so i'm 16. I have been told i was an excellent driver. I drive on the free way almost daily. BUT tomorrow i've been asked to take my girlfriend and her sister to the train in Bham. I'm from hartselle, AL. South of Decatur north of Huntsville. I've driven on the free way there to Gulf Shores but how bad is it in Bham
wow welcome to alabama where drivers drive like their possessed lol i been in alabama most of my life and this hwy is very common to me however i aint been to birmingham in a long time i been staying down near mobile but not shocking to see how folks are driving just watch out for cops in alabama you sneeze wrong and they will try to arrest or ticket you no joke
@Freewayjim i will take your word on that i no longer travel very far anymore due to a bad back and being in a car for a long time is not easy heck you wanna see something you should see how the cops drive lawd have mercy i seen some doing 100 mph here in alabama for no good reason yet when i go 5 mph over i get a ticket welcome to alabama folks lol
I love your videos!! I do wish that you would consider making a video of the drive into Huntsville Alabama. Driving 565 to the Downtown Interchange, Memorial Parkway, and Research Park BLVD. Will you consider it?? Pretty Please...lol =)
Yea that interchange in downtown Bham makes no sense. One lane merging on boths sides, and one dumps into the fast lane going north. The 280/31 exchange is just as bad.
Another interesting video on Birmingham freeways. You always seem to have an impeccable taste in music, too.
BTW, you should consider taking a trip to Nashville, TN at some point to film the freeways there. I pass through there every time I travel to Atlanta, and it's funny how me and my family always seem to get stuck in rush hour every time we travel through there(only negative I have about Nashville freeways).
I have a big road trip planned for the middle of June, I might get 30 of 40 videos out of it if I'm lucky. I'm not disclosing where but it's all east of the Mississippi River.

@blazerlover25 If you think Alabama drivers are bad, go to the northeast corridor sometime (Richmond, VA to Boston) they are unbelievable!

That awful interchange is commonly refered to as malfunction junction.

Thanks!
I just don't have any reason to go to Huntsville, it's not along the way to any place I'd go. Maybe someday, you never know.

@Freewayjim I was born in Huntsville, Alabama

The people on I-565 going into Huntsville drive like fucking morons. If you do go into Huntsville I would consider an other route.

This is very familiar. I live in Huntsville. They have been constructing there for years now.

You are so right! Not fun to drive at all! I love the song you chose for this video-very appropriate.

Now that I think about it, has I-22 been built all the way to connect with I-65 yet? Or is the last part still under construction?
That interchange will probably be an interesting one to see, whenever it's complete.

The I-65/I-20 interchange is a pretty unorthodox design. I can't remember a similar design elsewhere...

I-95 at I-695 North of Baltimore is a similar interchange but is currently being changed to a 4-level stack. Check them out on Google Earth.

I used to drive that all the time and I have never had traffic that good. I wish I could do that commute in warp speed.

Another awesome video! I have one of my drive to work on the same stretch of 65

That is construction in preparation for I-22, which will intersect I-65 just north of where the construction ends.
codyg1985 3 years ago
I figured as much, have you seen any drawings or diagrams for it?
Freewayjim 3 years ago
Very impressive edit. Pretty cool how you timed the video to the music, I have yet to drive I-65

Nice video, Jim. I've seen the portion of Future I-22 (US-78) in Jasper (?). That portion is pretty nice, from Jasper (?) to Memphis.
