have to agree that the maintenance costs and overpriced parts always drive me back to my ninja. i mean, 1K for a fuel pump/fuel pressure regulator thats gone out to a bad duc design where the wires chaff and get broken, thats bs.
@nutsack1888 I happen to own a 1000rr and I have to say that it is not only insanely fast, but it corners as good or better than anything out there. To quote you "a blade....chuckle" if you knew anything about bikes you would realize how stupid you sound saying that. The blades have won bike of the year several times so I really don't know what is so funny about blades. Going by your comment you are a Duc fanboy, and the funny part is that I am willing to bet that you don't even own a bike.
@adrenalineboyzryan shut up. i dont need to prove fuck all to you. i own several bikes including a pro stock and ive posted plenty of vids. your the one thats banging on about bike of the year.. so your the magazine reader. try posting your opinion minus the personal attacks. Go do wheelies up a long straight american boy, leave the cornering to us europeans.
@nutsack1888 LOL Yeah I read the magazines, HOWEVER I own it so my opinion is on seat time, not someone elses opinion. Oh and as far as cornering, well I do track days all summer long and can drag a knee with ease so if you think the hondas can't corner well then you obviously dont know what you are doing. Nobody said you had to prove anything but if you go bashing hondas for no reason well then someone will call you out on the bullshit statement.
@adrenalineboyzryan 1000rr is insanely fast??? maybe in your head it is. fast maybe. my opinion; hondas handle up to a point then feel wooden.. all hondas are the same and ive ridden every 900/1000 since the urban tiger. i like them but i think they dont suit a rider that uses his steering. they always feel like they wanna run wide. my mate has a 09 1000 with a rear thumb brake and recons it cures the turn in. ive tried it but im not familiar with thumb brake so i cant comment.
@nutsack1888 Oh and thumb brakes are for wheelies. When you do a highchair wheelie you cant cover the rear brake, so you mount a hand brake for the rear.
@adrenalineboyzryan Maybe in america thumb brakes were made for wheelies, but over here its for riders that like more control when backing it in to the corners. They've used it in moto gp for ages and moto gp bikes arent made to wheelie about. Point is that Hondas dont have quick steering, so i suppose if it suits you then fine.. good bike
@nutsack1888 Hondas don't have quick steering? I swear you have never ridden a bike. My 1000rr is as light as some of the older 600's. I flick it side to side with ease, and around a track it can keep up with anything out there, so I guess it must be the rider. Oh and yes you are right about the thumb brakes, I thought you meant an extra hand brake for wheelies. I don't know why you are so down on Hondas though as I have smoked most any other bike I have raced with it.
@ilya2222 Mine is a 2006. I like it, but would rather have the new one as it is lighter and also has more power. My ideal bike however is the new BMW. I am still debating on springing for it lol.
@ duanedragon...sounds like youve never owned one. Ive had several dukes, but im far from rich. Although they are a little more to service (not by much), every one ive had has been totally reliable.
I think a lot of people here are missing an obvious point: Ducati's are not expensive to BUY, they are expensive to OWN. The Kawasaki starts every time you turn the key and it's greatest expense is gas and tires. Maintenance on the Duc will eat you out of house and home. Don't fool yourself thinking you can do it yourself- you screw up one cam belt learning you will destroy the entire motor. People who ride Duc's live in big houses. People who fix Duc's live in bigger houses.
@duanedragon2 i can tear a ducati to pieces and build it up quicker than i can a new R6. its only slightly more expensive so whats yer point? on youtube givin it THE BIG UNN... why dont you ask a dealer because its them that set the prices for who comes through the door. belts are easy on every ducati. takes me 10mins.
@duanedragon2 Um, I earn no more than £19k per year, own a stunning Ducati 748 (second one might I add), manage to pay for it fine. It's the care, people treat it like a jap, as in, start it up, revs the nuts out of it. You have to wine and dine the girls... That is the killer in wallets. People not taking care of Ducati's. The old Duc's specially.
this is utter bollox for several reasons...Ducati superbikes ARE expensive to buy,, compare list prices to Jap bikes...the Desmosedici is £40,000. Maintenance on a Ducati is more expensive because its intervals are based on time before mileage ie..do 40miles in a year, it'll still need servicing, but they are not ferrari money. i own one and am not a millionare and neither is my local mechanic.these comments r made out of ignorance or jealousy by ppl that have never ridden one.
@duanedragon2 Are you serious, doing the belts etc isn't like they make out they are but you must know what your doing with engines. There are lots of guides how to do them on the internet. Its not as hard as its made out to be But if you disagree with my statement then leave well alone. I've owned 3 Ducati's a 600, 900 and now an 1198s. We have allways done our own work on the old machines. My 1198 is under warenty. The 1198s is amazing machine, its awsome to ride properly.
yeh the bike to get is the m , but its brother the L is just as good both are well capable bikes and are quicker than the zx7 that replaced them, never could work out why the zx7rr had the same power as a standard zx7
This was my ZXR750R featured in MCN,sold the bike to a collector, i am told it will be taken to the TT in 2008.Mega performance, would give bikes today a run for their money. Now restoring a Yamaha FZR400RRSP one of only 100 bikes produced. After a lot of research there are only 50 ZXR750R Kawasaki's left on the road from a production run of 1100, so if you see one for sale buy it!
Theres 2 for sale within 3 miles of my house one the same as the one in the vid and one with custom blue paint wich i plan on buying in the next few weeks
Scott Russel's zxr was a zxr 750 M (the rr version of the L) shown here is the J. It was WSB champion back in 1993 with scott riding it. in the same year it also won the 8 hours of suzuka again with scott
