NO doubt, Holy Ghost by the Bar Kays is one of the funkiest songs ever made and even though it's already been said before it bears repeating... the breakdown before the drums and bass is the funkiest thing I've heard. I was in Memphis when this came out and got several chances to see them perform it live. Talk about smokin'! All I can say is Lord Have Mercy! HOLY....
during da breakdown after da wellll right nb4 da drums and bass make u lose your koolness and u juss b gettin reel fffffffffffffunkay on da flo me and da girl make dat eye contac...... da draws come off soooo easily after dAT! THANX bar-kays
this is that kinda funk that causes you to make those really ugly faces as you groove. Makes you look like you smelled a rotten egg mixed in with some Magic Shaving cream...If you know about Magic Shave, you know that's funky
We grew up in the "projects" in N.C. and when this song came out, we use to beat on the dumpsters/ trash cans to match this funky beat!!!!! Wow!!! Those were the days!!!!!
LOL..i can remember being little me and my brother would be upstairs hearing this song rockin from the basement from a party my folks threw...I can remember the bass just rattling the whole house , such good music love it
I remember my moms use to play this cut, I had to have been about 4 or 5 yrs. old. her and her friends be playing spades and pinocle while this was blasting on her reel to reel... Yeah, that's old
Also, lunupe83, I'm from Baltimore, but I deliver food to that Harris Teeter supermarket on Kalorama
This song use to crank D.C. up! but it also got me slapped by my christian mother for blasphemy when I use to take her to work and she heard me jamming it. lol
LMAO! I'm from the D.C. area and we used to go to Crystal Skate. Anytime Holy Ghost was being played, my mom would make me stop skating. Now that I'm grown I play Holy Ghost, Darling Nikki and all those songs I wasn't allowed to listen as much as I can.
These guys put the heat on George Clinton, the master of funk. You would be hard press to find a funkier song, I think it's top 3. Got to give it up by Marvin Gay, One Nation under a groove, Holy Ghost, in any order!!
