  • I am an arsenal season ticket holder - Unbelievably my dad and I almost got into a fight after an arsenal season ticket holder who sits directly behind us commented at 2-0 down that the spurs fans can stick their Jewish flag up their arses - needlessly to say we took offence.. and although this wanker apologised it was one of those moments in time that you feel disgusted to surrounded by such ignorance

  • Unintentionally funny.

  • PEOPLE!!

black people call fellow black people the N word the whole time. however anyone who isnt black does NOT go round called other black people the N word, as this is offensive and illegal

likewise spurs fans chant to themselves for their own fun: Yido. IT IS THE SAME PRINCIPAL

u do not go round calling spurs fans and jews yids

  • if some players behave like pigs on the pitch, how do you expect the dumb fans to behave??? it's sad to see how racial abuse is becoming quite common in British football and some club managers are condoning it. football as a sport must be used to bring people together rather than spreading hate... anyway racial hatred has always been around and will always be around but if we can fight this monster and respect each other as human beings, life would be a lot more beautiful. lets use the L word

  • "Yid" is as offensive as the N word??? Are you for real?

MrBaddiel, MrLineker etc the chant (which you widely publicise) is offensive because it mocks Jewish people murdered at Auschwitz, not because it uses the word Yid.

A Spurs fanatic told me Yid is "a badge and name of honor".

Yid.com is a dating site Jewish people use. Can you imagine a dating site called "N-word.com"??? Not the same thing, really, is it?

Kick out hatred, yes. Kick out racism, yes. But this "campaign" is naive & misguided.

  • In the hundreds of matches i've been to, the only people i have ever heard say the word Yid, or mention anything Jewish are spurs fans. It's EXTREMELY rare for there to be any antisemitic abuse at a football match.

  • This has been a success hasn't it?

It's not offensive at all. Focus on those making Nazi comments and not those taking the sting out of the insult. I have plenty of Jewish friends who support Spurs and sing or say ''yido'' or ''yid army''.

  • the fact that non-jew spurs fans use this word in reference to themselves discredits the whole video. the talk about gas camps is some unprecedented abuse but thats almost an entirely different matter considering the context the word is normally used in football

  • So this is where Gibbs has been??!!

  • So many ignorance in the world, ohhh God!!

  • if Spurs use the word - even as a badge of pride - that makes it acceptable for other sides to use it, often as an insult. the word isn't acceptable in any sense. there's a lack of understanding over what it means and how threatening it can sound. why do we insist on using it?

have a read about what happened around Ajax and their links to the Jewish community. that started out as a laugh and as a badge of pride... didn't end that way.

  • wats the p word

  • @rozzerjnr77 POTATO!!!

  • @rozzerjnr77 "Paki"

  • @rozzerjnr77 The P word is viewed as racist by some and as a friendly, harmless moniker by others. It's all down to the context in which it is used, for example "morning, Paddy" or "allright, Paddy?" are usually quite acceptable, whereas "you dirty Paddy so-and-so" is clearly unacceptable & racist towards the Irish.

  • The most common pejorative for Jews is...get this...Jew! Or Jude in other languages. Any use of the J word makes you an anti-semite by the logic in this video. Shortening words does not make them suddenly offensive, people using words in an offensive context is what makes them offensive.

  • YID ARMY!!!YID ARMY!!!YID ARMY!!!

  • Spurs fans took the name "yid-army" in the 70's as a way to blunt the anti-semitic chants that they received due to the area's high jewish population. Chants at the team and fans included: hissing to imitate gas chambers, jabs about pork, chants that involved auschwitz, etc... To deal with it, spurs fans took up the banner with pride. They proudly chanted yid-army and began using yid and yiddo to describe eachother. The supporters' use of the word shouldn't be condemned, it should be applauded.

  • How can it be offensive when they call it themselves? Yiddo isn't offensive to them, but refering to Hitler is.

  • ...A word beginning with P? I don't even know what that would be...Prick? Puff? Ponce? What?

  • @smile221 Paki.

  • @kakashiuchiha33 Couldn't they find a genuinely pakistani sportsperson for this? He's whiter than I am, and I'm Welsh!

