The substantive questions in the CNN/YT debate were no more substantive that what we usually hear in such things, and most of them were less so. There were no great questions in the YT debate, that I've not heard many times before.
And it's not even "the people" that are the issue here, because CNN / YT are filtering the whole thing. "Town Hall" debates are more about facing the people than these things are, where everything is prescreened.

Guess what, moron? They all did end up on a YouTube/CNN debate just a few days ago. On the debates themselves, the majority of the questions were crappy, the reason why this type of format never happens. CNN obviously failed to mention that most, if not all, of the questions were from supporters of either Hilary, Obama, or Edwards. People accuse Fox News of being biased. Well, frankly CNN must be too, but from a liberal standpoint.

If a candidate thinks that they are "above" a creative American citizen, then that superior attitude won't cut it as the leader of America. I believe abortion is wrong, but I am not going to stop a woman from having a clinical abortion because the hanger method isn't so hot. Pregnancy just happens to be a consequence for a woman's chosen action of not protecting herself. It's not just the man's job. Women have more choices when it comes to pregnancy than you give them credit for. You do realize there are birth control pills, shots, and many contraceptives besides condoms? Being pro-life in no way disables women's choices.

All three questions you mention were dumb, IMO. It is at best meaningless to query whether someone is black enough or woman enough, and at worst racist/sexist. And the lesbian couple question was dumb since the President has no authority to "allow" them to be married.
You make a point about people directly affected, I suppose; that may matter to some people, but it makes no difference to me.

The substantive questions in the CNN/YT debate were no more substantive that what we usually hear in such things, and most of them were less so. There were no great questions in the YT debate, that I've not heard many times before.
And it's not even "the people" that are the issue here, because CNN / YT are filtering the whole thing. "Town Hall" debates are more about facing the people than these things are, where everything is prescreened.

As to "duck an entire forum," are you kidding me? The Democrats "ducked" the Fox News debate. People "duck" forums all the time. In fact, BOTH parties duck any debate for the general election that is not run by the two parties (the Commission on Presidential Debates, which was founded and is run by the two former heads of the RNC and DNC).
If the parties are ducking Fox News and the League of Women's Voters, then I don't see any reason to care particularly that they are ducking YouTube.

No, it's not a good thing that this was the highest-rated debate. It's a bad thing that "young people" are too undisciplined and boring to find a real discussion interesting. The YouTube debate was the dumbest I've seen, and I've seen many.
I watch PBS NewsHour every night; I don't get my news from Jon Stewart (though I've seen every episode of The Colbert Report). My standards are high, not just for the candidates, but for the citizenry, and they aren't living up to their end of the deal.

Good work James! The Republicans I am afraid, are plain cowards. The excuse of not wanting to answer a question from a snowman is a very lame one indeed, and just highlights the shallow and feebleminded nature of the Republican candidates, Mr. Romney especially. Has there been a better example of a partisan panderer than Mr. Romney? I am trying to think back, and I believe he would contend with the best in history at that skill.

James, you hit the nails on their heads! If CNN won't go ahead, then YouToube should still go ahead. I'm sure YouTube can find another TV media outlet to take it over. Maybe Showtime would co-sponser a Showtime/YouTube debate.