  • Well, I guess it could be solved with a handshake! Has my comment caused offence? Please see Mr.Sepp Blatter to launch a complaint.

  • I get mad when people call me the W word, I'm white and proud of it, where the fuck is my video

  • Authority trying to tell people how they should think. Absolutely pathetic. The word "yid" can be used innocently or it can be used maliciously. Then again, those so inclined can make the most hateful comments about Jews without using yid, kike or any word like it. The correct approach, treating people like adults, would punish incidents like those in the video, and leave the language alone.

  • @matei2005 That's like saying it's ok to call someone a nigger as long as you don't mean it.

  • @MCLambfat clearly it isn't. Clearly you haven't grasped the issue, or my point.

  • Where does a black yid sit? At the back of the oven!

  • @sohc287 where does your dad's cock sit? up ur ass.

  • is it against the law to call MYSELF a Yiddo??

btw no one in Europe called Jews "Yids" except in Britain perhaps. People all across the Europe used their own language to call Jews names. what makes you think all Europe used English?

  • @TomWHL

What do you mean? It's an English film, so obviously he's referring to the word that was used for Jews in England.

I think it's irresponsible at utterly stupid to use the Y word, especially in a racist manner. I hope you lot know that the persons who are behind this video are Jewish Chelsea fans, which says quite a lot. I'm a Chelsea fan myself.

  • @ToniKallioInMyHeart you made me watch this again :-(

"back in the 30s and 40s jewish people all over europe were being rounded up and killed. people called them yids"

are you saying he´s reffering to england?

the word "yid" wasn´t being used by nazis. yude - that´s how it´s pronounced in german and also slavic languages have totally differently pronounciation. Therefore there is no 2WW connotation if you chant yids yids. it can be a neo-nazi english thing if certain people mean it that way.

  • @TomWHL

For God's sake... People in England called them yids, obviously not in Germany. It's btw spelled "Juden" in German.

A stupid word to use anyway.

  • Initially, this chant was used against Spurs fans and it was hurled as abuse. Spurs fans actually took the hatred out of this by referring themselves to the Yid Army or Yiddos. Although it is still an offensive word I don't believe that any of us Spurs fans use the Y word as abuse. I was at the Wigan game yesterday (24/09/2011) and there were sections of the crowd making hitler signs toward the Spurs fans.... that to me is more offensive that the Spurs fans chanting "yid Army" COYS

  • @rogersdanny so true mate, we had everton fans singing "one adolf hitler" we've got a huge jewish following and them fans im sure chant it, but when other fans like everton fans chant "one adolf hitler" then that's racism especially when them everton fans must of had some jewish fans with them. i wonder what they thought

  • jew is a race and im telling you that as a jew! a man that was born to a jew mother then he also a jew even if he dont follow the religion...

  • @yakov4545 and that is just plain stupid.

  • Yids 4ever! COYS!

  • Yid Army!

  • P word? Pussy?

  • @DumbassAdult No, Paki.

  • @tommyddoolin And that is OMFG offensive? I always thought its just a short form. Well well.

  • @DumbassAdult So did I like calling a Scottish person a Scot, but apparently it's racist now for some reason.

  • @tommyddoolin LOLWUT? So how r u supposed to call em now?

  • этот мир убьет политкорректность

  • I am jew and Tottenham fans can call me yidd!

  • Question: Are they calling non-jews "Yids" too?

  • Why are people thumbing the top comments up. It is never appropriate to call someone a 'Yid'

  • WTF. The N-word. The P-word. The Y-word. Is this how we'll speak in the future. I went to the B-word to have a P-word but decided to have a S-word, T-word I-word W-word M-word H-word A-word went O-word for a pint. Fuck the racists and all but stop speaking like retards. Sorry, R-word.

  • @MUFC127 Oh shut up, what else are they supposed to say??

  • must say i'm disappointed at the appearance of Ledley & Gary Lineker in this vid.....

they really ought to know better...

  • @MCLambfat

Coz those two in particular should know that the word "yid" has a different context when being used by Spurs fans.....seeing as Ledley's our captain & Gary played with us for 3 years...

  • @supahdupahguy81 It's still a derogatory term for Jews regardless of the context it's said in. And what about the chants about Auschwitz? You can hardly say that is about football.

  • YIIIID AAARRMMYY

  • @schmatever Your 'reply' (if you could call it that) was pretty fucking lame. Are you some sort of yid?

  • mfcwoody2k10x is poor and gets bullied at school by pakis

  • Comment removed

  • Supadupaguy81, the fact that you have decided to call yourselves "Yids" may not be offensive to you, but is to other people. Have some thought for others rather than defending what is a racist insult just because you think that it's ironic. It's not just about what you want to be called, but how others will be affected by it. I know you see this as meddling, but Holocaust survivors or their relations will be offended, and rightly so, by this peurile name calling.

  • @TheSteveBrain

Holocaust survivors might be offended, true........but supporters of Tottenham Hotspur are not.....i accept it isn't just about what we want to be called, but it's also not just about them either...

many different words meanings & intent's are contextual....when rival fans call us yids, or we call ourselves it, it's referring to Spurs fans, not actual holocaust survivors.....so therefore the words intent in that particular scenario should be understood within it's context.

  • LUFCwoody14 got tossed of by a jew

  • mfcwoody2k10x is a yid himself

  • Lol at the second one the smelly paki

  • we call ourselves yids you idiots...

we're reclaiming the word & giving it a positive meaning, like what the African-Americans did with the N-word...

Leave football culture alone you PC fucks.....first we can't throw about the odd homophobic jibe just in case of the rare event that a gay happens to be at a football match & gets offended, & now they're criminalizing a word we actualy LIKE CALLING OURSELVES...

These ppl are woefully out of touch...

  • Comment removed

  • paki ?

  • What's the P word?

  • as a spurs fan i dont see any problem with it, yea there are some fans of other clubs chant it at us in a racist way like in video, they should target them not us!!! think of it like rappers usin the 'n' word in there music no1 classes that as racist so how is this different. just depends how u phrase it!!! YID ARMY!!!

  • @yid864life thats not how a holocaust survivor would see it.

  • This is hilarious!

  • Wen Spurs were playing Fulham, they unveiled several Israeli flags in our away end. Not only are they not too bothered, I think some of them embrace their Jewish heritage, however controversial that might make them.

  • Comment removed

  • I swear arsenal started calling us yidos? we call ourselves the yids because our club was founded by yids, and has always been associated with yids, so me for one, so it as a positive term because im staying true to my club roots. YID ARMY.

  • To the comments below: How is chanting about Auschwitz not racist?!

  • yeah. whats the p word?

  • Spurs fans see it as an honour. I agree it's wrong, but you can't stamp out something that some Spurs fans see as positive.

  • whats the p word?

  • @LUFCwoody14 oh yeah..

  • I don't think I've seen anything this horribly misconceived since Baddiel's Syndrome.

Tottenham fans refer to themselves as Yids, some football fans are racist - where's the corellation?

  • this is stupid. tottenham fans should be allowed to call themselves yids, it's the same as cardiff fans calling themselves sheepshaggers or grimsby calling themselves codheads - it works! obviously that chelsea chant is not on but i don't think it happens a lot, anti-gypsy/traveller chants are a lot more prevalent in my experience of watching football, people should focus on that instead.

    'y-word' ha!

  • Could they not find one Jewish sportsperson?

  • Comment removed

  • So, according to a few of the people below, its okay for Spurs fans to say yid, but not anyone else. Dont matter who its used by, it has the same fucking meaning you plums!

  • I'm a Jewish Spurs fan and I'd be offended if fellow, non-Jewish supporters didn't chant this to deflect anti-Semitism

  • the song in the middle about hitler is sung by chelsea fans.. why would spurs fans be racist to themselves?? PS YOUR SHIT LAMPARD

  • Where's Yossi?

  • This smacks of David Baddiel looking for a project to keep his name in the headlines. Yes the Chelsea song is disgusting and wrong, but spurs fans calling themselves yids? Its about context if some says they hate Yids, they usually mean spurs fans, not Jewish people.

What will be next, should I be offended and call Liverpool fans rasist for calling Spurs fans cockney b's?

  • Comment removed

  • @jdk946 So on that argument should the Jewish contigent at Tottenham still be able to use it because they are Jewish? I know for a fact lots of Jews sing Yido when watching Tottenham and do not see it in anyway racist. When a Spurs supporters call themselves Yids it is said with affection to the club and the people around it. There are different ways of saying the same word. Yes when idiots and Cheslea or Westham idiots say it in a derodigory way that is racist, when Spurs fans use it is not

  • This is utter bullshit, just like the judas and adebayor song's being branded "racist" get a fuckin grip!

  • It's not offensive at all. I mean, that song about the holocaust in the video is offensive, and wrong. But, from my experience as a Chelsea fan, having seen us play them many times at the Bridge and the Lane, we have never sung a song like that. All we do is sing "yido, yido". And the Spurs fans call themselves yids too. It's just banter between two sets of fans at the end of the day. People are just overreacting tbh by claiming its "racist". Racist is too storng a word to use in this context

  • 'yid' is yiddish for jew, that's why the language is called yiddish (the jewish language.) but nowadays for some reason even the dictionary defines it as pffencive, but jews call jews yidden all the time, yh i know blacks call blacks 'nigger' and that doesn't make it right, but yid is totally innocent, but those scum hissing should just DIE a slow and painful death

  • 'yid' is yiddish for jew, that's why the language is called yiddish (the jewish language.) but nowadays for some reason even the dictionary defines it as pffencive, but jews call jews yidden all the time, yh i know blacks call blacks 'nigger' and that doesn't make it right, but yid is totally innocent

  • Im a jew and when im at paxton road i chant YID ARMY im proud of it so what u gonna tell me that im a self hating jew YID ARMY COYS!!!!!!!

  • @Spursie09 G-d bless you sugarplum

  • Wot bout the H word (honkie) o sorry you can't be racist towards white people can you, f**king bullshit colored people are more racist to us than we are them!!!!!

  • For many this chant is clearly being used to put down a large number of people and suggest they are in some way inferior. David Baddiel is Jewish and he is clearly offended. People should not think that because the colour of a Jewish persons skin is likely to be white that they are not being racist. I suspect most of those who chant this word would not do so in their place of work for fear of lossing their job.

  • Yid Army isn't racist. It's a badge of honour.

  • WTF ? is this bullshit people ..maybe they will start say we need to ban to say (ABCD) CUZ IT OFFENDS SOME RACE? HOW COME THEY CAN CALL US WHITE TRASH AND NO ONE DOSN'T GIVE A FUCK ,,BUT WE CAN CALL THEM WHAT WE WANT IN OUR OWN LANDS..WHERE IS THIS WORLD GOING TO...DEMOCRACY IS AN ILLUSION OF COMMUNISTS.

  • Yiiiiid ARMY!!!!

You'll not succeed in taking our identity from us!

    COYS!

  • @kalk23 yid is yiddish for jew... if ur not a jew: yid is not ur identity, I'm a choshuve yid!

  • @MordechaiKestecher No its a term for tottenham supporters, no race can lay exclusive claim to a word.

  • @TheBighairyfart erm i think i know... i'm a jew and i can't speak much yiddish but i know that the reason it's called yid-ish is coz its a jewish language... and yid means jew trust me

  • The reason Spurs fans (myself included) call ourselves Yiddos is because it's a defense mechanism against rival fans who'd chant it at us in a malicious manner. We adopted it as our own chant in order to prevent the hatred. Chants like the Auschwitz song or referring to Hitler are completely unacceptable and people who are caught doing this should be severely dealt with. I've personally seen Palace fans hissing to replicate gas chambers and it was unpleasant, but 'Yid Army' is Spurs' best chant.

  • @MrGann88 It isn't your word to use though. It's not right to take a word that has been used to justify the oppression and murder of people and turn it into a word for you to use in your petty football arguments. It's just not appropriate.

  • NIGGER! PAKI! YID!

    I'm awesome a this game

  • @miked20061 you dafkenik!

  • Chelsea all the way

  • tottenham are shit I lm from Israel and I hate tottenham

  • I'm Jewish and support arsenal fuck spurs I'm a arsenal yid and go to every game going in a few hours to the united game cmon arsenal

  • P word ! im a spurs fan ! YIDDDS 4 LIFE !!!!

  • YIDOOOO

  • whats the word with p?

  • @ScrewMyLife1 pakistani or "paki" which is usually used loosely on anyone with this kind of skin tone, shamefully.

  • This campaign of Baddiel's is hollow & irrelevent. Personally I am not jewish but I know jewish Spurs supporting freinds that will chant "Yid-Army" with pride until the kosher cows come home! On the flip side I have been called "big nosed yid c**t" & that was undeniably unpleasant, but nowadays the later is rare.

The key factor at the centre of this debate is 'context' & the manner & tone in which the word is used, & over time surely the the connotation of a word can be changed for good or bad.

  • It's like getting taught a lecture by you're PE teacher lol.

  • @joelspace

I don't think that Tottenham fans or any fans in general need to use a racist word in order to present their identity as fans of the club. If they will stop calling themselves that, rival fans will eventually stop too. I've personally been called that word and I don't know about you but I had hated it. It is utterly pointless to use a racist word for any reason. Fighting any forms of racism is also fighting the racist word it's self.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm a Jewish Spurs fan and find this campaign ridiculous! Political correct society has gone mad! The word Yid has been watered down by Spurs making it a badge of honour and removing its negative historical stigma. It's only when you combine it with antisemitic abuse (used by rival fans) where it becomes a problem. So you want to ban the word Yid? They'll just use another word along with the same torrent of abuse. Push a campaign antisemitism, but not against the word Yid!

  • lol the bradford player- but they don't do that anymore either- sounds stupid

  • y word army

  • Darn it - I suppose this means all the Spurs fans at my local pub could be banned/arrested...{Look at that bloke arrested for singing Kung Fu Fighting 'cos some Chinese complained}...for chanting Yid army when Spurs is on the telly.

This PC nonsense is getting out of hand.

  • This video is ridicolous, its a non issue.

  • Yid army!

  • YID ARMY!

  • 3 of my closest mates are Jewish, I call them Yids, they call me a dirty Arab, camel rapist etc. Where's the problem? Banter will be a punishable offence if this carries on.

  • yiiiidoooooooooooo

  • Spurs have done did the most constructive thing with the word yid, similar to the black community has the Nword. We reinvented it when it was hurled at us as a mark of hate we turned it around.

If the FA or this charity had gotten off their arses in the 80’s when Arsenal and Chelsea fans were using a derogatory chant towards us then we wouldn’t be using it as, yet all of a sudden fucking Baddiel (a Chelsea fan) decides he does want to her it any more so its gone. Well tough fucking luck buddy

  • Super Frank I love you! I'm jewish Chelsea fan and I'm proud to be. We can focus on football, and not hate each other because we're from different religions! I never hated anyone because they were christians or muslims, and there's no reason to hate jewish people either.

  • Comment removed

  • this is gay, you should see want Feyenoord fans shout to ajax fans

  • WILL EVERYONE GET A GRIP, YES THE AUSCHWITZ SONG IS DISGUSTING, BUT THE MAJORITY OF FANS (ARSENAL/CHELSEA-LIST GOES ON) DONT CALL SPURS THE YIDS TO BE RACIST, AS AN ARSENAL FAN I SING SONGS NOT RACIST SONGS ANTI TOTTENHAM SONGS THAT SOMETIMES INCLUDE THE WORD YID OR YIDOS, IVE NEVER CLASSED THOSE SONGS AS RACIST SONGS, BECAUSE THEY ARENT. SPURS WILL ALWAYS BE KNOWN AS THE YIDS WETHER THE OPPOSITION STOP CALLING THEM IT OR NOT

  • That right its all Spurs fault, not Chelsea,Arsenal or anyother club who's supports act ignorant by using hissing sounds or sing racist chants. I mean to blame people for being proud of there communities and taking the negative out of word is insane. I am of Jewish decent and the word yid doesn't bother me. I've been called far worse things for being Hispanic than Jewish. Its your supporters who need to wake up and realize that its not funny using those chants or sounds. Not us! Yiddo Chicago

  • Fuck all of you people that disliked this video. All of you.

  • roman abramovic is jewish l0l

    dumb racist fucks

  • I don't follow your rationale!! No racist, offensive, homophobic or anti semitic chants are acceptable in this day and age whether it be about 'gassing the jews,' anti-black etc etc whether sang by us Gooners, Spurs fans or any other club. As a proud Jewish fan at AFC for over 25 years I find it offensive as do thousands of other fellow Jewish season ticket holders at the Emirates. If you sit behind me and start singing, I will point you out to the nearest steward to get you banned!!

  • @Jules101ful No offence but there is not thousands of other jews that support Arsenal, the fact of the matter is that Arsenal fans have always chanted about yids or made up songs about jews, I personally don't understand why jews support Arsenal

  • @CharlieSpeary gala 2000 is an example , psg in the mid 90#s another one , not been any euro aways since last season though so i dno about this year

kicked off at roma , greece , tu*key and russia though

  • Please play it at WHL as well as Emirates, Chelea, WHU etc. I'm a proud Jewish gooner for 30 years. A memorable moment was being witness to a fellow gooner knocking out a moronic gooner for singing the 'Spurs are on their way to Auschwitz' chant a few years ago outside Highbury. Deserved!! Obviously THFC and their supporters groups need to get their own house in order by educating their own fans (Jew & non-Jew) not to refer to themselves by the Y-word. I will never refer to Spuds as the Yiddos.

  • I am a proud Jewish gooner and will never ever join in any ;'Yiddo' chant or refer to them as the Yids. I witnessed a fellow gooner singing the 'Spurs are on their way to Auschwitz' chant outside Highbury several years ago and he got punched in the face by another Arsenal fan (almost certainly Jewish.) Although I don't condone any such violence, he thoroughly deserved it. In short, the Spurs supporters groups and club itself need to start by banning the Y word from their own stands.

  • @CharlieSpeary you do know why spurs fans started using yid/yiddos in songs? It was to show solidarity with their jewish fans

  • You can tell that the people featured in this video have absolutely no emotion in what there saying

  • they neglect to mention the fact that most of those people chanting "yiddo", are tottenham supporters who call themselves that.

its like telling black people they cant call themselves, or each other "nigga", or any other racial group having a name to distinguish themselves, where if anyone else uses it, being outside that group, it would be racist.

  • i'm from israel and a liverpool fan.

do liverpool fans insult jews too??

  • It's just abit off banter, like mother jokes it's out off date, we live in 2011 who cares. Man up people!!!!!

  • very important that this message comes to the foreftont now!

however, anti-semitism is not racism. Race is based on genetics of skin colour whereas the Jews are a people not drawn together by any genetic trait, and not even by religion.

So yes, kick anti-semitism AND racism from football!

  • @TrollingAccount LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TrollingAccount hahahahah yeh they really should. fucking pakis

  • I'm a German Jewish Arsenal fan who has always respected Tottenham for their identification with the word that was hurled at them (traditionally mostly by Arsenal Supporters when jews were still living further to the east of North London) ALthough there was never anything very craney and political about that, and only served as a nice retort in the typical banter and beating culture around the stadium, it used to be a brilliant tradition, as it's so unique within the chauvinist football culture.

  • However, by now, Tottenham is connected with the jewish heritage only by remnants of historical buildings and a couple of older fans who don't usually visit the games themselves.. and the yiddo-chants. It's become a pretext for starting fights and preserving a violant atmosphere ...it should stop because it has nothing to do with judaism, in fact brings it into disrepute.

  • Gary said the Y word!! Think again gary!! :p

  • this is ridiculous hahahaha. "it is not ok for black people to call eachother the n word", yet they still do, and yes they should be able to! Black people were opressed for hundreds of years, and they can use that word because they were born into that race and don't and couldn't mean it offensively! similarly how gay people can call eachother the f word within reason and it not be offensive. the difference is, you don't choos
